She dumped me 5 months ago after 5 years together. It was my fault (long story short: I have been too depressed for a long time, not moving forward with my life, and she got tired of waiting for me). I've had an awful time these last few months, realizing just how much I screwed up by letting our relationship fall apart and how empty my life is without her. We've stayed in contact since then over text, mostly with superficial chats, but I have embarrassed myself a few times by breaking down and telling her how much I've been hurting and how much I miss her. I know she has moved on to the point of sleeping with other people, which absolutely kills me.
I have been dreading Thanksgiving/Christmas because it's the first holiday season since 2018 that I won't be spending with her and her family (I love her family too). The day before Thanksgiving, she calls me out of the blue, crying. She was supposed to fly out to see her family, but she had such a bad panic attack at the airport that she didn't get on the plane and she asked me if I'd come get her and take her home. Of course I jumped in the car, picked her up, took her home, stayed with her for a while until she calmed down, and I went home.
I didn't hesitate to help her, and I don't regret helping her, but of course this ended up messing with my head. It was only the 2nd time I've seen her in person since the breakup. On the one hand, it's nice to know I am still the person she reached out to for help and I like comforting her and being able to show her that I care. On the other hand, I can't help but have a lot of bitter thoughts, thinking to myself "why didn't she call whatever guy she has been seeing?" and thinking how much it sucks to be her emergency call in a crisis but I'm not the person she comes to anymore when she's lonely or horny or just wants to hang out with someone. I sat there on her couch with her, silently torturing myself with visions of her and some unknown man being intimate in that same location.
A small part of me wants to hope that after this experience, she's maybe going to reconsider some things and think it was meaningful that she wanted me to be with her in her time of need. Realistically, now that the ordeal is over, she will probably go back to just texting superficially with me and when she wants male company, she'll go back to seeing whoever it is that she has been seeing lately, moving on from me more and more, and I will not see her again for the forseeable future. I was not remotely close to getting over her before this happened, but this isn't going to help at all.

Through LinkedIn, I pursued an offer from a company called Transcepta, which seem to be offering a position that lined up pretty well with my skills.

(I got temporary paper license until I receive the new one), which might take a while to receive new Drivers license since the Canada post strike. ( I tried uploading my old licence but the app doesn't like it since its expired) I dont really feel comftarble uploading my passport.

2024.11.29 19:30 SarahEL17 AIO: After having this exchange with my uncle on Thanksgiving, I don’t want to go to Christmas Eve dinner at his and my aunt’s house
 | So, I didn’t realize my uncle was MAGA until last night. He never got into politics with me in the conversation before this, and I didn’t enjoy it. I’m sure everyone here has different views and I’m not asking if I overreacted to the political conversation itself, but it does lead down a certain path that just makes me want to skip out on Christmas Eve dinner which we always do at their house. For some backstory, my aunt (not his wife but another aunt) and I were talking and he walked over from watching the football game and started talking to us about a number of things. I think he started off by saying he listened to Jelly Roll on Joe Rogan and how that tied in with part of our conversation, but then he said that he gets his most of his news from podcasts now. At some point he brought up Ukraine and asked if we should really be sending them as much money as we are. I’ve heard and read a lot about what we actually send Ukraine and started by saying that we don’t actually send as much money as it seems. Before I could explain that the majority is old military equipment which then gets replaced by American manufacturers (thereby going back into our own economy), he cut me off and said, “I think you’re misinformed.” He could tell I wasn’t happy with what he said and how abruptly he said it so after the conversation continued and him asking a few times for me to explain, I did. I don’t know why I stuck around. I guess I just didn’t know how to break from the conversation without seeming upset. But then he brought up abortion. I explained that multiple women had died from not receiving the care they needed. I explained that from what I read all of those women were younger than I am and that they didn’t have any conditions beforehand like endometriosis which I do. I told him that Virginia, where we live, is the only southern state that doesn’t have an abortion ban (or very strict restrictions if not a ban, I’ll have to double check that), but it’s not for a lack of our governor trying and if we get enough legislators like him, it is possible. He responded by asking if it’s right that millions of babies have been killed. I asked him if two wrongs make a right. And then he said, “I just don’t know what Jesus would say about this.” At that point, I just gave up and said, “You know, you’re right. I bet Jesus would have me bleeding out in a parking lot. I bet Jesus doesn’t value my life like that,” and said I needed to get my shoes before coming back for my leftovers. I cried when I went to the empty mudroom. It was only for a few moments, but I did cry. Then, I went back and everyone acted like nothing happened, with my uncle even saying he’d like for me to come over more and that he’d like to call. I said sure. I just wanted to get out of there, so. As for the tariffs link, that was in reference to what something I expressed concern about that he dismissed before. I work for a company that is headquartered in the UK and we receive containers from goods that are manufactured by our company, but again, manufactured in the UK. He had said that the Uk is highly favored so they shouldn’t be affected. Obviously, he didn’t read the link as that said the UK will definitely be affected. Likely, he forgot about me working for a UK company too since he thought I still worked at A.C. Moore which went out of business not long after I left five years ago.
