Hi everyone, so my bday was two weeks ago and I celebrated it by going to see Taylor at Toronto. Anyway, I went with three other girls who are fans of Taylor as well. These three girls gave me a Taylor Swift vinyl as my gift. When I came back from my trip, I guess I was expecting the rest of the friend group to give me a gift (I know I’m a little entitled but hear me out). So in our friend group there’s about 9 people. All their birthdays are earlier this year and I’m the only one who has a birthday in November. So the way it works is that when it’s someone’s bday, the rest of the group will buy this person a huge gift and everyone chips in except the bday person. Not only that, for some of them, were asked to make food to bring for the parties. I always make a dish and always chip in for these gifts. Usually, for the gifts, we get the bday person a really nice gift that’s about 150-200$. So, I guess I was expecting more for my birthday. The three girls told me that they all chipped in to get me the vinyl and the rest doesn’t have any contribution whatsoever. I feel really hurt as I always put in a lot of effort in the dish alone plus also their gifts. So, am I the asshole if for next year, I don’t chip in or buy the rest of the group who didn’t give me a gift a bday present?
Please be nice! I’m only trying to see if what I’m doing is justified or not. Don’t attack me. The reason for this post is mainly to see if I am in the wrong and if so, I’ll correct my action.

I left an abusive marriage years ago, but it took years to end. If you’ve experienced family court, you know. I lost my career where I made 6 figures, and I somehow lost everything. Like everything, house, etc. I have 3 little kids, sole custody which is for the best, but I’m struggling to get back on my feet financially.
I don’t often find people like me. People like me didn’t go to college, didn’t have a 10+ year professional career, and instead they work service industry jobs. It’s not that I’m above that, but once you do that it can be hard to get back into a professional field. I’ve been freelancing which has been ok but inconsistent.
The problem is that it’s been over a year of being unemployed. I’ve never been unemployed in my life and I never expected that it would last this long. Again, I’m freelancing to get by but it isn’t lucrative.
Not to add on top of it the emotional toll of ptsd, 24/7 mom, no breaks/support system, and no close friends/family. The loneliness is truly unbearable sometimes.
I’m in my late 30s so I’m wondering if my age is working against me. I hear after 40 it’s harder to get a “real” job. No one is going to hire someone with my experience in a junior level role because it would look odd. The higher level jobs are going to people who know someone or are just charismatic extroverts (I guess that equals strong leader).
Anyway, advice welcomed.
