I’ve seen some awful stuff on Reddit when it comes to hate speech, especially in discussions about TV and the entertainment industry. But with House of the Dragon, things have gone completely nuts. We all know how toxic both “sides” of the fandom can be, but let’s talk about the elephant in the room: Black fans in that specific sub aren’t just toxic anymore: Many of them are openly committing hate speech against US.
We’ve all learned to ignore online drama by now, but today I saw a comment so extreme and outrageous, yet upvoted and praised via. comments as always, that I had to report it. Thankfully, Reddit took it seriously, notified me that it violated their rules, and took action against the user. The comment’s deleted by Reddit now, but here’s what I remember:

There was more, much more but I can’t recall everything since it’s deleted.
This behavior isn’t just ignored—it’s encouraged in that Black fandom sub. They reward this kind of hate with upvotes and positive comments. And the mods will not take anything like that down there, as some of them are just like this.
Like, seriously, how can people demonize and dehumanize an entire group of fans over a TV show? And it’s not just about Team Green fans in general—they’re specifically targeting us, the users of this subreddit.
I’m not trying to stir up drama here. I just want to remind you that you don’t have to put up with this. If you see this kind of hate speech, report it. Reddit doesn’t tolerate this behavior, and they will take action if your report is valid. And trust me, based on how unhinged they’ve become, it probably will be.
A Note:
This isn’t about all Black fans. Shoutout to the ones who get that this is just entertainment in the end. This is about the toxic subset of people who have lost all perspective and are spreading hate.

Don’t delete this post “to keep the peace.” Users here shouldn’t have to deal with literal hate speech for liking a fictional family. Let people know they can defend themselves by reporting it and that Reddit takes these things seriously.
TL;DR: Some Black fans on Reddit are openly spreading hate speech against us, Team Green fans in this sub. I reported one extremely outrageous and disgusting comment today, and Reddit actually took action, deleted it and disciplined the user. This kind of behavior is encouraged over the other HOTD sub, but it doesn’t mean we have to tolerate it. If you see hate speech, report it—Reddit takes this stuff seriously. This isn’t about all Black fans, just the insanely hateful, toxic, mentally unwell ones. Mods, please don’t remove this post; people deserve to know they can stand up to this garbage.

PREAMBLE Let me preface this by acknowledging that I am not a theoretical physicist, mathematician, or scientist and my understanding and explanation may not be in-line with the latest science. Nor am I attempting to gate-keep any elements of the game, it's discussion, or its enjoyment. Lastly, outside of a few brief mentions within marketing materials, there's no indication how big a role time dilation will play or even whether or not it's intended as an active gameplay feature or passive element that a player has no control of; nor is there any indication that 'time travel' is NOT included, it may have simply not been mentioned for any number of reasons. I've simply seen several widely mistaken viewpoints that assume "time dilation" = "time travel" and I find that frustrating.
I'm posting this because I want folks to have the right understanding of the lore and background here because a) I personally find the explicit nature of 'time dilation' and its potential inclusion as a game mechanic to be very interesting both as a technical aspect of game development and as a thematic story/character element; and b) the manner with which 'fans' of contemporary games/shows/movies/etc seem to run wild with their opinions based on misinformation, incorrect assumptions, lies, or wishful thinking is EXHAUSTING.
REFERENCES By no means exhaustive, just a place to start. Also, I apologize for the laziness, but don't have time to source everything that follows, but it's common knowledge, easily searchable across the web and scientific journals, and if there's anything inherently incorrect, I will acknowledge and update as-needed.

MY EXPLANATION Time dilation is a function of velocity wherein the faster an object travels, the faster time seems to pass for objects that are stationary or slower than it. The particular example often used a two twins with clocks. One gets in a rocket with their clock, does a sling shot or two around the planet, lands back on earth and when they compare the two clocks, the earth twin's clock will show a time that is fractionally later in the day than the one who rocketed around the earth. As such, the rocket twin will be fractionally younger. This is in fact, a very real thing that we deal with to ensure that GPS and other types of satellites are relaying the correct positioning information.
What the game is doing is amping that up through fictional elements like much faster space engines and/or jump gates [or potentially wormholes] where the velocities involved are likely near the speed of light. At that speed, the time dilation is significantly more pronounced, such that several, if not dozens or even potentially hundreds of years elapse during transit periods, potentially adding (again, we have no idea how this mechanic will work in game, assuming it makes it as a final feature) an interesting and evolving twist to in-game character choice and resulting impacts.

We have a winner! I have been swatching. And swatching and swatching. I have learned a lot. 1) it’s much easier in knitting. 2) yarn is weird. 3) yarn can be fudged. A lot. 4) a basic difference between the flatness of knit and crochet. 5) when you think, “those colors are all the same saturation. It won’t show up that well”, remember you have done colorwork before and you DO know what you are talking about. They don’t. It’s pretty, but they don’t show up well.
I finally understand why it looks so different in crochet! The pooling colors are every other row. In stockinette in knitting, all the rows are flat ask even. In single crochet, every other row is a bit recessed, which makes one of the color patterns stand out more. In moss stitch, the alternate rows stack, changing how the alternate color patterns highlight. I haven’t tried garter stitch, which I need to do just for completeness.
I really disliked the moss stitch argyle that the yarn wanted to make. That is the top part of the first photo. The numbers were regular, all 2 or 4. So, since it just barely fit with those, I changed one of the 4s to a 3. And worked it very loose. It didn’t want that, but I wanted it, and I’m the boss of my crochet. That changed the pattern such that I have a choice of 2 different angles and stitch counts.
So, my plan is to make this sweater, little girl roughly size 6, with the body in moss stitch. I might make the sleeves in the smaller argyle, as rectangles, and then add the shaping to the sides after. I have a matching pink, for the yoke, shoulders, button bands, and sleeve shaping sections, and cuffs. I have not decided if I will make the shoulders in moss stitch or stockinette.

2024.11.26 19:12 Tiny_Prune_4424 Will Arch be good for my purposes?

Hello archpenguins. I've kind of hit that stage of learning Linux where I endlessly distrohop until I find a distro I like. I've been using Bazzite (a steamos clone for non-handhelds) for a while but I've also had my sights on other distros, primarily Arch and Mint.
I'm not an elite penguin or anything but I do know my way around the terminal (a bit) and most of the basics. I mainly do gaming, and for that purpose my current distro has been quite good but the customisability of Arch and the 'it-just-works' approach Mint has been taking have caught my eye.
The ability to just swap out the Linux kernel and other low level (don't really know the word for it lol) settings in Archinstall seems interesting because I could make an Arch installation as optimised as it can be. I have actually set up a few Arch installs on a spare laptop too so I'm not going in entirely blind either.
So do you all think it would be worth it to move from my bazzite install I've had for a while to Arch? Or is Arch not really adapted well to my purposes?

PS: in the second part of the video, there's a layer of instrument that's grayed out, i just want to explain why. the synth that plays in that layer is an arpeggiator, but throughout 16 bars, the release of it increases, causing it to sound like normal chords. this increase is REALLY heavy on my CPU, because every time i clicked the played button on that part, the sound broke and became impossible to hear. So, to share the final result properly with you guys, I rendered the song with that synth turned on, recorded the screen with it turned off and replaced the audio when editing the video.
