2024.11.29 15:47 Omnilatent Looking into a solution for streaming but also access for my PC
So I used to spend like 80% of my free time in front of my PC until one or two years ago and have two 3 TB HDDs in Raid 1 in my system for backup and media.
Now I got a nice TV and read a lot and spend a lot less time on my PC and would like a solution that gives me the following:
- access to all my data (pictures, movies, shows but also install-files for my PC
- ideally in a similar explorer-like interface that also works with a smart TV (got one in which the remote also kinda works like a mouse)
- streaming movies and shows from NAS to my TV. Can either be through network or HDMI/DisplayPort (is one better than the other?). Must be capable of Full HD, ideally also capable of 4K
- Ideally I would like a small form factor solution that is also quiet(er) but I have experience building PCs so I would also be willing to build something into a small form factor case like an ITX or microATX system or something including a Raspberry Pi or alike if this is capable of the above
Two prebuild solutions I looked at were the Synology DS223J (currently 200 bucks here) with 2 slots and the ROUAFWIT N100 (for 320 bucks through a deal) or N305 (for 430) with 4 slots. I also stumbled upon the PcZinophyte NAS for 360€ that looks very nicely. Any of these any good solutions?

Since after it was no longer printed for everyone I don't think I have seen a single QST front page, let alone any of the articles... Is it just me or do you share the same experience?
To be perfectly clear: I have nothing against QST or the ARRL. To the contrary, I really would like both to succeed. I just wonder if their publishing model (a subscribers-only, paper magazine distributed in PDF form) still makes sense in 2024.
