2024.11.29 08:25 mossssagggate Is there a definitive explanation why I feel the most beautiful when I look like a mess?
I've noticed this about myself for a bit now but I always feel like I look the most beautiful in moments when I look a bit messy. I wouldn't say that I feel ugly outside of the usual moments of despising my appearance that comes with being afab and dealing with fluctuating hormones lol, but I'm definitely not conventionally attractive. I'm a good bit overweight (more than just chubby but not morbidly obese yet, although being broke is helping with that lol), I'm average in height for my country, and I've got some mild acne that can flare up with skin picking from time to time. All that to say I'm not what most people think of when they think pretty or beautiful, but I don't usually hate the way I look.
Despite this there are moments when I look in the mirror and I look like a mess, but I just feel beautiful. Some examples: just after a heavy cry with a slightly swollen and red face and eyes; waking up in the middle of the night when the product i use to keep my loose curls neat starts to wear off so some are frizzy, crooked, or flattened, and my makeup is smudged and there's fallout from the eyeshadow and mascara I usually forget to wipe off; or when I'm in loose not particularly flattering pjs/lounge clothes, bare faced and can't quite tell what's freckles and what's acne.
I feel like these are usually the times that people say that they look ugly, but i look in the mirror and I just feel so beautiful and confident, and I can't help but wonder why, is there a scientific or psychological reason why? Does anyone else feel similarly?
TLDR: I feel especially beautiful and confident when I objectively look like a mess. Why? Does anyone else feel this way?

I was told buying online isnt possible as the people in Port-Louis wouldn't let the products be posted to my village. Besides, I can't find websites that would ship to mauritius. So, i was looking for local shops that would sell them as the main sellers only have newer phones in stock. I can't access facebook marketplace for some reason, so that option is crossed out.

I started nicotine smoking cigars once a week. It progressed to every few days and then I moved onto snus and then vapes. Snus turned into cigarettes and I've been volleying between them ever since. Using cigs to quit snus or snus to quit cigs. Playing games with myself.
After 1 year my memory is not the same l, can't think straight and am chronically on edge/ have some sort of anxiety. Never had these before. I don't care what science may say, nicotine definetely messes with cognition. It is simply not healthy for the brain to constantly signal release of dopamine and adrenalin and be in a fight or flight mode multiple times in a day. Explains why I'm always mentally exhausted. I wouldn't be surprised if big tobacco had its dirty hands all over the suppression of studies linking nicotine with declining cognition.
I'm 2 days clean now and feel a bit more energy throughout the day. I'm not going to lie, I love a good cigarette but it's ruining my life and my brain. It has to go.
I wanna know if anyone here feels the same way? Or If anyone feels different share your thoughts.
