Assalam O Alaikum all, there’s something that I think we need to talk about.
A few months ago, I was a witness to a heartbreaking scene that I cannot seem to shake off my mind. I was in the parking lot of this recreational park, waiting for my family to head out, when I saw this mini van pull up beside me. A family of 8-10 came out; 4 adults and the rest young kids. The man, seemingly the head of the family had headed to the ticket counter to purchase the entry tickets, and found out the ticket fee to be an exorbitant amount. He talked to the ticket guy for a bit but could not seem to find a way out. So he ushered his wife to bring the kids back to the van. I saw their faces go from the most brightest and cheeriest to those of defeat and sadness, all within a span of a few minutes. I checked my wallet in hopes of providing some sort of help but couldn’t find anything that would help him out.
Fathers are supposed to be superheroes, who shouldn’t ever have to be placed in such a situation. The sadness on that man’s face is something I can’t forget. I just kept praying to Allah to bless him with a lot so he can take his kids out without this financial stressor. And that Allah sends them to another fun place that day so they have even more fun than they would’ve at that jumping castle park.
This incident highlights a serious issue: the exorbitant fees charged by many parks and play areas in Pakistan. These establishments often fail to consider the diverse socioeconomic backgrounds of our society. Not everyone can afford to spend thousands of rupees on a day of family fun.
It's about time that these venues reconsider their pricing strategies. Perhaps they could offer discounts, lower entry fees, or designate specific days for affordable family outings. This wouldn’t hurt their pockets but allow them to earn much more from a business POV, considering families from different backgrounds would be more eager to take their children out. By making these adjustments, they can ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial status, has the opportunity to create cherished memories with their loved ones.
