2024.11.28 19:53 BocaTaberu Kuromori (Miyagi, Tabelog Bronze)
Kuromori is a Chinese omakase restaurant in Miyagi Prefecture with a fervent focus on local ingredients.
For a large-ish city like Sendai that has excellent produce originating from the sea on one side and mountains of the other side; I was surprised to see there are only two >4.0 tabelog score restaurants. Both are Cantonese-food, with Kuromori being the highest rated restaurant, while the second ranked restaurant is helmed by his ex-sous chef.
The meal style at Kuromori is kaiseki-esque and the omakase during my visit encompassed:
- Yakuzen (herbal soup)): warm medicinal soup made from ginseng, dried scallop, chicken, mushrooms, & cured ham.
- Hassun (seasonal appetiser): a showcase of Chinese cooking techniques (steam, braise, grill, fried etc) as well as different flavour profiles in Chinese cooking (sweet, spicy, savoury, sour).
- Spring roll filled with green eye fish
- Sea eel with sweet soy
- Wild rice with preserved cabbage
- Lotus root with XO sauce
- Pickled Okura flower
- Stirfried spicy beans
- Taro rice cake
- Agemono & Yakimono (fried & grilled dish): Crispy skin fried chicken using local aoba jidori and charsu (BBQ pork) using Saito branded pork.
- Miyagi (vegetables): Salad with locally grown seasonal leaves and sprouts. Not a lot of dressing but was sufficient to cleanse the palate.
- Takiawase (simmered dish): blue shark fin stewed in a stock made with homemade cured ham and served with Chinese cabbage and yellow leek. Kesennuma in Miyagi is the largest shark fishing port in Japan and has a long-standing tradition of using the entire shark meat without waste.
- Donabe Gohan (rice dish): sasanishiki rice cooked in claypot loaded with generous amounts of matsutake mushrooms. The sweetness of the rice contrasted nicely with the earthiness of the matsutake
- Mushimono (steamed dish): flaky belt fish blanketed with a translucent roll made from winter melon. Very hearty and refined at the same time. The broth looked lightweight but had good flavour from fish bones essence.
- Itamemono (stir fried dish ): Sendai beef is one of the premier beef in Japan and here, Kuromori-san simply wok-fried the beef with local bullhorn peppers and oyster sauce. Very clean tasting with some wok hei (breath of the wok).
- Kouumen : uumen is type of somen specific to Shiroishi city made simply with salt water and flour. Served with warm consommé-like chicken and soy broth.
- Mizumomo (dessert): a tofu-less doufuhua, with jersey milk used in lieu. Kabosu citrus was added for freshness and zing. The meal finished with warm osmanthus tea.
Dinner price was 20,000yen per person before tax and came with a membership card so that the chef can cook different dishes for the next visit. Lunch is priced at below 10k yen and focuses on dim sums. Reservation is via table check. I would recommend Kuromori for a refined Chinese omakase if you are visiting the Tohoku region.

TL;DR moved to MA from NH. Car is registered in ma, paid off car finally , got title and it came in as a NH title and need to transfer it but not sure what I need to do for paperwork and stuff. • • • • Hi! I moved to mass a few years ago from New Hampshire and after paying the sales tax of my car ( god that sucked it was over $700 cause I bought my car in mass when living in NH) my car was registered and all set. I paid off my car finally and I the bank was with DCU. I thought everything was updated with my new address because they sent it to my address in Ma but I got it in the mail and it was a New Hampshire title.
Now my question is how do I go about transferring it? I know originally I had to fill out the application for registering and transferring title to MA and not sure if I have to redo that all as my car is already registered and recently inspected. I just need to transfer it I’m assuming unless it’s an amend issue? Tyvm!

I started a traditional mead on the 15th of October so I decided to check on it today to see if it was done. There was still a little bit of pressure in the airlock pushing the water upwards, but I noticed that the mead itself was very clear. I took a reading on my newly acquired refractometer and was surprised to see that the gravity was at 1.030. I’d like to hear people’s thoughts on this as I am unsure as to whether it’s an issue with my refractometer or whether the fermentation stalled and the mead subsequently ‘cleared’.
I’m going to take another reading in a couple of days with the refractometer and compare it with the reading from the hydrometer I just ordered (last one broke). Your wisdom would be appreciated!
Recipe: Honey 3lb, Spring Water 3L, DAP 1tsp, M05 Yeast 5g, OG 1.100. Temperature fluctuated between 19C-23C, temperature tolerance of the yeast 15C-30C, alcohol tolerance 18%.

I'm trying to remember a horror movie that I watched before 2007 as a kid. I think it’s from the 90s or early 2000s.
There's a scene where a woman with red hair (I think) goes into a bathroom stall. The camera shows her white patent leather boots under the stall door as she sits on the toilet.
Suddenly, blood splatters everywhere. It doesn't look like anyone else is in the bathroom, and it's unclear whether she's attacked by something supernatural or a person.
The setting might be a club, bowling alley, or school bathroom. It was definitely a gory movie. I don’t know if all the details are right but the white boots and blood is definitely correct like I can’t even see white boots without thinking about it.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

51F here, perimenopausal, longtime migraineur that transformed from migraine with aura to vestibular migraine about 20 years ago. No medications currently except for occasional clonazepam for vertigo as needed. I’ve been getting Botox for migraine for about three years and feel it has helped decrease the severity and frequency of my attacks. Previous testing revealed significant vestibular loss in both ears but usually well-compensated. Otherwise healthy.
About a month ago I began using the Hairmax laser comb for hair loss. It is an FDA-approved device with 9 medical grade lasers, 655nm laser wavelength. It’s used 3x a week by running it over the entire scalp for 11 minutes. For the past month I’ve also seen a real increase in dizziness and imbalance, to the point that I’ve lost my balance a few times and struggle with walking at night and have bouncy vision. I have also had an increase in migraine attacks (where I get true vertigo as well as other migraine symptoms).
The only thing that’s been different in my routine is using the laser comb. No change in diet, medication, etc, no illnesses. Is it possible that these devices can affect the inner ears or other brain pathways linked to migraine? I can’t find any info online that indicates they can have side effects other than an irritated scalp.
