As a cis-gender woman in her earlier 30s in NYC, I found the entire series to be very cringeworthy, especially the main character, Carrie. Maybe the show is just very dated but Carrie as an archetype comes across as a wounded woman who is in a teenager's body. She doesn't seem to grow at all as a woman in developing greater self-confidence in herself and her view of men and relationships/friendships nor develops greater or healthier charactepersonality traits. The general theme seems to tell women that to complete themselves they must find love in another and Mr. Big being a flawed "tall, dark handsome" white knight. In real life, women and men can navigate many issues in relationships and dating with both parties having high levels of emotional intelligence and both parties being able to communicate - something the show doesn't necessarily highlight. Instead, it shows very flawed and toxic dating....which as a New Yorker and conventionally attractive person I would say, I have not experienced dating or relationships the way they portray it. It also paints NYC as a fairytale land....which it defintely is not. I know this is a series and not real life at all, but for it to be SUCH a famous series I honestly expected more. Friends for example, I can see why it was so popular, this not so much. I also understand in the 90s, women and sex maybe was not such a open thing to talk about and this show helped women express themselves...

She has 6 dogs all locked in cages in a rural area of the United States, and there is no animal control in the area. I'm not sure how legal it is and my girlfriend and her grandmother are being forced to care for them and it's very inhumane for the animals. They never leave they're cages and get food/water once a day and the feces is cleaned out once a day too. I just need to know how to go about this because my girlfriend is very tired of this and so are the grandparents, she says she wants to just leave them after we move out together but that is cruel to the dogs and grandparents. How should I go about this

2024.11.29 21:55 Tricky_Helicopter_36 Modem only running 1 device at a time.

Picked up a new modem today due to the modem not splitting signal on router or switch. This makes no sense to me. Any singular device i plug into the modem works. When I run the modem to a router or switch, nothing happens, non of the devices down stream from the router or switch have signal. I have not changed any configurations or settings. Everything is set for automatic connection and should be plug and play. I'm at a loss. I've made sure all cables are cat5 or cat6 tested individual legs of the lan. Super stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm 16 and I have been "homeschooled" for my entire life because my mom said that school was really dangerous and that they brainwash you (she was also very religious) I was only homeschooled until about 3rd grade then I started being unschooled, which I thought was great when I was younger but now that I am older I see how bad it was for me, I have never had any friends and I rarely ever leave the house because my mom is extremely paranoid and always talks about how the world is so dangerous and stuff so that caused me to always be really paranoid and now I have little to no education, no social skills and horrible social anxiety and even just the thought of getting a job terrifies me, and I've been really depressed about it because I feel like I missed out on everything kids my age normally do and I'm skipping straight to the boring part of life, I've tried on several occasions to make myself learn but I have adhd so I can never focus or pay attention so I never end up learning anything and I have talked to my mom about getting medication for it but she says that it will mess up my head, whatever that means. I don't know how the world works and I feel so lonely and awful and every time I think about my past or my future I just cry, I have no childhood to even speak of. I want friends but even if I had some I would always be too scared to talk or do anything and I don't want this post to get dark but I don't really have a reason to live and I've thought about commiting several times, I'm so scared of everything and I've just been sitting in my room for the past 5 years wasting my life on social media, and there isn't even anything to do near where I live because I live way out in the country. I just feel so alone and I need help, is it possible for my life to turn around? to get over my social anxiety, to make friends, to even get a job? idk I just wish I had something worth living for.

Hi all! Sorry for the simple, potentially repetitive, question - I have done some of my own research, and I searched past posts and didn't see what I was looking for.
Basically, I had a cat sitter come to care for my cats and she got locked out of my back door. The fault is shared; she didn't take her keys, but I also forgot to tell her the back door locks automatically (because I didn't think she'd be going out the back). In trying to get back in, she broke the lock on my back door, and my landlord is making me contact a locksmith, set up repair, and pay for it.
I will pay to fix it, but the first locksmith I contacted quoted me 300 at the minimum (I suspect it would end up more like 500), and I've already poured so much money into cat-related things, so I'd love to at least know if I have any other options.
So the question: Does anyone have a locksmith they'd recommend who could potentially fix/replace this lock for a cheaper price?

I have a 4 year old shihtzu lhasa apso mix that has been having issues with itching and paw licking for years. We've taken him to the vet over the years and they've given him Cytopoint injection and Apoquel amongst other treatments. We even tried the vets recommendation of doing a prescription or specialty diet that we tried for a few months and still no changes. So ultimately our vet said they have exhausted all possible courses of treatment on their end and reccomended us to take our dog to a dermatologist. She reccomended the Animal Dermatology Clinic on 5610 Kearny Mesa Rd suite b-1, San Diego, CA 92111. I looked the clinic up online and they seem to have fairly good reviews. But upon calling to make an appointment for a consultation they don't have availability till Feb. 2025. For other pet parents who's pets may also have dermatolgical issues, are there any other clinics you would reccomend for us? I want to be able to have a few options before we book an appointment because it can be expensive. Thank you.
