Think I started my solo game dev journey back in March and have been slowly progressing with my first game. My question is what is the consensus on modifying premade assets or demo maps?
For example, I was messing with the warehouse map from megascans and made some adjustments to the main map with adding extra lighting, props, rooms, etc. I am not a 3D artist at all and have found some good asset packs that fit my idea nicely, and want to implement them. Some I’ve taken parts of a demo map and built on it and expanded it. But I don’t want to just be viewed as someone doing an asset flip. I know my game is going to be unique as in I haven’t really seen anyone do what I am aiming to do in my game. I also was using a shopping mall environment as a map, but was making a lot of modifications for on the demo map to fit my style and what I want to do.
I guess coming from a DJ/Producer background, I viewed asset packs like sample and plugin packs you would get for ableton. They are a good base to start, but to really bring life to them you need to add your own personal style.
Ultimately I am still new to all of this and want to put my best foot forward while still being respectful to the all the artists and devs.

I wanted to share a project I've been working on for a while: ChapterhouseDB, a data ingestion framework written in Golang. This framework defines a set of patterns for ingesting event-based data into Parquet files stored in S3-compatible object storage. Basically, you would use this framework to ingest data into your data lake. It leverages partitioning to enable parallel processing across a set of workers. You programmatically define tables in Golang which represent a set of Parquet files. For each table, you must define a partition key, which consists of one or more columns that uniquely identify each row. Workers process data by partition, so it's important to define a partition key where the partitions are neither too small nor too large.
Currently, the framework supports ingesting data into Parquet files that capture the current state of each row in your source system. Each time a row is processed, the framework checks whether the data for that row has changed. If it has, the value in the Parquet file is updated. While this adds some complexity, it will allow me to implement features that respond to row-level changes. In the future, I plan to add the ability to ingest data directly into Parquet files without checking for changes—ideal for use cases where you don't need to react to row-level changes.
In addition, I'm working on an SQL query engine called ChapterhouseQE, which I haven't made much progress on yet. It will be written in Rust and will allow you to query the Parquet files maintained by ChapterhouseDB, and execute custom Rust code directly from SQL queries. Much like ChapterhouseDB, it will be a customizable framework for building flexible data systems.

There are people calling in code violations they found during open house. Some of this stuff is shockingly simple via comparing square footage, plan and permit history from city and plan provided in disclosure.
Presumably some buyers are able to rehab such properties so it’s in their advantage to get the home red tagged to force a distressed sale.
Always permit your stuff.

Anyone else run into this? I have had this occur multiple times where I land where I should but the mission won’t complete. It really got me last night when I did a visual landing at an airfield with obstacles everywhere. I’m sure it would have been 0% smoothness, but that’s beside the point 😂.
