2024.11.28 08:30 nusssuss Eufy/Google Home integration is confusing AF
After having a Eufy system for a month, I’ve struggled integrating with google home. Probably because I’m a iOS user. I also own an android tablet.. which can live stream only the cameras.. Automation - not as yet.. but this is where I get confused. I have the most conflicting setup. A Wifi mesh system (Bridged through a seperate router that supports pppoe) and I can not stop 5ghz - all the cams through the app work flawlessly.. all I really wanted was to have a screen to automate something if something happened. This system is at my mother’s house.. installed after an attempted break in and I want her to be able to see the cameras when she likes.. she’s not tech savvy.. and hates constant notifications on her phone.. I was considering an echo show.. but remembered my old android tablet.. no luck finding a way to automate events so far with that.. I don’t want to stream 24/7 as that will just chew battery.. but after a while of researching all I could figure out was RSTP - which would be fine, however the doorbell and s340 don’t support this. So I uninstalled google home from my iPhone, was watching TV.. and saw in the settings google home.. wtf so I see? The cameras all streaming.. cutting in and out but working to some degree. This is conflicting as it’s not on 2.4ghz - Eufy states “works with google” but if I ask my assistant to show me a camera it just says feed not available.. it also states that they can’t be viewed on android TV on their website (I also read that nest devices don’t work either) so what the actual f? I’ve f* with so many router settings & setting the homebase a dedicated IP address.. but this only happened once I took it off my iPhone.. maybe that’s a trick or something? God knows.. I just thought I’d share for anyone trying to integrate.. there must be a way if it’s doing this surely.. submitted by nusssuss to EufyCam [link] [comments] |

Is there a way to make a character invisible to the eyes of the camera, but still generate shadows and interact with the environment? I want to hide character 1 (the one in front) from the image, but have his shadow continue to be projected on character 2 (the one in the back), is something like that possible? https://preview.redd.it/eigtlgdesl3e1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ca32a565b7164cd6c145e70e780feda1174a5cd submitted by WorldgamerHD to MineImator [link] [comments] |

2024.11.28 08:30 Suvatti Please help out a socially isolated teen
Dear Reddit,
I hope you all are doing well. I'm posting from an account I'll delete soon(ish) since this is a very personal matter I would not want to associate with myself. Hence, this post is in some part a vent/rant to help me come to terms with reality, and also an open place for help/advice I can refer back to.
I'm currently a sophomore at a school for gifted students called Stanford OHS. I believe the reason I got accepted to OHS and why I fit the "gifted" label (although I believe the term is very inadequately defined) is due to the following:
Academics
I'm ahead of typical high school classes in some respects. I'm taking AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, and self-studying Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus just for fun haha. I'm also a grade ahead, but that's not really that relevant I assume.
Extracurricular Stuff
I don't like the word extracurricular since it implies work outside of my coursework, yet I actually spend an equal amount of time on it as I do for school, and it overlaps in some senses. The main thing I like to do is playing with tech in any way or form. From being a sysadmin (I have a home server rack) to Fusion360 I've done a lot of stuff -- which may actually be bad in hindsight. 😅 However, I've been involved in actual coding since I was seven. When I was 12, I emailed a ton of CEOs of companies since I was bored and wanted to work on some actual projects instead of the tens of personal projects I'd already done. I ended up interning for one company and they gave me $6k (out of the blue!) for building a new product for them.
By that point, I had covered about 5-6 programming languages and done several significant projects in iOS app development, game development, web development, Python, before settling on AI/ML back in 2020 when I got intrigued by Unity ML agents during game dev.
Another fun story I have is about my family's journey. We were middle class in India when I was born, and when we moved to the U.S. (when I was 1.5-years-old), we were initially in the lower middle/upper lower class until my parents worked very hard (for which I am very grateful), and we became the standard middle-class family living in an apartment. My dad had been trying entrepreneurship off and on for about a decade (even in India and the States), and he tried his latest venture. We were all living and working from home (both my parents were working while I was in online middle school) in a small tiny apartment (where I had taken over the living room because I was building a 3D printer lmao). I overheard a call where my dad was saying how the company was spending tens of thousands of dollars on content writers. This was back in 2021, and I had been playing with OpenAI's GPT-3 models at the time just for fun. So in a week or two, as a fun surprise, I showed my dad a prototype for a tool that could automatically write content for websites with GPT, which the content writers could then review. (keeping their jobs 💪 but increasing throughput) My parents were also going through an acquisition process back then (after several before had fallen through), and my tool likely helped them secure the deal since when my parents' company got acquired, they actually wanted to implement this tool for all the other companies under their portfolio. So I'm very proud of the small part I played in helping my parents sell their company, and it's one of my proudest accomplishments. :) After this, we bought our own house, and I got my own office (separate from my bedroom) for me to work on cool stuff and not take over the living room haha. Now in the past year I've done a couple of internships for about 2-3 months each. Currently I'm very happy since I've found something I want to work on for the next couple of years. I'm working with a Stanford lab on leading about half of the work they're doing while my postdoc advisor works on the other half with his folks. (he's an amazing guy and I'm so grateful for the responsibility he's given me)
Time for the big issue haha
As one would expect, when I got accepted into Stanford OHS I was ecstatic. Throughout my childhood, I've been very strongly socially isolated also due to my interests, and I expected to meet other people like me. However, I was very sorely disappointed when I realized a lot of my peers perhaps didn't have well-defined interests or passions and were strictly defined by how far along they were on the academic path compared to a typical high schooler.
One example I have is one of my "friends" wanted to skip Calc BC. She watched a couple of Khan Academy lectures on differentiation and derivative rules, and she was able to pass the entrance exam for Multivariable Calculus at OHS since they only test derivatives and some other stuff with a 60% or 70%+ required to pass. She proceeded to skip Calc BC and is now sorely struggling in MVC. It greatly surprised me that one would sacrifice actual learning and education for simply "jumping ahead" in the ladder. I mean, calculus as a topic is so beautiful, personally speaking, given the fact it was invented 400 years ago by revolutionaries such as Leibniz and Newton and was the cutting edge of mathematics at the time, and now we are able to teach it to literally 14 or 15-year-olds. But when I expressed my concerns to her about her education and how she's doing "wrong" in a sense to the subject itself, and the fact she didn't really truly understand the topic, the conversation quickly turned awkward. :(
Incidents like these quickly attuned me to the fact that perhaps my peers may not fully be like me (now of course nobody is alike but by different I mean different in our key motivators/intrinsic moral compass) in their interest/drive to pursue knowledge and may simply be in OHS for getting into a good college and whatever else comes with a good prep school. I'm mostly online since I need the freedom since I spend 6-y hours a day working on the Stanford stuff just for fun haha. (I work during class and after doing my homework, it's my happy place)
Now my social issues started really started at one of our in-person events at the end of last year when I went there and came back completely mentally shaken up. Some background context: I have a social circle of peers thanks to one of my only "friends." She mostly just listens to me talk and advises me on social circumstances but is unfortunately not able to reciprocate my conversation other than advising me on mundane social issues and stuff. When I went to the end-of-year event with this "social circle," nobody talked to me. Literally nobody. One incident I remember is when we were all leaving to play a board game for some reason, (I've noticed my peers don't like to plan due to being in paranoia of what everyone else will do in an event and things get random very fast) and everybody sat down on the sofa in the hotel, and I was left standing two feet away with no space on the sofa for me. Nobody even looked at me like I wasn't there while they were making space for people walking up next to me. However, whenever I'm meeting people (professional/personal), for example family friends and their children, work events, etc., I and everyone else make sure to seat everyone, engage everyone, notice when someone is tuning out, etc.
I just came back from another social event, and the exact same thing happened. I went with my "friends," and nobody talked to me. I could approach people and talk to them pleasurably for a couple minutes, but nobody approached or prefered to talk to me. The exact same sofa incident literally happened at this event too (deja vu am I right?). I sat down on a sofa in a corner of the room since nobody who was standing talked to me and nobody who was sitting made space for me before leaving to my hotel room and working on some random ML stuff for the rest of the event.
I then asked my friend why this could be, and she said that when I talked with people, the conversation tended to turn into a "lecture or lesson" in her own words and most people didn't find this enjoyable.
Now I'm not sure why this is, but I have some theories.
First of all, I've noticed high schoolers are quite irrational and tend to hold grudges, gossip, or negatively discuss people behind their backs, and when I am in conversations like these, I tend to try to explain why people might be behaving as so.
For example, my friend was strongly complaining about a girl she knows who doesn't talk to her and ghosts her, and I shared that she was being evicted from her home during that period. She said that isn't an "excuse" to not respond to her messages, and she was irked by my response since I wasn't reciprocating. Basically she didn't want me to attempt to help her she just wanted me to join in.
I've noticed also that when I tend to explain or perhaps highlight the unreasonableness in my peers' actions, they don't know how to respond—and to fill the social awkwardness created by the silence, I resume talking or double down on the lesson, which exacerbates the issue.
However, when I'm speaking with the grad students or PhDs I work with on life in general or personal/professional matters, the response is much, much different. They are often listening and willing to accept advice I share or questions I ask, and the conversation tends to be two-sided as we both talk about life, the work we've done, what we think the future of our fields will look like, etc. On the other hand last week at the school event I got dared to "bark at 10 students" and "invite them to the diddy party" by my social circle. They didn't even talk to me during the whole event but they apparently had a whole conversation on what they'd make me and a couple other kids do because we lost a dare on who will win the election.
Also put very simply, I don't like talking about mundane (to me—I recognize they may be interesting to others) topics such as who's dating who, or how some boy is getting some girl's number through Instagram and whatnot. And because of this, often nobody likes talking to me, which I've just recently realized but should have done so earlier.
I've been told I shouldn't change myself to fit others, and I should find people who are like me. So I turned to the clubs at OHS, such as the AI club and whatnot, but upon attending a few sessions, I saw it was some disgruntled junior or senior presenting some shoddy slides with a couple of screenshots from a paper and basically just reading off the content written there with no additional explanation. Now I personally am able to understand and read ML papers with fluency, but most others aren't able to do so, and are just there for the credit/clout on their college apps. I have heard the less academic clubs (by academic I mean pertaining to common majors) are more "authentic"; however, I personally am not interested in topics such as screenwriting or drama.
Put very simply, I'm confused, scared, and alone. I'm able to "talk dirty" and gossip with my peers and everything else a normal high schooler does, but it's a learned behavior (so I often go too far), and I don't want to continue the "relationship" further. It's not innate to who I am, and it's something I've had to rehearse and practice. (I once spent a couple of hours watching skibidi toilet and the other associated memes just to understand the concept and "joke" with my peers about it) I just want to find genuine people like me who also like learning, who also have interests and a strong moral compass along with it and who can talk about fun and meaningful topics—but it's very hard to do so in high school.
My dad tells me this will be easier in college, but I'm not so sure, and I don't want to be lonely for the next couple of years given I'm already in an online school due to all the extracurricular work I do.
Would greatly appreciate any advice/feedback, please be brutally honest. Sorry for the long preceding rant.
