2024.11.25 09:22 Helpful-Wonder-8163 Everyone's struggling with a new system
Our school recently implemented a new grading system, so instead of writing classroom participation, homework and summative assessment grades, we now have a portfolio.
Now, this is completely new to me, but the way it works is that for portfolio works the students have to receive either half or above to get a pass, which would be fine, but if they get half or above the electronic journal automatically marks it down as the highest grade, so even if a student barely passes, the journal will give them the highest grade. All of my students, and I mean ALL of them are extremely grade motivated, so now that we have a very loose grading system, they completely stopped putting any effort into anything.
No homework grade? No homework is getting done.
No classroom participation grade? I have to force them to do anything in class.
Deadlines? 3/15 will submit on time.
Talking to the parents? They don't care.
Many of my colleagues have expressed dissatisfaction with the new system. Classroom behaviour problems have skyrocketed, I've brought it up with the head of the department, all I got back was sass.
I'm sure this kind of system works in other countries, but the way things are going, nobody's going to learn anything (nobody's learning anything already) and teachers are going to be stuck on nanny service for very badly behaved kids.
The funny thing is that the administration themselves had said that implementing such systems in classes that had relied of grades was a bad idea, yet here we are.
At this point I'm just going with the flow, hoping I won't drown in all the bs being thrown our way, cos I'll be honest it feels like they're making stuff up as we go along.

ممكن اعطي مواليد 85 مصروف شهري اربعين ريال ، و يكون ملك الاطفال في الحارة لانه يقدر يوجب عليهم حلويات و سكاكر ب ربع ريال. بس اذا اعطيت مواليد 2007 خمسين ريال ، مابين اشتراك سوني او لعبة سوني ، او العاب غاتشا او كاس قهوة ، او طلبية اونلاين فيها رسوم شحن و ضرايب ؛ او حتى شحن جوال ، او ميكاج. فيه اشياء كثير تخلب الاربعين ماتكفي. بس مايعني اعطيه 4000 عشان تكفي.
ف بوقتنا الحالي ، كم تقريبا مصروف المراهقين و الاطفال و على ايش غالبا المصروف ينصرف ؟
اشوف ان الاجيال الصاعدة اكثر جيل معرض لمواضبع الفلوس و الانفاق و الادخار و الصرفيات و الالتزامات من اعمار مبكرة بحكم ان هذه المواضيع وحدة من اكثر المواضيع نقاش بين الناس في الواقع و مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي. قد ايش هذا ممكن يأثر على ثقافتهم المالية من عمر مبكر و ينعكس هذا على مصروفهم ؟
كثير مراهقين صاروا يشتغلون. تختلف الاسباب ، اللي يبغى يساعد اهله و مضطر ، اللي يبغى خبرة و اشياء يكتبها في السيرة الذاتية للعمل مستقبلا ، اللي تعز نفسه يسأل اهله ، ايا ماكانت الاسباب ، فيه انفاق و ادخار. كيف شكل هذا الانفاق و الادخار ؟
واضح ان فيه شبح مالي يحوم حول الاجيال الجديدة ، بطريقة او بأخرى ، و مسبب لهم ضغط و توتر بشكل غريب عجيب. و هذا الشبح مختلف عن الاشباح المالية اللي تحوم علينا حنا اللي اكبر منهم ومن جيل مختلف.
