Hi Electricians,
For the 2nd time in my life I hired an electrician, but compared to the first time when I quoted 3, went with a competitive and extremely competent, professional, and communicative one - I just did a quick Google search and had a guy come out.
The situation - in a loft, wanting to install a new LED light bar above my kitchen island - which required a new location to be run. The electrician does a walkthrough, calls out the potential to run from an outlet a few feet away. I mentioned he could also come from this other wall near the fridge - technically a few feet further, but perhaps easier since there is a can light literally just a foot or two from the new location ... but he dismisses this as it didn't have a constant hot.
In any case, he about to start sawing into the wall - and I'm like - hey - what's the quote / estimate? He says $450 ... is about to saw again ... and I stop again and say "And does that include reattaching the drywall and just a rough mudding (not to finish level) and he says no ... but he has a guy that I could hire. I mull it over and say ... okay, $450 is okay for this (tapping an outlet, putting in a new switch location, running a wire along a ceiling, and then hanging an LED light).
Over the course of the next 5 hours he puts 3 holes into my wall around the switch location, and then after cutting a few big holes in my ceiling start to complain about the perpendicular beams in the way of the long wire run to the Light hanging location. Says it's now going to be $575. I protest - it's on him to use a stud finder and come up with the best approach before he starts pulling down drywall, and he agrees to stay with $450.
Over the course of the next 5 hours I feel so much regret in my gut. the channel that he created in the drywall was about 10' across the ceiling, about 1' wide. He was also running back and forth to his car maybe 4 times, and had to go to Home Depot to get of all things, romex, switch, junction box. He was gone for maybe 1.5 hrs total during that time - and left an insane mess from all of the free-handed sawzalling. He ran out of time and couldn't hang the fixture and left it up to me whether I wanted him to return to finish the work, or if I just wanted to finish it myself. Contacts me a few days later asking for the remaining ($150 deposit, asking for another $250 minus $50 for not hanging or connecting the light).
I told him that I was extremely disappointed with how he approach all of this --- bad plan, super sloppy work. The biggest issue was the enormous hole - vs perhaps tapping a light or running along the support beams for less cutting. He was throwing away pieces of drywall that I needed for all of the patching!
But to me what is more unforgivable as an electrician and a professional tradesperson was that the dang switch he placed uneven with the adjacent electrical outlet just <2" away! It HAS to be level ... he chose an arbitrary height off the stud ... but even better would have been a 2-gang box. Being so close, the drywall was collapsing and crumbling apart on both sides of this new switch. He also installed a toggle instead of a dimmer as asked --- said he could change it to a dimmer but would have to go back to the store, what a load of horseshit.
So ... we are currently re-negotiated to closing this job at $350 and I've asked for this to be put into writing that he cannot come back to me for any more money. But I have to ask --- does this seem reasonable? How can I protect myself from any more clawbacks? Or should I be harder on this person for creating an expensive mess to cleanup?

 | Hi All I recently inherited this fluffy cat when my grandmother passed away. We estimate it's about 35 years old. It seems to be made from a pretty fragile plastic, and the stuffing inside is quite hard/dense. It is pretty dirty (see ear in second pic) and was in the hospital bed with her during her last days. We accidentally scared a night nurse with it lol, no one expects an orange cat in the bed. I''d like to try to clean it and re-fluff it up a bit if possible. It doesn't have to be perfect, this cat was strapped to the back of a motorcycle and driven across Western Canada at one time. I have read through other threads on this topic and they haven't quite hit the mark. I don't think I should mess with the stuffing, and I'm afraid of putting it in a washing machine because it seems quite fragile and may even melt. I think dish soap and surface wash is probably the best way to go. But, I was wondering if anyone had any super clever internet suggestions for tools to try to preserve the fluff without accidentally tearing it out? Maybe a nail brush or a slicker brush? Any tips for a good surface cleaning technique? So long story short, my ex and I only officially dated for a month. But we were hooking up a month before and about five months post break up. It was around this time last year we were officially dating. We tried to remain friends but obviously there were still feelings on my end. I met somebody else after we stopped hooking up and after that we kind of continued to talk. Now the reason I wanted to continue our friendship is because he was apart of the friend group I had in my first year of college. But slowly after I was with someone else he distanced himself from all our friends and myself (understandably). I think at first I was not sad about the break up because I was so angry with him. He wrote me a letter (while we were still hooking up) explaining he was less interested in me than he let on and he did not want a relationship. He later apologized for this claiming it was a coward’s way out for him. Anyway, I basically had not talked to him very much at the start of this year. But in October I drunk called him and told him all the things I was mad at him for. I don’t remember much of it. I never apologized for that the next day. We have one class together and I see him all the time. For some reason a feeling came over me of guilt and sadness. I know I was not perfect in our relationship. Our thanksgiving break is this week so I basically said “hey, hope you’re doing okay and I’m sure you’re looking forward to going home” etc. he hasn’t answered and I told myself before I reached out I had to be okay with that outcome but I’m very anxious. Just wanted to share.

Hello bass clarinetists, just a few weeks ago I switched over from Bb to Bass clarinet in band. This is my setup:
• Vandoren blue box 2 1/2s • Yamaha 4C • Rovner ligature • Crappy low eb vito
All of the notes from lowest A and below are squeaking when I tongue them or articulate them with any air at all. I’ve been planning to get the Fobes Debut mouthpiece as I’ve heard it may be more suited to my reeds. I was wondering if this is a problem that a much better mouthpiece would likely fix or it this more likely the instrument? Overall I can get a good sound out on all of the notes, just the articulation is rough. I have not done any checks for leaks or anything though. I’ll take any help (or advice in general!) I can get thanks
