2024.11.29 19:21 Positive_Tell_8222 Post-thanksgiving blues

Is it just me, or when thanksgiving is over I get incredibly sad? As excited as I am for christmas, it just doesn't feel the same anymore, I love thanksgiving with all my heart and it's always such a fun day with family that I get sad seeing it end. Something about this holiday really feels special šŸ§” and it saddens me that it's over

2024.11.29 19:21 pilotjunkie Battery Draw

Hello Reddit Mechs. Posting here because Iā€™m at a loss. Both my wife and I Have GMC Sierra. Recently her 1500 has had some weird electrical issues(horn sounded weird, display says to open and close drivers window, no sound signals inside the cabin like turn signal our park assist, etc. itā€™s worth noting that these issues were intermittent and did not all happen at the same time) so about a week ago the truck wouldnā€™t start due to a dead battery. I replaced the battery with a new one, but the next day the truck again wouldnā€™t start. I tested for parasitic draw and found that the voltmeter read 12.5V across the terminal and the battery connector, so naturally I started pulling the fuses but none were blown and didnā€™t drop the voltage or amps. I then went to the positive distributor and started disconnecting those and hereā€™s where Iā€™m at a loss: with EVERYTHING disconnected from the distributor except the battery I would get 0V, but if I connect any of the wires back (starter, accessories, etc didnā€™t matter which one) to the distributor with the exemption of the alternator wire that 12.5V comes back.

2024.11.29 19:21 Huge_Line4009 What They Donā€™t Want You to Know About VPNs in 2024

Letā€™s face itā€”VPNs are the superheroes of online privacy, right? They swoop in, shield our IPs, and let us binge-watch shows from literally any country. But here's the deal: not everything is as perfect as it seems. šŸ¤” While VPNs are incredible tools, thereā€™s a ton of stuff the industry doesnā€™t openly advertiseā€”and you need to know about it. Letā€™s peel back the curtain and reveal what they donā€™t want you to know about VPNs in 2024. šŸ‘€
1. Not All VPNs Are Created Equal āŒ Weā€™ve all seen the ads: "Military-grade encryption!" "Zero-logs policy!" "100% anonymous!"
Sounds great, but hereā€™s the truth: many VPNs overpromise and underdeliver. Some "free" or even premium VPNs have shady practices, like collecting your data, logging your activity, or even selling your information to third parties (yes, that includes ad networks and sometimes governments!). šŸ•µļøā€ā™€ļø

2. Free VPNs Arenā€™t Really Free šŸ’ø Who doesnā€™t love free stuff? But when it comes to VPNs, the old saying holds true: "If youā€™re not paying for the product, you are the product."
Free VPNs often make money by:
This means youā€™re basically trading your privacy for convenience. Is it worth it? Probably not.
3. VPNs Alone Wonā€™t Make You 100% Anonymous šŸ™…ā€ā™‚ļø Letā€™s clear this up: a VPN is not a magical invisibility cloak. šŸ§™ Itā€™s just one tool in your privacy toolkit. Sure, it hides your IP address and encrypts your connection, but it doesnā€™t protect you from:
For true privacy, combine your VPN with:
4. Speed Can Be an Issueā€”Even with Paid VPNs šŸ¢ Weā€™ve all been there. You connect to your VPN, and suddenly your internet feels like itā€™s from 2002. šŸŽļø ā†’ šŸŒ Why? Because:
  1. Encryption takes time.
  2. Server location mattersā€”further = slower.
  3. Overloaded servers can choke speeds.
5. Many VPNs Are Based in Sketchy Jurisdictions šŸŒ Did you know your VPNā€™s HQ location can impact your privacy? If itā€™s in a country with invasive surveillance laws (like the 5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, or 14 Eyes alliances), your data might be vulnerable to government requests.
For example:
6. Some VPNs Are Owned by Advertising Companies šŸ‘€ This oneā€™s a real kicker. Did you know a lot of "popular" VPNs are owned by the same giant corporations that profit off your data? šŸ¤Æ Itā€™s no coincidence that some VPNs quietly gather metadata while claiming theyā€™re keeping you secure.
7. Some Streaming Services Are Winning the VPN War šŸŽ„ Love unlocking Netflix libraries around the globe? Well, brace yourself: streaming platforms are cracking down. In 2024, many are using advanced detection techniques to block VPNs. Sometimes, even big names like ExpressVPN or NordVPN struggle to bypass restrictions.
8. The VPN Market Is Flooded With Fake Reviews šŸ§ A quick Google search for "Best VPN in 2024" will give you hundreds of results. But how many of those reviews are legit? Spoiler: Not many.
Many VPN "review sites" are paid affiliates. They get a commission for every user who signs up through their links. While this isnā€™t inherently bad, it can lead to biased rankings.
So, Should You Still Use a VPN? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Absolutelyā€”if you pick the right one. šŸ›”ļø A good VPN can:
Just remember: Do your research, use additional privacy tools, and donā€™t fall for flashy marketing claims.
TL;DR šŸ“
  1. Not all VPNs are trustworthyā€”always dig into their policies and audits.
  2. Free VPNs = privacy risks.
  3. Combine VPNs with other tools for true anonymity.
  4. Watch out for slow speeds, bad jurisdictions, and sketchy ownership.
  5. Donā€™t trust overly glowing reviewsā€”go to unbiased communities for advice.
Whatā€™s your go-to VPN in 2024? šŸ¤” Have any horror stories or hidden gems to share? Letā€™s talk about it in the comments below! šŸ‘‡

2024.11.29 19:21 linuxluser Recommendations For GTD Setup and Workflows In Logseq Specifically

I am experimenting with Logseq as I just found out you can sync using syncthing. So I may switch to it.
The only thing that's throwing me a bit is that Logseq is link-based, not hierarchy based. So I'm trying to just figure out where to put things and I'd really like to know others' experiences and what works for them.
What I am doing right now is basically this: https://facedragons.com/productivity/gtd-in-logseq/
But where do I put next actions that are stand-alone? It seems that many people use the "Journal" to put down TODOs. But that feels a bit weird. I was going to just make a page called "Stand-Alone Actions" or something and park them there.
Any advise for a Logseq noob?

2024.11.29 19:21 WhiskeyAndNoodles I'm doing a cover and I can play the whole song, but there's one part that's too fast for me. Can I slow down the whole track to lay that part down without changing the sound of the guitar when I speed it back up?

The rest of the song is recorded in time and it's fine, but there's a middle section that's too fast for me. Any way I can slow things down, lay thay part down, and have the guitar keep the same tuning and sound as the rest of the track when I speed it back up?
