2024.11.30 00:36 Funny-Masterpiece-32 How can I have a closer relationship with God as a new Christian?
Apologies if this is a long post. I'm new to Christianity, and over the past year and a half I've been exploring my faith and have a deep longing for a relationship with Christ. I want nothing more than to dedicate my life to following Jesus and living a life that would make him and God happy to repay him for the grace and mercy that none of us deserve. As a recovering addict I've asked for forgiveness and accepted that I'm a broken person, and I know 100% that God is the only one thing that will ever make me truly happy or fill this huge void in my life. I realise I'm a broken person and having a fulfilling relationship with Christ is absolutely the number one most important thing in my life.
However, I have so much trouble connecting with God; I avoid prayer because my logic brain tells me that it's pointless and I'm talking to someone who isn't there and it isn't going to make any real difference in my life. So my prayer life is barren and I just feel like I'm not able to connect with God in the way that I desperately want to. I believe that Jesus died for our sins and I understand logically how unbelievably incredible that is, but my heart just doesn't understand the magnitude of this or want to full surrender to him. I struggle so much with this but it's the only thing that I truly want in life. I do bible study, attend church but I just feel like I'm missing something and I don't know what it is. It's like I'm so desperate for this connection with him, and I know he wants me to come to him, but I am just so lost that I just can't grasp how Jesus could love someone like me that much and I don't know what to do. When I pray, I don't pray for material things or things that I want for my life, I only pray for a better relationship with God because that's the only thing I want for myself right now. Does anyone have any advice or similar experiences they could share with me?

37-year-old white male from eastern United States. 6 foot tall 225 pounds. Daily medicine includes allopurinol and Lexapro.
Rash again, 5 to 7 days ago. Does not itch is not spreading and does not hurt unless touched.
Originally suspected poison oak or poison ivy, but I have never had a reaction to that before, and I’ve been around it my whole life.
I have had cold/flu like symptoms that were mild and began one or two days after rash occur. No fever, but I did have body aches, cold symptoms, and my eyes burn really bad. Symptoms are mild.
