2024.11.29 18:51 Vegetable-Chard-6927 How do you handle people who throw around lies and say, “you can’t handle other opinions”?
I’ve been encountering this a lot lately when trying to have civil conversations with conservatives. The usually response I get from them, is that “we agree to disagree” or “you liberals can’t handle people with different opinions.”
However, what happens then they aren’t stating opinions but lies? People who are into election denialism, who do not believe in science, or even when their opinions are just racists/sexist/homophonic/transphobic?
I can see if we both disagree on how to spend the budget but when you deny that climate change is real? Or that the US is a christian nation even though we have separation of church and state in the constitution?
It’s easy to say, I don’t engage and I can’t talk with you. But isn’t that also how we got into this political mess? I don’t know what to do anymore.

Hi All,
I am looking for feedback and what others would do in my (34M) regarding a partnefriendship to see if it is even worth pursuing either. I met a woman through work. I am in sales, and she is one of my contacts that I work with. Yeah, don't shit where you eat, but I'm not getting any younger so what's the worst that can happen LOL!
Long story short, it turns out we have a lot of things in common and she has a lot of the qualities that I would see in a future partner. Because of this, we had a first date and I thought it went very well, with which I ended the conversation by getting her number and asking if she would like to go on a second date. She seemed upbeat with answering that she would like to. Nothing was set in stone so I called her regarding going to the a local botanical garden to see some beautiful Christmas lights and have a casual walk through it. She agreed to that about 2 weeks ago. With me thinking things are progressing, I invited her to a Christmas market with my family in the middle of December. She also seemed more than happy to tag along, even with my family being there.
I have to make a note that she is a mother of one that has went through a lot of life changes so I got the emotionally unavailable text about a week ago. I am assuming she recognized that she has to get her life back on track before making true commitments to someone. Completely understandable as dating is not possible unless you are ready for a relationship. I can fully accept that and she made note that she would still like to hang out when she has free time as friends, so the plan was still to go to the botanical gardens together and I am taking a massive step back in my approach and accepting the friendship as I think she is worthwhile.
Here's where the problem comes in. This is about the second or third time that when the plans come closer, I get the "I'll let you know" text. Then I never hear back from her unless I re-start the conversation and ask again. Today was supposed to be the day that we are going to see the Christmas lights, and I still don't have a finite answer. With her having a child, I would never expect to be a top priority, but I do ask for common courtesy and to just let me know if you are unable to hang out.
If you were in my shoes, would you even bother trying to make a friendship work? I've known her for about 2 months now. I appreciate the feedback!

So we pulled the trigger & got it done. Cost a little over 2x a roof made with asphalt shingles but on a per annum basis, it turns out to be cheaper (assuming a lifetime of 50 years versus 15)
We love the look! As the title says, the tiles are the stone coated slate+ product from MetStar. They were installed directly onto the old roof, with a membrane in between.
ps: gutter replacements is happening now
