In the first movie, we get the reasoning that the goblin formula causes mental instability, but Harry doesnât take it until the third movie. If you look at his behaviors, judgment, and symptoms in the second movie though, heâs sort of all over the place:
- He finances research and experimentation into a theoretical new energy source, and allows that experimentation to take place in the middle of a major metropolitan city. And he does this when even Peter, a college student whose education isnât completed, is able to recognize the possible dangers in the experiment.
- Mood swings in the movie could be attributed to his companyâs financial losses and encountering Spider-man face to face, but they should still be considered.
- Despite the failure and dangers from the first experiment, he bribes Otto with an even larger quantity of the same materials needed and he exercises no oversight on Otto after giving it to him.
- He actively hallucinates Norman despite no supposed exposure to the goblin formula at this point.
- Despite finding all of the weaponry and evidence of Normanâs crimes, including the fact his father was a mass murderer (the attack on the board members during the parade qualifies), he still is unable to reason out what happened. He also saw his fatherâs body, and he couldnât see that the wounds came from the glider like his butler could.
