2024.11.29 16:32 HD-MOVIE-SOURCE Dolby Cinema vs IMAX at Wicked Presentation đœïž.
We noticed that they put Wicked up in IMAX at our local Regal. They must have took Gladiator 2 off early. Here's some of the things I noticed from the Dolby presentation to the IMAX viewing.
In Dolby you have better colors, better black levels and the image just looks more dynamic. Plus the image is framed properly to a 2;35,1 aspect ratio which IMAX is not. IMAX takes the 2;35 and basically scales it to the screen. Everything about the image in terms of quality in Dolby is better and it's obvious to see.
The sound is balanced better in Dolby, I mean from a bass, dialog and general balance. Left to right anchoring sound is better and the quality sounds better. The bass is also significantly better than IMAX. One issue all Dolby Cinemas have is their surround sound volume. The balance is way off. I can't even hear anything behind me. This was the same as my Dune 2 presentation, however Dune 2 is not a loud surround movie in all fairness. But Dolby aren't balancing their rear Atmos or surrounds at the correct levels.
So, after all that you'd think Dolby wins right? Let's see....
What IMAX has going for it is its screen size. The quality isn't as good but it simply feels more immersive and for a movie theater experience that's huge. So that's it? Screen size? Yep, it honestly makes such a big difference and I actually prefer the experience vs the higher quality of Dolby. Kinda strange for me to say that, but I look for different things at the movies than I do at home. IMAX wins for me. Now if I could have Dolbys screen but in IMAX screen size, oh that would be something.
The audio is better balanced in Dolby and at home that's huge, but in a Cinema, it's not a big deal. My IMAX only uses a 5.1 system, but the audio is so much louder than in Dolby Cinema. Dolby is so low that I struggle to engage with it. IMAX slaps you around, but you really experience the movie. From the larger screen to the loud audio I get sucked into the film. This is how I watch movies at home, at that type of perceived volume where dialogue is super clear and loud. The bass in IMAX is rolled off compared to Dolby, which is a shame because I live bass. It's fine, but just not deep enough. But, again Dolbys audio is just too low still. So you can't win either way.
In the end, for me, the IMAX presentation for a movie theater is simply better. The larger screen is a big deal and louder sound actually makes the experience more immersive. So my love of movies at the cinema is about connecting to the film, and bigger screens and louder sound achieves this in a far better way. You want total quality? Watch it at home. But, if you want a truly impactful experience, it's IMAX all the way.

I am not being douchey and suggesting you donât work hard regularly. I just meanâŠnobody I know has talked about Black Friday shopping for years or go out and shop.
Is it like a busy Saturday now or is it really still crazy? I worked retail and customer service for years so I never shop on Black Friday or Thanksgiving.

For many in the US, it was Thanksgiving yesterday and while I did celebrate with my family, I also wanted to try calling my two partners who live together. They both know that I do like to call and that theyâre important to me but most of the time they donât feel up for it. The day before Thanksgiving I asked both of them if we could call during the holiday since theyâre family too, however by the time I asked them both if we could call they both told me they werenât feeling up for it. It made me feel disappointed since they both know calling is important to me, especially on holidays, and it made me very sad that even though they apparently didnât feel like calling me theyâll still play multiplayer games and have calls with their friends.
I feel bad for still feeling sad about it the next day, I donât want to be mad at them but I am. Is it wrong that I expect calls sometimes? I even told them both that the calls donât have to be long, just a few minutes and even then they didnât feel up for it.

My former nurse manager at the doctor's office came into our clinic asking for me to give her a flu shot, specifying that it's for work. I was surprised she asked for me because I did not get along with her. We stop at reception to chat so that we can catch up and I learn that she is a manager in charge of the vaccine program at her new facility.
As she's having her vital signs taken, she whispers to me "they made me get it." I said "the flu shot?" She said "no, the covid vaccine." She rolls her sleeve up to reveal a large purple bruise covering the underside of her arm, near her armpit. "Just look at my face." She claws at her face. "Do you see the hives?" I cannot see the hives, so I laugh nervously and leave to get the vaccine.
I come back and close the door behind me as I enter the room. Before I can say anything, she stands up and saunters toward me.
"Okay. Here's what we're gonna do." She snatches the syringe from my hand and for a second I fear that she is going to use the needle on me. As I take a step back, she swivels to face the sink. She holds the vaccine in the sink and I hear it make a shwoosh noise as the liquid squirts into the drain.
She slams it into the sharps container and practically growls at me. "You're gonna sign that paper, I'm gonna leave, and we're never gonna speak about this again!"
At this point, I was concerned for my safety. I stood there in silence as she stormed past me, out of the clinic. Once I was sure she was gone, I immediately called the office manageowner and told them what happened.
The office manager was so shocked I had to repeat what happened 3 times. I did not sign the paper and we voided the vaccine consent. We also filed an incident report and some additional documentation. My manager is compiling everything so that we can report her and inform her current workplace the proper way.

Context I was recently laid off at the start of September 2024. I am still on the payroll (garden leave) until the end of the November. I took a break of one month and started job hunting around the start of October.
Background 28M. Non-EU resident. Live in Berlin. Six years of professional experience as a software engineer. 2 years in home country and 4 years in Germany. A1 German proficiency (sorry!). I was working in an American tech company before being laid off.
Job Search Stats
I have attached a Sankey diagram to show the statistics. Some observation and tips from my experience:-
- I revamped my resume and LinkedIn profile (and set to `open to work`). I properly structured my experience in the previous orgs I have worked at and used few AI tools to make the points more crisp and impactful. I didn't create multiple versions of resume. Only wrote cover letter for companies where I felt there was a great match. But don't think it mattered much.
- I also created account on sites like Honeypot and talent.io but didn't any response on either of them and both the platforms feel dead. Better to not invest time into them.
- Companies are taking a lot to time to reply back. I have had situations where companies reached out 2 weeks after I applied. Each stage of the interview will at least be a week or more apart. Even now, when I am done with interview circuit, I am still receiving emails for scheduling the first meeting.
- After revamping and setting the status to open to work on LinkedIn, I got a lot of attention from recruiters (mostly external/third party ones) with most of them being from UK. I didnât knew there were so many external recruiters from there working for the German market.
- Initially I was worried about the market so I was applying blindly everywhere, even places that I didnât want to join. I received lots of first meeting invites and it became really hard to manage. But it also kinda helped me because I got a lot of practise of talking about myself in the first round with HR and it definitely lessened my nerves and anxiety.
- Unfortunately, my experience with third party/external recruiters wasnât good. They were very flaky and seemed disinterested as soon I was missing even one tech framework in their stack which was ridiculous. Sometimes they would reach out first on LinkedIn and would not even reply after I wrote back. My advice would be to try to use all the buzz words in the job description when talking to them.
- There seems to be a lot of opportunities in climate/sustainability and HR tech and lots of recruiters reached out to me. There are many recently funded startups in that domain who are hiring right now.
- I skipped a lot of the interviews in the middle because they would require me to complete a task home assignment (4-8 hours). If I had already gotten an offer from a different org with similar compensation at that moment or if I was preparing for interviews for some other org, it didnât made much sense to continue further and invest my time in doing those take home assignments.
- The interview process for German orgs was easier than the international/American companies. It was mostly a take home assignment followed by a conversational interview talking about the take home assignment and my previous experience. The process at international org was rigorous, with a total of 5-6 rounds. But the pay at international orgs was significantly higher than German orgs.
- Nowhere in the process I felt my language skills were a hinderance. In fact, I had to decline many interview invites because it got so overwhelming. I even discontinued several ongoing interview processes in the middle after getting offers.
I received a total of 4 signed job offers. Two from German orgs with a TC (total compensation, base + bonus) of 75K and 80K respectively. I was also got 2 offers from international orgs (95K and 100K). I will be accepting the 100K one and starting from January. It is still below my current TC(110K) but I am not too worried about money right now. I am looking for more stability and hoping don't get laid off again. It really plays a lot with the psyche and self esteem.
Final Thoughts The market is really tough right now, no doubts about it. But there are still opportunities for experienced professionals. The interview preparation took a lot out of me. The companies are taking a lot of time and have gotten a lot pickier. When in the Badlands, Militech operates in the same way as the NCPD. So why do many NCPD Scanner missions feature Militech PMCs as the perpetrators?
Militech-branded Chevillion Emperor 620 Ragnars are posted around the area with two Militech PMCs, similar to how in Night City, two NCPD officers will be posted with an Archer Hella EC-H 1860 NCPD Enforcer.
When you get wanted stars in the Badlands, Militech-branded vehicles with Militech PMCs hunt you down. They have the same uniform and titles as Militech PMCs (i.e., Infantry Scout), but their affiliation is changed to NCPD.
Many of the NCPD Scanner missions containing Militech are about stopping illegal border crossings, hunting fugitives, finding escaped prisoners, and stopping smugglersâsome possible criminal activity, like executing the Militech veteran community, which refused to relocate. However, that could be legal as the full authority given to the Militech PMCs is not clearly stated.
The executing of the veteran community is wrong, but if it was their legal right to do so and Militech has the authority to conduct those operations in the Badlands as an extension of the NCPD, then is V interfering with "police" work in those cases?
There is also one NCPD Scanner mission that is in City Center at the large circular NCART station where Militech PMCs guard an area. They are guarding a crime scene; there is a body bag, forensic equipment, and police hologram "tape" around the area. Yet the Militech PMCs are treated as the perpetrators.
If Militech is operating in the Badlands for the NCPD, taking out the Wraiths and trying to secure the border and stop smuggling. Then why are they treated as the perpetrators for what they were hired by the NCPD or Night City to do?
Also, why would Night City hire Militech (a significant supporter of the NUSA armed forces and an NUSA ally) to assist with their border security? That is like hiring the hostile nation next to you to guard your borders against themselves. Militech even sponsors the petition website for Night City to join the NUSA.
One of the missions in the Badlands involves neutralizing unaffiliated Veteran Guards who were enforcing Code 3.138/12: corporate property misappropriation and illegal resale. Yet, the NCPD, have you neutralized these guys and gathered evidence of them doing exactly what they were told to do? Does the NCPD have V steal jobs from the other PMCs they hired? Is V unknowingly being sent by the NCPD to eliminate the other PMCs they hired so that instead of paying a whole squad for a job, they only have to pay V instead? Is V just eliminating her competition in that job market?
Note: I am only on the story mission "Playing For Time" with the objective of Meet with Takemura. Before continuing with the main story, I will complete all the NCPD Scanner, Gigs, Cyberpsychosis, and Side Biz missions.

I don't believe in manifestation as it is presented by the general community. But I have a strong relationship with God/consciousness in which I have received direct teaching about what is. What I've been shown is happening in life, how things come about in our lives, is very similar to the idea of manifestation. It's just that the source is "wrong".. WE do not make things happen, but our higher consciousness does. Our true identity is this full consciousness, but in this life we are in a more limited state of consciousness so that we can have the experience of human life. So, I have been shown that what happens in our lives, what we desire, happens because of what was set in stone to happen at the beginning/creation of time and space - determined by the One consciousness.
Here is how that was shown to me. Before I came to this understanding that manifestation is what our higher consciousness does rather than what "we" (our experience as human) do, I was actively working on manifesting myself. Doing the techniques, learning all the ins and outs.. these things did help me to see where that desire already existed in me. But in the example I will give, I saw that I am not the one bringing this about, but consciousness is. I was shown that our desires are akin to "God's promise" to us of what will manifest in our lives.
My example of why I don't believe in general manifestation comes from when I was trying to manifest a free hotel room for a wedding I was going to. Actually, 2 weddings within a month of each other. I spent from April to June of 2024 doing a variety of techniques, but pretty loosely until a few days before the first wedding. I then employed robotic affirmation for about 2 full days - saying the affirmation once an hour, every hour of the day (since the wedding was in a few days). I reached a point where I burned out on doing the affirmations like that, and then that same night I Had the epiphany of realizing I fully had it. But this came from a revelation that the reason I have it is not because of my affirmations or any technique I used, but because I was destined from the beginning of time to have this desire. That's why we experience desire in the first place. So understanding manifestation as "trying" to manifest anything is POINTLESS, but the techniques are helpful to simply feed your desire to experience this thing, as you get to see that you already what you desire.
What you desire is already a part of you, the consciousness that you are. Your desiring of it is you becoming aware of A PART OF YOU.. your experience of "desiring", is God's indication to you that this thing is coming into your life. Again this "coming into your life" doesn't mean it's NOT a part of you, it just means that what is already in you is awakening to your conscious mind so that you can experience its projection in the physical/external world. But in truth, its physical manifestation doesn't matter.. the physical world is DEAD and EMPTY, its JUST A MIRROR, so when it comes physically, its physical existence WONT make you happy or fulfilled.. the joy you would experience from it, only comes from the fact that it is a MIRROR to this thing already existing inside of your consciousness. So in essence, what we truly desire is not physical things, but self-realization through the mirror of physical things.
"Time is just the enjoyment you get to have of experiencing what you have inside you, coming to you physically."
