My mom set me up for a surprise dental cleaning appointment tomorrow, and I’m scared they might find something and force me into a procedure.
I understand they’re important, but I hate that my mom surprised me with an appointment (she did this last time) and I’m currently working a part time job and I’m in a competitive graduate program, so it’s not that simple for me to drop everything and get oral surgery. I’m worried that they won’t find it as a “good excuse” or they won’t understand.
If they find something how can I refuse without making it sound like I’m making silly excuses?

Hi!
I’m really new to this forum, if I break any rules I do apologise, and I’m on my mobile phone so I apologise for the formatting!
Now to it!
Okay so I just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro 2021 M1 Pro 16GB RAM 1TB SSD and I have some questions after getting it

  1. It’s at 87% battery health with 106 cycles, should I be concerned?
  2. Will the 16GB RAM be enough for me to help make it last 3-4 years? It’ll mostly be web work, some notion some photoshop some illustrator and maybe a little premiere pro but not a lot. Docs Chrome and Numbers will be the primary use case.
  3. The brick I got with it is 140W. It looks original enough but how do I confirm if it is?
  4. What kind of tests should I be doing on the device to make sure it’s good enough to keep and not return?
Yeah that’s about it. I’d love it if someone could help guide me a bit?

2024.11.29 18:30 ChattyMatrix Daytona 2 on Supermodel 3 emulator with wheel = arcade heaven

If any of you love old school arcade racing and haven't tried Daytona 2 at home with your wheels, you're seriously missing out. I've been obsessed with this game for years now and almost exclusively keep a wheel at home to scratch that Daytona 2 itch I get randomly.
Also have to add the new Logitech Pro wheel I just got is amazing compared to the T300rs I've been using for years. This is the old school arcade wheel feeling I remember. Not to knock the T300Rs, it's a great wheel and I never even increased the ffb setting on it. Anyway if anyone needs help setting up Supermodel 3 let me know!

2024.11.29 18:30 Let047 What Is Dynamic Dispatch and Why It Matters

In Java, any non-static call is a dynamic dispatch call, meaning the JVM decides at runtime which method to execute. While this is a core feature of the JVM, I’ve found that the overhead is actually significant.
In fact, by removing dynamic dispatch in my experiments, I observed an average 5% speedup in real-world applications. That’s equivalent to gaining half a CPU generation in performance.
I’ve been exploring the implications of this problem and am working on a new solution that I’m sharing in a series of posts. The first post explains the issue in detail and sets the stage for my benchmarks and proposed optimization in later parts.
