2024.11.30 04:40 currentlyengaged Staining of sidewalls

Recently I've developed staining on the sidewalls of some of my nails, which I've never experienced before.
I do have dermatitis, dry skin, and my nail plates separate at the free edge because I'm very hard on my hands.
The only new products that I've introduced were OPI Repair Mode and Mavala Nail Shield duo.
Any ideas or solutions or treatments that you'd recommend?

2024.11.30 04:40 constant_trouble rebuttal to this weekend's WT and the GB's attempt at interpreting Jesus' parables

The Watchtower article, “Are You Heeding the Warnings?” employs fear and misapplied scripture to persuade readers to remain loyal to Jehovah’s Witnesses, presenting their interpretation of three of Jesus’ parables as central to judgment at the "end of this system of things." Below, we’ll dissect the claims, expose the manipulative tactics, and provide reasoned counterarguments.
What the Article Wants You to Believe The article claims:

  1. Jesus will soon judge every living person, separating individuals into “sheep” and “goats” based on their loyalty to Jehovah’s Witnesses.
  2. Anointed ones must remain vigilant and industrious to be “taken along” to their heavenly reward.
  3. Earthly followers must prove loyalty by supporting the anointed and engaging in Watchtower-prescribed activities.
The message is clear: salvation hinges on loyalty to the organization, not personal faith or relationship with God.
Breaking Down the Claims Claim 1: The Sheep and the Goats The article asserts that Matthew 25:31-46 applies to those who support the “anointed brothers” of Christ by assisting them in the preaching work, with judgment occurring during the “great tribulation.”
Counterarguments:
  1. Misapplication of the Parable
    • Matthew 25:31-46 describes the judgment of all nations, based on acts of kindness and compassion toward “the least of these.” It emphasizes ethical behavior—feeding the hungry, clothing the poor—not loyalty to a specific group.
    • No scriptural evidence ties this parable to the Watchtower's interpretation that “sheep” are those who support the anointed.
  2. Broader Context:
    • The parable reflects Jesus’ broader teaching on love and service (Luke 10:25-37). The emphasis is on moral action, not organizational allegiance.
Skeptic’s Perspective: Why would an all-knowing judge prioritize loyalty to an organization over genuine acts of compassion?
Claim 2: The Discreet and Foolish Virgins The article uses Matthew 25:1-13 to stress vigilance among the anointed, claiming it warns against complacency in serving the organization.
Counterarguments:
  1. Parable’s True Focus:
    • The parable highlights readiness for Jesus’ return, symbolized by the bridegroom, emphasizing spiritual preparedness—not adherence to organizational mandates.
    • The “oil” symbolizes personal faith and spiritual integrity, not works dictated by a governing body.
  2. Speculative Application:
    • The article speculates about two classes of anointed ones (discreet and foolish), despite Jesus providing no such distinction in the parable.
Skeptic’s Perspective: If vigilance is about spiritual readiness, why does the Watchtower turn it into a checklist of organizational activities?
Claim 3: The Talents The article interprets Matthew 25:14-30 as a call for anointed Christians to be industrious in advancing the organization’s interests.
Counterarguments:
  1. Personal Stewardship:
    • The parable illustrates accountability for individual gifts and opportunities, urging believers to use their abilities for God’s glory—not for institutional expansion.
    • The “sluggish” servant’s failure lies in fear and inaction, not insufficient organizational zeal.
  2. Distortion of Intent:
    • Linking the parable to Watchtower-specific work ignores its universal message of personal responsibility and faithful service.
Skeptic’s Perspective: Why equate personal faithfulness with organizational loyalty when the parable’s focus is on using individual talents wisely?
Claim 4: Judgment and End-Time Urgency The article repeatedly cites Matthew 24:40-41 to create urgency, claiming Jesus will soon separate individuals for salvation or destruction.
Counterarguments:
  1. Historical Context:
    • Matthew 24 primarily addresses the fall of Jerusalem in 70 C.E., not a distant future judgment. The warnings were immediate, not apocalyptic forecasts for our time.
  2. Fear-Based Manipulation:
    • Emphasizing “judgment” without addressing grace or redemption creates fear rather than hope, manipulating readers into compliance.
Skeptic’s Perspective: If judgment is imminent, why has the Watchtower’s end-time timeline shifted so often?
Claim 5: Jesus Fulfills Isaiah 11:3-4 What the Article Claims: The article asserts that Isaiah 11:3-4 supports the idea that Jesus, as Jehovah’s appointed Judge, will righteously judge humanity during the "great tribulation."
What Isaiah 11:3-4 Actually Says: Isaiah 11:3-4 states:
The Watchtower claims this prophecy applies directly to Jesus, framing him as the righteous judge appointed by Jehovah. However, a closer look reveals issues with this interpretation.
Counterarguments:
  1. Contextual Analysis of Isaiah 11:
    • Isaiah 11 speaks of an ideal Davidic ruler, often understood within its original context as a future king of Israel who will restore justice and equity. This prophecy was written to address Israel’s political and spiritual turmoil during the time of the divided kingdoms.
    • According to the New Oxford Annotated Bible (NOAB), Isaiah 11 is part of a vision of national restoration, not necessarily a messianic prophecy in the Christian sense. It reflects the hope for a righteous king who will embody the ideals of justice and divine wisdom.
    • While later Christian interpreters, including New Testament writers, retroactively applied messianic significance to this text, this was not its original intent. Isaiah’s audience would have understood it as a prophecy for their immediate future, not a distant figure like Jesus.
  2. Jesus Did Not Fulfill the Details of Isaiah 11:
    • Isaiah 11:1-5 describes a ruler who will bring global peace and universal justice. However, Jesus’ life and ministry, as recorded in the Gospels, did not fulfill these elements in a literal sense:
      • There was no end to warfare or universal justice during Jesus’ time.
      • The prophecy’s imagery of a peaceful kingdom where "the wolf shall live with the lamb" (Isaiah 11:6-9) did not materialize during or after Jesus’ ministry.
  3. Misuse of Prophecy to Assert Authority:
    • By applying Isaiah 11:3-4 to Jesus, the article elevates him as the ultimate judge, justifying Watchtower authority as his representatives. This leap in logic depends on an uncritical acceptance of Jesus fulfilling Isaiah, despite historical and textual evidence to the contrary.
Claim 6: Jesus Monitors the Anointed's Every Move The article claims:
This paints Jesus as an overbearing overseer, hovering over the anointed to ensure compliance. Meanwhile, the suffering masses are left without his care.
Counterarguments 1. Jesus’ Mission Was Compassion, Not Surveillance Jesus came to heal and lift the brokenhearted, not to micromanage. Matthew 9:36 shows his heart: “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” The image of Jesus as a watchful enforcer contradicts this.
His actions prove it. In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus declared:
There is no suggestion here that his primary mission was to police behavior. His focus was—and is—on bringing hope to the marginalized and oppressed.
2. Jesus as a Helicopter Parent The article reduces Jesus to a hovering taskmaster, obsessively watching the anointed’s every word and thought. This is not the Jesus who fed the hungry, healed the sick, and forgave sinners.
If Jesus is occupied with micromanaging the anointed, who attends to the millions suffering on earth? The claim presents an inconsistency: the Jesus who sought out the lost and broken in the Gospels is now consumed with nitpicking the actions of a select few.
3. Guilt and Fear Are Not Faith The claim suggests salvation depends on relentless vigilance, placing the burden of perfection on the anointed. This is not the message of grace Jesus taught.
Matthew 11:28-30 is clear:
Jesus promised rest, not a lifetime of anxiety over whether one is “faithful” enough. His teachings bring peace, not fear.
4. The Problem of Selective Concern The article’s portrayal of Jesus prioritizing the anointed over others undermines the universal nature of his mission.
John 3:16 declares:
Jesus didn’t die for a select group. His love encompasses everyone.
The parable of the Good Shepherd (Luke 15:4-7) reinforces this. Jesus searches for every lost sheep, not just the privileged. His care is for all, not reserved for those with a specific hope.
Loaded and Manipulative Language
  1. Weasel Words:
    • Phrases like “prove yourself” and “loyally support” imply unquestioning action without specifying clear spiritual principles.
  2. Loaded Phrases:
    • “Everlasting life” and “great tribulation” are repeated to evoke emotional urgency, pressuring readers to conform.
Illogical Reasoning and Fallacies
  1. False Dilemma:
    • The article implies a binary choice: follow the organization or face destruction. This erases alternative paths to spiritual fulfillment.
  2. Authority Bias:
    • It elevates the Watchtower’s interpretations as absolute, discouraging independent scriptural study.
  3. Circular Reasoning:
    • Claims about the anointed’s role are “proven” by interpretations that assume the organization’s authority.
This study article twists Jesus’ parables into tools for enforcing loyalty to the Watchtower, misapplying scripture and instilling fear. True faith doesn’t hinge on organizational allegiance but on love, compassion, and personal accountability. Let scripture speak for itself, free of manipulation. Faith isn’t about fear—it’s about hope.

Presidents ranking of the First Ladies of the United States. Elizabeth Monroe comes in at number 26. Who will be number 25? Elizabeth Monroe has been eliminated.
Judging will be based on the impact they had during their time as First Lady, from influence on their presidents to establishing traditions of the role. Their appearance will not play a factor in deciding. Don’t be sexist. Rule 3 still applies.
So, who’s next to be eliminated? The comment with most upvotes will result in elimination.

2024.11.30 04:40 Successful-Court8875 How bad is my phobia

Was going to delete Reddit but I’m waiting on some people to give me contacts
So today my family and I went to Outback Steakhouse all I got was a plate of fries and even still in panicked
But the real reason I’m freaking out is because I ate my food after using the bathroom. I washed my hands with the soap in there, but I used my hand to open the door. I’m so scared.
Not to mention my brother who never washes his hands might have touched my food
My family also went out to a really crowded place and too a photo with 20 other people. That was freaking me out.
Also at multiple points in the day I had to spit a hair out of my mouth around alor of people.

2024.11.30 04:40 thornbell_jkj When/Should I end my long distance relationship?

Sorry in advance for the long read…I (20F) have been dating my boyfriend (21M) for 9, almost 10 months. He is a great person and I can confidently say he has been the most kind and respectful person out of anyone else I’ve dated. However, we’re long distance and have been for basically the entirety of our relationship. He goes to school out of the country and there’s a 6 hour time difference between us, which isn’t ideal. (We are from the same country/town but he studies abroad). This past semester he transferred courses and schools in his country, so instead of being a junior in college he is back to being a freshman. I’m slowly realizing that the next 4 years of my life are going to consist of me waiting for someone who I will only see twice each year - 1 1/2 weeks for winter break and 1 month for summer break. Also, the longer he is gone for, the more detached I feel from the relationship, almost as if I start to lose feelings for him. When we are in person, everything is great and I question myself as to why I would ever second guess my relationship, but I realize it is probably because in the moment, I’m just happy to be done waiting.
He seems to feel the opposite of this though. He acts and tells me how obsessed he is with me (not in a creepy way), and constantly says how much he misses me and loves me and how crazy he is for me. He also has this plan envisioned that as soon as he graduates I will move to the country he’s studying in and we’ll get married, have kids, etc. He’s even stated that one of the main reasons he’s in school is for “our future”. I have told him in the past that he also needs to live for himself - and that I don’t really want to move and start a new life out of the country if I don’t have to, especially since I have so many responsibilities here, but he seems to be convinced I will come around eventually, especially since his family will be moving there soon. (If that actually happens I’ll probably never be able to see him in person again). To be honest, I struggle to voice how I love him and miss him because it starts to feel as if this is more of a friendship on my end. I feel extremely bad for this, but he is starting to become very emotionally dependent on me and clingy/needy, I know it is because he loves me but coupled with the distance, it kind of pushes me away further. We rarely FaceTime anymore because we are both busy, and even when we aren’t I tend to make excuses to not call. I don’t see how he can be so obsessed with me if we barely see or talk to each other, in person or over the phone. I don’t think I’m built for long distance and when I envision my future, I struggle to see myself with him.
I also feel a large disconnect to his family; his sibling refuses to acknowledge my existence or make me feel welcomed and his mother makes small comments about me, refuses to speak English when I’m around so I can’t understand her (they’re bilingual), and kind of makes me feel like I’m an inconvenience. His father is very nice to me but that’s all. He is everything you could want in a significant other, but it just doesn’t feel right for some reason? I worry how he will react mentally if I ask to end things/go on a break because I truly care for him and know how sensitive/dependent he is on me. My friends have said to wait until winter break for when he comes back to feel out the vibes, then make my decision after the fact, which I think is a good idea. I refuse to be a terrible person and end things over the phone/text. I’m planning on staying through winter break and if I really want to end things, I will talk to him over the summer in person when he gets back and ask to go on a break at least for the time being so I can sort things out. Is this a good idea? Am I a terrible person? In my last relationship, I was with someone for 3 yrs before being cheated on and it was VERY toxic which I also never fully recovered from, so I’m kind of reaching a point where I want some time to myself and to figure out my future without basing it off a person I’m not guaranteed to marry. I’ve never broken up with anyone and would hate to just drop a bomb on him… any advice helps!

2024.11.30 04:40 DropThatYeeto This might sound like another whining post but is it me or Vindicta players tend to be poor at skills not related to aiming?

I'm serious, i swear this isn't another "erm, vindicta players STUPID!!! NERF her!!!" (though i would not mind if they made her or GT kit more unique from each other)
Every time I have laned against them, they always make really questionable decisions, especially in the positioning department, which is ironic because snipers in most games depend on good positioning to be successful.
Like every time I have played against a Vindicta in a solo lane they for some reason really want to get in close no matter the character im playing, weather it be Lash or Yamato.
This one time a Vindicta decided to stay in lane despite being one health while I was playing Yamato, the character with on-demand AoE spam. Or maybe they decide for some reason to go in for minion melees against these burst characters right out in the open despite having only 2 stamina to escape with
OK, well, the one thing I will complain about on Vindicta is that getting Ult kill in the early game can basically erase alot of their past mistakes (such as an awful soul disparity because they died alot earlier) and that is kinda annoying

Ninja Kiwi described the upcoming Ranked rewards as being "awesome". But compared to their classic tagline of "more awesomer", a mere "awesome" is worrisome.
Jokes aside, we really have no clue what the volume of non-cosmetic rewards is going to be like.
I'd give my own opinion, but I think it's more interesting to ask directly without input.
How much are you hoping for, and in what form?
