I'm just getting into trains and having issues. Not the issue I expect you think I'll have which would be related to signals. No, I think I have those sorted.
My issue is I have a set of stations setup such that there is one rail line coming in and one going out. On the input line it branches into three lines, one to where I want trains to pick up packaged water, one where they can pick up not-packaged water, and then a third line that goes around these. On the back side the line from the two pick-up stations are merged back in and then it splits once more. One line going into the station for delivering empty cannisters and one line that goes around that station, merges back with the line from the drop-off station, and then heads out of the setup.
My problem is my cannister delivery train refuses to use the empty line around the two drop off stations. It will sit and wait and block traffic if there is a train already in the canned water pickup station forever. Why is it so stupid? Why won't it take the empty, if slightly longer rail and go around? Do I have to always build the empty line to be the shortest route so this won't happen?

Let me just start by saying I'm mostly using this post to vent and put my thoughts on (virtual) paper at 12:30am. I suspect some of it is going to come across as "woe is me," but please just believe me that I'm very clear-eyed about how much of a privilege it is to have the complaints I have.
Anywho...
I'm in my first semester of grad school at one of the big, well-known NYC journalism schools, and I'm having second thoughts about continuing. I came to J school from a kind of weird position. I'm in my late 20s and left a successful and relatively high-paying career in comms because a) It was boring; b) I always enjoyed the thrill of the freelance journalism I did on the side more than my day job.
A few months in, I'm underwhelmed by some of the instruction in the program. To make matters worse, my cohort isn't super tight with each other, so it's pretty isolating. At the same time, I've been doing a good amount of freelance work on the side for small but reputable outlets, and I feel like that's a better learning experience in terms of actual newsgathering and writing.
I was in "stick it out" mode until a week ago when it dawned on me how ruinous a financial decision this all is unless I really really enjoy J school and really really get lucky with internships and jobs. I'm unbelievably fortunate that my first two semesters are a full ride, but all told, I'm going to end up forking out like $35-45k from my savings for living expenses and partial tuition over the next year. Then maybe I'll get a good entry level reporting job after graduation. But I just have this suspicion that I'm better served trying to find steady freelance gigs and using those clips to find a job rather than spending a lot of money for a somewhat better chance in a crapshoot job market in an ailing industry.
Some options I'm thinking about, to simplify things:
- Take my chances, stick it out, graduate
- Drop out, freelance for the next year instead of paying for school, try to get a job off the back of the freelance work
- Just go back to comms, ignore this whole "calling" thing, and try to make as much money as possible for as few hours of work as possible

I understand that Dobermans are naturally lean and fit, but in certain positions, his rib bones are quite visible, which has me wondering if this is normal or if there’s something I should be concerned about. For reference, here’s what his diet looks like: 1.5 kg of raw food daily (from a high-end local brand) 100 grams of chicken liver 1 raw egg A variety of high-nutrient vegetables as recommended by his vet With winter hitting harder this year, I tried increasing his daily dose of raw food to 2 kg, but it completely messed up his bathroom schedule. So, I dialed it back down to 1.5 kg, which seems to work better for him. His meals are split into two—half in the morning after his walk, and the other half in the evening before his night walk. He currently weighs around 33 kg (72.6 lbs) and is otherwise healthy, active, and energetic with no apparent health issues. Is this typical for a Doberman his age, or should I be making adjustments to his diet or routine? Graphics/art style: 2D, hand-drawn sprites imitating paper cut-outs set on sticks.
The game plays as a side-view castle defence: you hold your castle (made of wood) with a crossbow, and defend against waves of enemies inspired by Monty Python and the Holy Grail: You have knights, with their squires ringing coconuts, and even get sometimes a police car that unloaded four british policemen. You can also call in "the King" to help wipe out the assailants. The soundtrack is mostly songs written from the point of view of the characters, the king even had his own tune when you called his help (sounding something like "I am the King I have a horse, I also have a car, but I can not drive"). The overall ambiance is very silly, and very funny.
