I'm 42M. Just quit my high paying job because I was about to have a mental breakdown because I couldn't stop working. I couldn't even take a vacation because I felt constantly pressured to respond to emails and carried my laptop with me. I stopped enjoying concerts and couldn't even relax with my friends and family because I was constantly worried about my toxic job that demanded my attention 24/7.
The coastfire calculator shows that just counting the $750K in retirement accounts, I should be able to have $60K (at 6% growth) or $80K (at 7% growth) by the time I'm 67. I'm assuming that's not even counting any social security income (if there is any).
I was alive but not living. Since putting in my resignation, I removed this huge weight off my shoulders. I'm actually able to put my full focus on conversations, and I'm sleeping a lot better too. I didn't realize how much work was affecting my life outside of work.
No regrets.
I'll eventually return to work, but not at the same income level, which is why I feel like I'm coasting more. I may never be able to max out my retirement accounts again, and that's ok.

I am 34F, I have a BA in English from Penn State University, and I hate my library science grad school program. It's only available online, and I feel like screaming whenever I look at my computer. I can never get ahold of the teachers, I don't understand the readings. The semester ends in a week, and I haven't even started my final projects. I want to drop out. I don't want to be a librarian anymore. I can't stand doing research and I hate giving presentations and I'm SO heartily sick of being a student.
I don't feel fit to do anything. Nothing makes me happy. I've done retail. I hate it. I never want to do retail again. I don't like kids...and I'm not great with people to be honest. I can't figure out what to do. I have terrible credit and am in a debt relief program, and I live with my parents who are currently supporting me. Right now, relocation is not an option.
The only thing I have ever wanted to do was write a book but even that just isn't working out. Right now I'm feeling highly discouraged. Willing to answer any questions necessary to help get on the right path.

2024.11.27 01:31 Funny-Ebb-3891 I am part of the reason a boy grew up to be a child molester.
It all began back in kindergarten. There was this kid, let’s call him Alex. We were the same age, but we weren’t really friends. We attended the same school, just in different classes. Then, halfway through the year, Alex and his family, including his three siblings, moved in right next door to me. We started riding the same bus to school, and I got to know his older sister pretty well. One day, on the bus ride home, a group of fifth-grade boys pulled Alex and me to the back and forced us to watch something inappropriate. I remember Alex was really curious and fascinated by it, and he couldn’t stop talking about it afterward.
Fast forward a year, my parents pulled me out of school and decided they wanted to homeschool me. Alex's parents did the same thing with him and his siblings. We were at each other's houses a lot during this time. Sometimes things would feel off but I never paid much attention to it. Later, I come to find out the entire family was being sexually abused by their father. which explains a lot of what happened. One day while I was over there at their house Alex pulled me aside and asked me to strip. I was a little uncomfortable but to be honest I kind of enjoyed the attention. After that day every time I would come over, Alex and I would go into a room by ourself and we would show each other our naked bodies. This was between ages 8 to 12. Toward the end I hated myself for what we were doing I would try to stop but I would always be pressured back into doing it.
I know I was feeding into his sexual impulses. While I was willingly doing this I found out later he was doing this forcibly with several other girls around the same time and had gone as far as another boy when he was 10 and the boy was 5. Of course, all of this was because he was being sexually assaulted by his father. Doesn’t change how sick it was.
When I was 12 I went to at summer camp and was sexually assaulted at knifepoint by an adult man. after that incident, I shut everyone out of my life and as a result, Alex and I stopped. About a year later it came out that alex’s father was abusing them. There was a big divorce and it was a big deal in our tiny little town. I was not involed in this because I was still mentally shut down. During this time my family decided to move away and that was the last time I saw to Alex. A few years later, I learned that Alex had been arrested for molesting a 3-year-old. (he was 16) He is still in jail almost 2 years later. I don't know when he'll get out and I've lost contact with his entire family, thankfully. Sometimes I can't help but feel a connection there and feel guilty for not seeing the signs and for feeding into his temptations for attention. In the end, I suposse we were both only little children.
