I'm sure you can, but how? Usually I have no interaction at all with my professors, because I just haven't had a need to. I just do my work. Even if you have a question though and email them, that's not really building a relationship, is it? It feels strange to email them just to talk, so how can you build relationships with them? I want to have the connections and earn those letters of recommendations!

2024.11.29 17:36 Argocap How to get the in-game radio to remember disabled tracks?
I'm using the Major Marches mod, which is great for flavour. Problem is, some of the songs have audio crackles and pops so I want to disable them. But then I have to do the same thing next time I load the game.
The funny thing is, it remembers my disabling one song. So it's possible. I'm playing Italy, and have disabled L'ingelsina. Which it remembers, but it doesn't remember anything else I've disabled when I load the game the next time.

2024.11.29 17:36 Ok_Giraffe8865 IRA Provides More for Corporations than People
In another /energy post there was a discussion about Biden's IRA relating to the transition to alternate energy, I commented that a large part of the IRA was a corporate give away. Several people commented negatively and ask how I could say this, but my response and details about why I believe this were blocked, and I was blocked from reading or commenting on the post, so obviously to these other users that asked questions, I appeared to be a bot or crackpot, not a real person with real concerns. So I'm trying here to present my concerns with the IRA, and I am open to honest thoughtful discussion, hopefully not blocked based on differing opinions.
I agree that not all of the IRA is a corporate give away, but some big items are. I see many carrots for the people and the cause (reduced pollution), and huge corporate give aways that contradict or do little for the cause.
Example. Oil and gas industry gets $180 a ton for carbon capture, which is pumped back into the ground and sometimes used to extract new oil and gas, it's also very dubious storage (storing gas in fraked ground!). On the people side a PV system by a person gets 30% credit, both look good until you do some math. My 4.7 kw PV system would get about $4,000 credit, and over a resonable life span of 30 years it would reduce carbon emissions by 189 tons, this is based on 16 years of my real PV data. 189 tons carbon captured by the oil and gas industry would receive IRA credits of $33,000. So for the same carbon reduction, corporate gets $33,000 and an individual gets $4,000. Big money for corporations, carrots for the people, inefficiency for the environment.
Example. EV tax credit of $7,500 has many income, tax liability, and built in the USA restrictions such that few vehicles or people qualify for the whole amount. If this was about reducing emissions why? Then there is the lease loophole that allows everyone to get $7,500, no restrictions at all. If this was about reducing emissions why? A corporate give away to the financial industry making money from leasing, carrots to the people, and not much for the environment.

hello! im going to be working with eva foam for the first time, which is going to include stuff like contact cement, which ive never worked with before. i know people typically recommend working with stuff with potential toxic fumes either outside or a place with high ventilation, but it's pretty cold outside where I live, and I don't know if the temperature would affect the foam/contact cement in an undesirable way. has anyone here worked with contact cement during cold weather before, and how did it change your process, if at all?

2024.11.29 17:36 troubled_pans Is this off-exchange plan ACA-compliant? Do I forgo any protections with it?
My local BCBS (Independence Blue Cross) offers some of their individual health insurance plans only on the state marketplace, some only directly from the company, and some both. (Overview, page numbers 12-13.)
After extensive spreadsheeting, it appears that one of the plans that's only available off-exchange (Personal Choice PPO Silver Basic) would be best for me. But I can't seem to find out whether going off-exchange means forfeiting any rights or protections compared to on-exchange.
I know that not all plans that are sold off-exchange are ACA compliant. But presumably some of them are. I think this one might be - but how can I be sure?
Some things I've checked in the big plan description:
- It doesn't say it's not ACA-compliant (but also doesn't explicitly say that it is).
- It is a "Individual Comprehensive Major Medical Preferred Provider Policy", which sounds like good words?
- I used a difference-highlighting tool to compare the booklet to another plan of theirs that's offered on-exchange, and aside from the expected deductible, coinsurance, and copay differences, the only differences I found were (a) Less abortion coverage in the on-exchange plan due to a state law that prohibits on-exchange plans from covering it, and (b) Some additional language in the on-exchange plan about premium payment grace periods if you're receiving assistance. This makes me think the off-exchange plan is just as good - but are there laws/protections that are outside of the plan description that apply only to plans gotten through the marketplace?
(I do know that going off-exchange means forgoing the premium tax credit, which I'm not eligible for anyway.)
