Longtime lurker here, so I’m not sure if this is the right sub for this, but I need some advice or perspective. Kinda lengthy.
In simple terms, my wife’s mom has always been described to me as emotionally and mentally abusive. Narcissistic, even. This started to come out about midway into our relationship. Back when we were dating, there were times when I’d pick my wife up from her house, and she’d just break down in tears but wouldn’t tell me why. Other days, she’d give me the cold shoulder without an explanation. I stupidly assumed she might be cheating on me and went through her phone out of frustration, only to find out she had been venting about her mother, and rightfully so.
After that, I backed off and gave her space until one day, she finally opened up to me. She broke it all down and even showed me her diaries detailing what she’d gone through with her mom. It was horrifying, distasteful, disappointing, and heartbreaking. I couldn’t believe she grew up in that kind of environment. I despise the way her mom treated her and her siblings emotionally, mentally, and sometimes physically. When I brought this up to my wife, her older brother overheard and took my MIL’s side, saying I don’t know what I was talking about (I did) and it almost got physical between us. I didn’t want to risk my wife getting in trouble so I let it go as her brother used to physically abuse my wife with their mom’s approval.
When we announced our engagement, the hatred from my MIL and her brother was so obvious. Her mom nitpicked every detail of our relationship (that she hardly knew about), claiming my wife wouldn’t be able to handle marriage, and insulted her openly in front of me. Of course, I defended my wife, but she just tapped me and said, “It’s okay, don’t worry about it, they’re just like that. Don’t bother.” She smiled at me with tears in her eyes. I said, hell no.
Before we got married, I told her I wasn’t going to allow this kind of treatment. We argued about it, and I admit I came off a little controlling, but I genuinely believed it was for her own good and I still do. I told her that once we were married, she’d need to cut her mom off completely and anyone who sided with her mom would have to go too. My wife was hesitant at first but eventually agreed. I assured her that her mom wasn’t going to change anytime soon. After knowing her for 3.5 years at the time, I was confident of that.
The day after we got married, we changed our phone numbers and deleted all our social media. My wife had been keeping in touch with her sister since they were close, but even that had to stop because her sister kept reporting back to their mom, calling my wife selfish for cutting contact. Eventually, we sold our place and moved to a new state.
About a year later, they found my number online and texted me. The message basically accused me of forcing my wife to ghost them (I did), being controlling (debatable), and having no right to keep them out of our lives (maybe). They even said my wife would see through me and leave (highly doubtful but maybe). I changed my number again and moved on. This was about 5 years ago.
A few weeks ago, my wife got an email from her brother saying the family wants to apologize and visit us for Thanksgiving. She told me about it and said she was considering giving them a chance since so much time had passed. I immediately told her no. I said this is just another attempt to creep back into her life and regain control, especially now that we have kids (they don’t know about them). She somewhat agreed then started falling back into old habits like being distant, giving me the cold shoulder, and not being as talkative as usual. This is normal for us and I understand why; it’s a tough situation for her.
I’ve tried to express to her that while I sympathize and see where she’s coming from, this feels like an emotional manipulation tactic. The holidays are the perfect time to pull at her heartstrings. I told her she can’t make a decision based on emotions alone, and since then, she’s been really upset. Usually, we work through things after a few days, but this time feels different. For the first time, I honestly feel like she might budge and let them back in.
It wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me if she did, but I hate them. I can’t stand the idea of letting that toxicity back into our lives especially hers.. the insults, the manipulation, the arguments about how and why I made her cut them off. On top of that, I know my MIL will try to control our kids too when she finds out about them.
All in all, I’m glad I took my wife away from them, and I don’t regret it. She’s a very forgiving, sweet person, but I’m at a loss here. How do I navigate this without it getting ugly? Or before things go left?

 | I run across this often, and have never been able to figure out what causes this build up to occur. I always see it on a recirculating line and when someone has a water softener. As you can see in the pictures, there no hole in the ball valve under the build up. Some spots are wet, but nothing is leaking. The mineral build up is not salt. Does anyone know what causes that? As a lot of people, I'm having this annoying popping/cracking audio issue (on both 4K Utility and OBS) with my Elgato HD60 X. Following are things that I've already tried:
- Cables changing (both USB-C to USB-A changed with a USB-C to USB-C 3.2 Gen2x2 with a transfer speed of 20Gbps and 2.1 HDMI, only for the Output since for Input I'm still using the PS5 one. I've tried also to connect my Nintendo Switch, thinking that PS5 could be the problem; of course, it wasn't). - 4K Utility updating (1.7.14 10283) ; HD60 X Firmware update ( 23.04.26 MCU 23.04.25) - BIOS update. Motherboard Audio Drivers update. VGA Drivers update. - Tried every USB port. - Disconnected every other USB Cable thinking of an overcharge.
I also attach my PC Specs:
Windows 11 Home 64-bit AMD Ryzen 7 7700 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 5200MHz (2x16) ASUS PRIME X670-P WIFI (AM5) 8 GB ZOTAC GAMING GEFORCE RTX 4060 Ti
One interesting thing about some tests on OBS is that if I add an Input Audio Source (selecting Elgato HD60 X) it sounds good; it starts to crack/pop when I add also the Video Source.

FTB just had a level 2 survey done on a ground floor flat which is part of a mansion block built in the early 1900’s in London. The survey had lots of things to repair urgently which was alarming but wanted to check if there are any really big red flags or is this just to expected?. It is share of freehold and here’s a summary of the key points:
Key Concerns:
- External Walls: The external walls are in poor condition, with cracking and deterioration. This could lead to moisture penetration and other issues.
- Windows: The windows are old and in need of repair or replacement. Some have cracked panes or misted panels, which can affect energy efficiency and security.
- External Doors: The main entrance door is in poor condition, with significant signs of aging and timber rot. It also lacks safety glass, posing a potential hazard.
- Ceilings: The ceilings show signs of deterioration, with cracking and paint peeling. This is likely due to the age of the property and lack of proper lintels.
- Floors: The floors are uneven in places, and there's a risk of hidden defects beneath the floor coverings.

Okay so I'm not fully catch up with the manga, but I know that he loses Turbo Granny's power as he got both his balls back. I also know the he does retain some of that strength and speed and can even be in Empty Space, so clearly he has something.
So I gotta ask, how long do you think Turboless Okarun (I guess since he doesn't have the powers, he should be called Okawalk now lol) saga will last. How useful is he because of it??
Idk, it was a question that I was thinking about. I've seen an article saying how they just axed his powers and I'm like "Well duh, that's kinda what happens when your end of the deal is made? Give him his balls back and Turbo Granny gets her powers back, done and dusted", but it made me think how are they handling it in the series? As I don't see Tatsu axing away his powers, but something has to come up from this.
It's bad when characters in shonen are pushed away to the side lines due to power creep, so it'll be very jarring to see one of the main characters in that fate.
