Hi all, I've recently purchased an NxtPaper 14, from Amazon UK, and in general am very happy with it. I do find the screen very pleasant and relaxing to work with. The only hardware option I really miss is a high refresh rate, something that is hopefully coming in the "Pro" version of course.
Software wise I am struggling a bit to make it work exactly as I would prefer though. My issues revolve around the NxtPaper button and display modes. The two "special" modes, colour paper and ink paper, both have a fixed warm/ambeyellow light setting, something which I don't really like. There appears to be no way to change this, does anybody know different? I do like the two modes otherwise very much (although I would like an option to switch off the animation and sound which happens when you change modes).
Instead I find myself using the "Reading Mode" option, something accessed from display settings only, not via the hardware button. This is basically a full monochrome mode, with no "eye comfort" warm colouring. This works ok for me for text reading only, although it is a bit of a pain to get to in settings every time, rather than through the hardware button. I would also appreciate a small amount of warm colouring with it, but the eye comfort option is disabled when reading mode is on.
Regarding the "eye comfort" setting, you can set this to your personally preferred warm level, and it would be ideal if the two special NxtPaper modes would respect this setting as well - instead it seems they are hardcoded to maximum yellow light.
In general though, for anybody else interested in getting one of these, I would say they are exceptional value for what you get. It costs me around a quarter of what I paid for my Samsung S9 Ultra, and I much prefer the matte screen experience of the NxtPaper 14. The only things I miss from the Samsung really are the higher refresh rate, and some better accessories (the supplied case is rubbish, and I can't find any third party options, so am just using a generic sleeve and a separate portable tablet stand).

I watch people on youtube trimming, planting, moving and doing all sorts of things to their established tanks, and when they do it, a simple snip removes a neat piece which floats to the surface, and is easy to fish out, or the plant they stick into the substrate stays there and instantly looks like it's been growing there for months, or the plant they think looks better somewhere else just moves over, almost on it's own it looks so effortless.
Meanwhile, I try to snip a bit off, and the plant moves out of the way, so I get a bit of leaf that drifts off into a corner. Eventually, I get the bit of stem I was after - harder and harder to do as it's mostly obscured by the confetti of leaf fragments by now drifting round the tank - and once snipped, it drops down and forms some kind of Gordian Knot with the adjacent plants.
If I try to plant something, it floats up as soon as I pull the tongs back, so I try again with the same result, only with murkier and murkier water since the substrate has been disturbed. Eventually, I get it to stay down, sometimes with the aid of a small pebble to weigh it down, and then stand back to admire the new addition, and it's at such an awkward angle and sprawling out either side of the pebble that it looks less like a plant and more like a Picasso rendition of a forest after a storm.
You'd think that floating plants would be simple enough. But no, not for me. I just had to clear some out as the surface was getting overcrowded. And what do you know, somehow, don't ask me how, I uprooted something...
I don't try to move things anymore. They just don't let go of their neighbours and I end up up-rooting half the tank.
I'm just rubbish at this.

What kind of diode(s) exactly are in the 900? I’m thinking particularly of the mk III, where you can dial the diode clipping in or out with the Gain Sensitivity knob.
Sometimes people say it’s like having a Tube Screamer in the circuit, or a Guv’nor… I can’t read the schematics so I’m curious what it’s most like in terms of design.

Instrument rated private pilot. Currently working towards commercial. Used to get air sick a lot at the beginning of my training. I can tolerate a lot more now, but trying to do maneuvers in bumpy, turbulent weather does mess me up sometimes.
Just curious really if there's any other pilots in the same boat (plane) as me. It's pretty frustrating to still be dealing with air sickness this many hours in.
