As with “is now”, “has been” (without the ‘now’) also implies nothing of the recentness of the change. Hence, the ‘now’ here specifies when a change took place—‘just now’. In short, “is now” describes the present state, whereas “has now been” describes the present state and implies its recentness. Been in connotes a stay in Florida (which may be short, or very long, or simply passing through). In denotes position, and you are talking about the state or condition of being located in Florida. It doesn't matter whether you took a trip there or not. I can perhaps add that the sentence "I had been at work for eight hours" is very unlikely to be said unless a past time focus has already been established in the discourse. So if it follows something like "Something strange happened to me yesterday" it would be normal, as would "I had been at work for eight hours when ... A number of questions have been asked here. As a non-native speaker of English, I would prefer the former: the subject seems to be "number", therefore the verb ought to be singular, I'd say. However, the latter seems more common, and therefore I believe that my gut feeling is just plain wrong — but I would really like to have a definite answer. He has run that horse every week. He has run that chainsaw for an hour. (nb: He has would be pronounced He's in normal speech) Like most transitive verbs, causatives can usually be passivized. That horse has been run every week. That chainsaw has been run for an hour. By now you see where I'm going. Construction 2 has a type 2 run. Has been broken implies someone broke it, while has broken states that it has passed into a non-working condition, keeping open the possibility of this happening spontaneously. An important distinction in some cases. – However, an alternative is that the action itself has stopped (probably recently), but an effect of the action still continues in the present. For example, suppose the speaker of the fourth sentence has recently turned her/his life around, but the problem is she/he still has to face the consequences of wasting her/his life up until then. "Has been" and "have been" are both in the present perfect tense. "Has been" is used in the third-person singular and "have been" is used for first- and second-person singular and all plural uses. The present perfect tense refers to an action that began at some time in the past and is still in progress. It has been used as the symbol... is correct here. Use Present Perfect when the action referred to started in the past, and either continues (or continues to have relevance ) at the time of speaking. You would typically see it in your e-mail program just after you send an e-mail. Your program might give you this message to let you know that the message you just sent has indeed been sent. 2 refers to something that happened at some time in the past. It could have been an hour ago, a day ago, or even a century ago! But it wasn't just now.

Basically, what the title says. I haven't completely stopped, like, I still apply to a few places in a month, but I've drastically slowed my search. Feels pointless. Applying for almost a year straight now.
I know people that have applied to a single job and get it, and people that are on their 1000th application with nothing. It's like sitting at a slot machine where the win rate is 1 in a million, i'm good.
It feels like we're stranded at sea on a ship where only the stranded know how bad it is, others, are simply living in a bubble far away.

Hi! I’ve been playing social netball for the past 2 months and have also played a bit back in high school. I’m definitely not an expert but I would say I understand most of the rules fairly well. I usually play WA or WD and I’ve just noticed for the past few weeks that a lot of opponents are shoving me with their body or just completely pressing up against me when I don’t even have the ball. My last game I had a girl shove me so many times in a game that I got bruises on the side of my arm the next day. I don’t think it’s classified as contact persay but it’s happened quite a few times lately. I’m just wondering if they’re just playing really well aggressively or if it’s actually not allowed. After a Decade of Waiting, I Finally Own a Kindle—Thanks to Someone’s I just bought a 2nd-hand Kindle Basic 11th Gen for $65 magnetic flip cover included after waiting almost a decade to finally own one. Here's the kicker: the guy I bought it from had picked it up for $120 a year ago but barely used it—an hour tops!
Why? Apparently, he didn’t know you could sideload books or email them to the device was a choice. So, instead of Googling it, he gave up frustation was eminent on his face. His loss, my gain.
The Kindle is pristine—no scratches, no wear—basically brand new. Considering this model hasn’t been available in India for a while (do check my hassle - on my profile), and the upcoming 12th Gen will likely cost more with no major spec changes, I think I’ve snagged the deal of the decade.
PS: To anyone new to Kindle: yes, you can sideload books. Was it not that much known?
What do you think—good buy?

Hallo allomaal,
Ik zou graag wat carriere advies willen. Ik (27M) heb chemische technologie gestudeerd en werk nu ca. 3 jaar in een energie-intensieve industrie als proces technoloog. Ik heb het enorm niet naar mijn zin op mijn werk en ben al een tijd (ca. 1 jaar) op zoek naar ander werk zonder succes. Ik weet niet goed welke andere functies goed bij mijn achtergrond aansluiten buiten proces engineer etc. dus ben maar gaan kijken ook naar data analist / science functies. (Heb programeer-ervaring en in mijn huidige functie cursussen gedaan in data science).
Het geen wat ik niet leuk vind in mijn huidige baan: Solitair werk. Bijna alle projecten doe ik alleen. Ik ben afhankelijk van de projecten die mijn manager mij geeft, maar heb veel periodes dat ik weinig te doen heb. Heb daardoor enorm het gevoel dat ik mijn tijd verdoe in deze functie en elders veel meer kan leren. Zou graag meer willen bezig zijn met energie-transitie / duurzaamheid. Zou ook graag in het buitenland willen werken wat bij het bedrijf waar ik nu werk geen mogelijkheid is.
Wat ik zoek: - Meer teamverband - Werken bij een bedrijf met een missie; verduurzamen van een bepaalde industrie etc. - Meer verantwoordelijkheid. Oftewel een functie zonder de loze momenten. Heb nu het gevoel dat ik onderbenut word en niet mijn volledige potentieel bereik.
Heb al meerdere keren de carrierepagina’s van Vattenfall en RWE etc doorzocht zonder dat ik functies tegenkom die bij mij aansluiten of mij interesseren. Vacatures zoeken is al niet erg leuk maar zo lang op een plek zitten waar ik niet uitgedaagd word en dat naar alternatieven zoeken ook niet lukt is erg frustrerend. Vandaar dat ik mijn situatie maar hier bespreek, wellicht dat er nieuwe inzichten uit komen!

I’m seeking advice, especially from those of you who are psychologists. I’ve been contemplating pursuing psychology as a career, but I have a lot of doubts holding me back.
Right now, I earn six figures, work flexibly, and do so from the comfort of my home. I would say I’m in a good place financially, but psychology has always been a passion of mine. However, every time I think about starting the journey, I feel hesitant.
Some concerns:

For those who are already psychologists, is it worth pursuing this field? How has your experience been, especially financially?
I would love to hear your stories, both the challenges and the rewards. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I've been an electrician for a while, but just recently started with instrumentation. I'm supposed to take the assessment in the near future, for a different employer. Was wondering if anyone knew what kind of material is on it, or a place that I could find some practice questions, or what kind of information to study. I recently took the ramsay for a different place, but at the same testing center, and passed it. It was more electrical than instrumentation though, and they said it wasn't the same test and that I would still have to take this one. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

2024.11.25 09:31 Trillion5 TURNING BAD INTO GOOD (Update 2024 Nov 25)

Yesterday I put out a post on various sites suggesting 'new' research had corroborated an old finding pointing to circumstellar dust being a mechanism for secular dimming (link to paper below). I had googled research pertaining to Tabby's star with the filter November 2024 - and it led me to a paper which I thought was new research but in fact dated back to 2017. Indeed I had read it way back (and at that time could barely understand 1% of it) - but the paper, though 7 years old now, really belongs in the links of my Beginners Guide as circumstellar dust was where my work started!
So what have learnt, apart from never make a post after drinking port with your friends? Though I am currently working with two scientists (an astrophysicist and a master of sciences), they are both incredibly busy with their own projects and so progress is painstakingly slow. They do not have a say (yet) on what I post on the Migrator Model sub. I've also learnt search engines don't work in the way one might expect and that there is a surprising lack of open content regarding new research on the star.
