I feel like my heart is tearing itself apart. It’s one thing to navigate the complexities of a relationship, but this—this feels like betrayal cloaked in shadows. Today, I found out that my boyfriend borrowed money from my friend behind my back. My friend! The one I confide in, the one I trust. How could they both act like this wouldn’t come crashing down on me?
I want to scream, cry, or maybe just disappear for a while. He didn’t even think to tell me. Not a single word. And she? She kept it quiet too. It’s not even about the money; it’s about trust. It’s about how the people closest to me can carry out something so significant without even a passing glance in my direction.
Yes, I understand it’s technically between them. I can’t police their decisions, nor do I want to. But how am I supposed to stand here, caught in the middle, pretending like it doesn’t affect me? Pretending like it doesn’t hurt? Like I’m not some idiot left to piece together what they chose to keep from me.
I keep asking myself: Why didn’t he come to me first? Am I not enough? Am I not reliable? Or is it that I’m just...invisible? This feels like a thousand tiny daggers, each one sharper than the last, carving into my confidence, my trust, my sanity.
Right now, I can’t face him. I can’t face her. I can barely face myself in the mirror, knowing I’ve somehow ended up in this tangled mess. I just want to close my eyes and make it all go away. But life doesn’t work like that, does it?

Age:26 Gender: Female Medication: fludrocortisone 0.1mg Conditions: neurocardiogenic syncope, PCOS, overweight (bmi 40+)
A couple months ago I went to my gp for having fast heart rate 100+ when standing and feeling faint/dizzy almost every day with concerns of POTS, was given a holter monitor for 24 hours with a referral to a cardiologist and a tilt table test. Holter monitor was mostly normal except they said my heart rate actually got too low but it was while I was sleeping so they weren’t concerned.
Tilt table test was positive for neurocardiogenic syncope but no POTS. Cardiologist did another 24hour holter, ecg, treadmill stress test and they all came back ‘normal’. Cardiologist gave script for fludrocortisone for the syncope, after reading the side effects I was scared and didn’t want to take it, saw my gp and asked if I could try losing weight first before trying the fludro and he agreed. Was given a script for semaglutide and took that for a couple weeks until I reached the 1ml dose then my pre-syncope symptoms became a lot worse and started affecting my life.
Could no longer drive without getting faint/dizzy but I kept trying to push through it thinking it was anxiety. Went back to gp and he said it was the semaglutide reacting to my heart and making my condition worse, told me to stop taking semaglutide and when it was out of my system I’d feel better and be able to drive. Stopped taking the semaglutide and 3 weeks later went back to gp because I did not feel better. Started taking the fludrocortisone at a half dose.
Immediately felt worse about 3 days after taking it, I tried to walk my daughter to kindergarten (not even 10 minute walk) and my heart was racing, was very sweaty, out of breath and had ringing in my ears and black dots in my vision. Pushed through the drop off but had to get someone else to pick her up in the afternoon. Tried the half dose for about a week before going back to gp saying that it made me feel worse. He said that fludrocortisone has no cardiac receptors so that’s not what was causing the high heart rate and asked me to up my dose to a full tablet.
I’ve been on the full 0.1mg dose for about 4-5 weeks now. Blood pressure has raised but I still can’t walk without getting dizzy and faint. New symptoms of getting dizzy and faint while resting/laying down and now my heart rate keeps going below 60bpm (40-59 on average). I keep waking up from sleep gasping with a heart rate of 40, unable to fall asleep for quite awhile most nights because I can feel my heart rate slowing and my body lets out a gasp and I feel like I have to move. Been to the hospital twice now for very bad chest pain, specifically in the left side but also a lot of pressure in the middle of my chest.
Pain in the left side feels like squeezing and occasionally burning that spreads all across my chest and upper back. Was given 2 ecgs at each of my last hospital visits (last Sunday and tonight) plus the blood test that checks for heart damage and both were normal.
Been told it is not my heart but doctors have no idea what it could be. Was given an antacid tablet, ‘pink lady’ antacid, anti-inflammatory injection in the arm and a ‘strong pain relief’ can’t remember the name, plus a dose of Panadol. Nothing helped even slightly and I’m honestly scared to go to sleep or even leave my house, my daughter has missed weeks of kinder because I can’t walk or drive.
Please help with any suggestions. The doctor at the hospital tonight said to try and book an urgent appointment with my gp tomorrow and to ask for a chest X-ray and I have an appointment with my cardiologist next Wednesday for review of the fludrocortisone. I did email her asking to halve my dose again at the suggestion of the first hospital doctor and I’ve been back on the half dose for the last 2 days, I mentioned my other symptoms briefly but she does not believe it is my heart or the fludrocortisone either. Will post photos in comments of my most recent blood tests and reply from cardiologist.
