SPOILERS AHEAD
I think Pulang Araw has a good concept. There are also some really great scenes that should've been more viral IMO. But, I know that many people have dropped this show and I can understand why. Here are some of my main thoughts on why this show isn't doing so well.
1.) It tried so hard to be the next Maria Clara at Ibarra. Notice how the PA episodes had heavy drama right from the start? I always felt that it was deliberately formatted to try to get the same reaction that MCIA had when Maria Clara and Ibarra were starting to suffer at the hands of the friars. MCAI felt organic because it showed us the good moments first and made us love the characters which led us to empathize with them deeply when they were hurting. Whereas PA immediately showed us that the children were already getting the short end of the stick even before the war started. It was sad but because they were already suffering, it watered down the fear that we were supposed to feel for the characters during the actual onset of the war. It did not feel as gut-wrenching to watch because my thought as the viewer was like, "Poor kids, but what's new?" Don't get me wrong, I'm not minimizing the repercussions of the war but I just couldn't feel like it had such a major impact when these kids already had such shitty lives. The director or writers probably thought na kung bugbog na bugbog emotionally ang mga bida ay mas mahahabag ang damdamin ng manonood pero the opposite happened at naumay lang kami.
2.) Nakakainis yung length. There are so many scenes and dialogues that should have been cut shorter. Na sacrifice yung ganda for the screentime. Filipino viewers are not stupid. We can tell if the producers are trying to lengthen a show. It's one of the biggest killers of interest.
For example: Pulang Araw Episode 47. Adelina and Hiroshi's late night conversation at the dinner table. This scene felt repetitive because these two had similar conversations before and after this scene about the same topic. Hiroshi also literally asked Adelina the same question twice in this one scene alone. Check Netflix timestamp 11:20 "Are you asking me to rebel against the colonel?" and 9:12 "What do you want me to do? Rebel against the colonel?"
3.) The sound team was left unchecked. Maybe if you're watching an episode a day, you won't notice it as much pero try to pay attention and you can actually hear thrilling, fear-inducing or whatever sound effect they wanted to insert IN. EVERY. SINGLE. LINE. OF. DIALOGUE. Once you notice it, it's hard to unhear. Nakakasira ng moment because it feels like walang tiwala ang sound team sa acting ng cast in bringing the emotions to the scene. OA masyado yung editing. At some point I had to ask myself, "Hindi ba ito nasita ng director?"
4.) Medyo bobo ang mga characters. Si Teresita lang ata yung medyo mautak sa mga bata. Beauty is her currency and when Amalia gave her advice to use it wisely, mabilis rin sya nakapag pick up. She's also very quick-witted in tight situations. And though, she knew she had to save herself first, she was also brave enough to stay for the other girls because she knew that she can help them in her own ways.
Hiroshi was too slow to see that his positive view of his home country was not as actually the reality. Nainis ako kasi di ko ma gets kung in denial sya o sadyang bobo lang. Adelina was too headstrong with her words and yet she only cried about everything. She's the epitome of a damsel in distress during the first 30-ish episodes pero sobrang tabil ng dila. Eduardo has a savior complex, di nya lang ma-admit. He was insubordinate towards the leader of their guerilla group but it's excused because "at least he did something good." We should not forget that the end doesn't justify the means.
Nababawi lang ang character writing flaws kasi magaling na mga artista ang gumanap.
Anyway, these are just my personal thoughts. I also have a lot of good things to say about the series and some characters really shined. I might even be inclined to make a separate post on that topic if I have extra time. Sister Manuela, Lorena, Tito Johnny, the Borromeo's housekeepers, Tiya Amalia, and so many more have given amazing performances. Ang sarap ng cinematography and though I do appreciate the CGI, some of it still leaves much to be desired. I also cannot express just how much I really love the editing of the fight scenes between the Japs and the guerillas. It's giving action talaga.

It’s shocking what can happen in a year. You might lose your mom to lung cancer, you might get injured in an accident, you might use up your vacation to make it to doctor appointments, you may harm yourself to the point of being admitted as a suicide risk, but it doesn’t end does it? You can only hear so many times that it’ll get better before you give up, it’s as meaningless as the gesture behind it. Coping mechanisms are weird, you might take meds, you might cut into yourself, you may talk to a lot of people outside or online, or become sexually addicted to various encounters. Where does it end?
You may just get too tired to bother anymore…

Hey y'all! Need your help about my situation on wether to leave my current company or not. Any thoughts, opinions, and ideas are appreciated!
I've been working for 1.5 years as a Junior Engineer and I recently got another job offer from a different company.
Job Offer:
- 55K gross (Around 46K net)
- US Based
- Night Shift
- HMO
- Equipment provided
- Laptop (Latest Acer Predator)
- Monitor (24 Inch)
In my current job:
- 35K gross (Around 30k net)
- De minimis allowance (Around 4k)
- Flexible schedule
- We work asynchronously here so it's very chill
- Can work whenever I want
- HMO
- 2K allowance for coding (ex. Cursor AI, ChatGPT, CoPilot)
I already talked with my manager about this and ask for a counter offer but unfortunately they can't give me the raise. He asked me whats the minimum increase that I can accept and I haven't responded yet. With all of that, I'd roughly get around 10K - 15K increase if I accept the new offer.
If you were in my position, what would you do? What minimum increase would you think is acceptable? Is 10K - 15K increase okay? I'm having a hard time trying to make a decision or is it just me complicating things.

As the title says, I have just bought a 2nd hand car less than 3 weeks ago. There seems to be a problem with the clutch, now I know within 30 days you can reject the car due to a fault and get a refund, however the dealership are coming out with lots of excuses, saying the car has a high bite point on the clutch and thats normal, but they have agreed to have a look at it. Due to their initial response, I'm not too confident they'll admit any fault in it, however they have scheduled the check 2 days before the 30 days is up. My main question is, if I drop the car off, and in the period its with them the 30 days lapses, am I still covered as if it was within 30 days, as the fault was raised befire then? Or is it now 31 days to 6 months?
Is it best to get an independent check from another garage?
A further issue is that a 3 year manufacturers warranty was included, however the dealership have been unable to provide full service history at this stage after asking repeatedly, so in all liklihood it doesn't exist, therefore the warranty will be void. If this is the case, what happens? Is the dealership required to provide a warranty for 3 years?

Since updating to 15.1.1 a few days ago, I have noticed a mysterious battery drain while my MacBook Air M3 is sleeping. It drained 17% last night after charging to 100% over the course of about 10-11 hours. Anyone else noticing this? I've rebooted it to confirm there aren't any apps misbehaving.
