I currently final year Cse student. Initialy I prepared for placement then my friend told me to choose one domain and spent time to proficient at this. Then I choose data science I started learning those around 2 months then I applied for intern at online I can't any one of those then I attend some placement I can't crack one of those. My wife and I decided tonight that we are going to try to watch Woody's movies every Sunday starting from the beginning and trying to do it chronologically. Hi! I'm a sophomore undergraduate student at a liberal arts college, who's majoring in mathematics and computer science and looking for some honest feedback about my chances regarding REU applications this cycle.
For context: I co-authored a paper with a wonderful professor and mentor, based in the Boston/Cambridge area, this past summer, and we recently got news of it's acceptance to a Q1 journal. Additionally, I'm assisting in the development of mathematical models for projects in both economics and cellular biology under the supervision of a professor and graduate student respectively.
Research is easily my passion, so I'm extremely grateful for these opportunities, and enjoying every second. Outside of these jobs, I'm working on a few original results, initially as hobbies, (pure math - combinatorics) that a few professors believe could turn into papers with proper mentorship.
My grades are a where I have significant concern. I had an unexpected medical emergency that took a significant hit on my spring semester last year, leaving my GPA quite undesirable. I'm working to do well in all my classes from here on out, and also need to support myself financially.
While I'm confident that I can bounce back with time, the deadlines will be past before spring grades are out. I appreciate the honest and blunt feedback reddit provides, and would love to hear any thoughts people might have. Thank you for your time!

I recently heard that trade entries are up about 16% as of late. With the cost of postsecondary ed, continuing to go up, is it possible we will see a glut of people entering trade fields? Much like how some degree fields have experienced saturation. I hear from some that trades are "hurting for people", but I often wonder how much of that is just alarmism/exaggeration.
