2024.11.30 16:30 anon90059 Noise reduction ear muff over your IEM?

Anyone try wearing noise reduction ear muffs, like the ones used in construction, over the IEM to get better noise reduction?
The one in this pic as actually a Vic Firth SIH1 headphone, but is being used without an audio cable.
Any experiences with it would be appreciated!

2024.11.30 16:30 CoupDeRomance Everything Everywhere All At Once is over hyped and it sucks

I love complex sci-fi with hidden meanings, but this one is just incoherent or maybe pretentious.
Don't tell me I just don't get it, I nerd about sci-fi movies and novels, watch endless YouTube breakdowns, easter egg reviews etc. But this movie just sucks.
Last I checked, I couldn't find a single YouTuber that disliked the movie. Strange. I guess my opinion is just unpopular.
But you're welcome to disagree.

2024.11.30 16:30 babayoff What is a Fire Blanket Used For? My Experience with the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket

Fire safety is something most of us don’t think about until a crisis happens. I had always relied on a fire extinguisher as my go-to fire safety tool, but after researching alternatives, I discovered fire blankets. Specifically, I came across the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket, which has since become a crucial part of my fire safety plan.
If you’re wondering, “What is a fire blanket used for?”Fire safety is something most of us don’t think about until a crisis happens. I had always relied on a fire extinguisher as my go-to fire safety tool, but after researching alternatives, I discovered fire blankets. Specifically, I came across the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket, which has since become a crucial part of my fire safety plan. If you’re wondering, “What is a fire blanket used for?” or whether it’s worth having one in your home, here’s what I’ve learned.
What Exactly Is a Fire Blanket? A fire blanket is a piece of safety equipment made from fire-resistant material designed to smother small fires by cutting off their oxygen supply. Unlike a fire extinguisher, which sprays chemicals to put out flames, a fire blanket creates a physical barrier between the fire and the air it needs to keep burning.
Fire blankets are particularly useful for kitchen fires, BBQ mishaps, or even emergencies in a garage or car. The Prepared Hero Fire Blanket, in particular, is compact, reusable, and easy to use, making it a practical addition to any household or workspace.
How Does It Work? The concept of a fire blanket is incredibly simple, and that’s part of its appeal. To use it, you:

  1. Grab the pull tabs at the top of the pouch to remove the blanket.
  2. Unfold it quickly, making sure to protect your hands with the edges of the blanket.
  3. Place it directly over the flames to smother the fire by cutting off its oxygen supply.
The simplicity of this process is one of the reasons I decided to get the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket. In a high-stress situation, I wanted something straightforward that didn’t require a lot of steps or training to use effectively.
What Can a Fire Blanket Be Used For? A fire blanket like the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket can be used in a variety of scenarios. Here are some of the most common applications:
1. Grease Fires in the Kitchen Grease fires are one of the most dangerous types of fires because using water on them can make the situation worse. A fire blanket is ideal for this scenario because it doesn’t rely on chemicals or water—it simply smothers the flames.
2. Electrical Fires Water is also not safe to use on electrical fires, so a fire blanket is a safer alternative. It can be used to quickly isolate the flames without the risk of electrocution.
3. Clothing Fires In the unfortunate event that someone’s clothing catches fire, a fire blanket can be used to wrap around them and extinguish the flames.
4. Outdoor Fires Whether it’s a BBQ grill flare-up or a small campfire that gets out of control, a fire blanket can help you handle the situation before it escalates.
Learn more about how the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket can help in these scenarios: Find out here
Why I Chose the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket When I started researching fire blankets, I wanted something that was not only effective but also easy to use and store. The Prepared Hero Fire Blanket checked all those boxes. Here are a few things that stood out to me:
Does It Really Work? While I haven’t had to use the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket on a real fire yet, I’ve practiced deploying it to get a feel for how it works. The process is simple and quick, which I think is crucial in an emergency. The material feels thick and durable, giving me confidence that it can handle high temperatures.
According to its specifications, the blanket can isolate heat up to 1076°F (580°C). That’s more than enough for most household fires, whether it’s a grease fire in the kitchen or a small electrical fire.
How It Compares to a Fire Extinguisher It’s important to note that a fire blanket isn’t a replacement for a fire extinguisher. Instead, it’s a complementary tool that excels in certain situations. Here’s how the two compare:
For small, contained fires, the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket is a fantastic option. For larger fires, however, a fire extinguisher is still necessary.
Where to Keep a Fire Blanket The portability of the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket is one of its best features. Here are some recommended spots to keep one:
Final Thoughts So, what is a fire blanket used for? The answer is simple: it’s a versatile, mess-free tool for handling small fires safely and effectively. The Prepared Hero Fire Blanket has impressed me with its ease of use, durability, and practicality. While it’s not a replacement for a fire extinguisher, it’s a valuable addition to any fire safety plan.
Having one in my kitchen gives me peace of mind, and I’m considering getting additional blankets for my garage and car. If you’re looking to improve your fire safety setup, a fire blanket like this one is worth considering.

When you got yours new out of the box did it have filament inside the machine you had to clear out (I’m guessing factory test?)? And how do I make the camera work? I get either a green screen or just fail on the app and file corrupted on screen.

2024.11.30 16:30 Ok_Nebula_481 I'm not sure what to do, this whole thing is stressing me out

This is Yap. I love him so much. I let him stay in my basement. We got hit with snow last couple days(lake effect snow) and we're going to keep getting snow. It's in the low 20s. He's been staying in my basement. I even have been keeping the heat down the house has been around 55 degrees because he gets scared of the heater running in the basement. He will run out if he hears it. Today he was meowing to get out ,so I let him out but then he meows to come in so I let him in but then he wants out lol I don't know what he wants. I even picked him up and took him into a spare room but he kept meowing. I have 4 other cats I didn't really want to bring him in the spare room since he hasn't been to the vet. I also have one cat who is really mean if he smells another unknown cat he will fight my other cats and even me. I have shelters outside but he's just sitting in my doorstep. He was someone's garage cat , but not sure at this point. I'm just really stressed out. From running around trying to make him comfortable, to attending to my cats , chores and work. I love him so much and I was planning on one day keeping him once I get my shit together but who knows when that will be Any advice? TIA

2024.11.30 16:30 lenscrafterzzz If she returned to Richardson Grove area here is what she would find

Nothing. She would find nothing. The festival she worked at was at a campground a few miles south & she would also find nothing there. What I mean by nothing is no little market to buy food, no lodging, no anything. The magic of the Northern Nights festival long gone until next summer. Oh, there would be redwoods for sure, but that is it. If she came up here, in order to eat, sleep, etc, she would need some kind of civilization to survive. A town right off the only route a bus would come thru-US 101. The closest one is Garberville a few miles north…Legget, Laytonville, to the south. All three are teeny, tiny. Further south is Ukiah, a proper city in Mendocino County and Eureka/Arcata to the north in Humboldt County, all of which are a couple hours from Richardson Grove/Northern Nights campground. It sounds like her time working the NN festival was pure magic, but again, one cannot live there. Presumably when she worked the festival she and her colleague would have flown into SFO (or possibly Sac), rented a car and drove up to, and thru, the redwoods. The drive wud have blown her mind, it is that beautiful up here. If I was a detective I would talk to the woman she worked the festival with and ask her where they stopped along the way for provisions/maybe crash for the night the day before heading up to NN. Places that would be not unknown to Hannah now because of that. I’m thinking Santa Rosa, a large city of 100k+ in Sonoma County, or Ukiah, a small city of 30k ish and the gateway city to this part of the redwoods she spent time in.
I hope this is helpful to someone. I’ve seen lots of talk about ‘The Redwoods’ but that is far too vague an area. While there are redwoods in santa cruz and other places, it’s the north coast region of the redwoods she spent time in. If she came back to ‘The Redwoods, it’s gonna be the region between Ukiah to Eureka/Arcata. By greyhound, you get there from LA via a stop in SF and do a transfer or two and you’re there. Not super complicated. One other thing worth mentioning is about homeless shelters in this area. I’m almost positive there will only be proper shelters in two places- Ukiah and the Eureka/Arcata area because again, there is a whole lot of nothing in between.

2024.11.30 16:30 FinancialBobcat7158 Going to a nondenominational service in addition to Sunday mass.

It’s holiday season! I’m back home from college and I’m visiting my girlfriend in her hometown with her parents. My girlfriend is considering the Catholic faith and has just started to attend OCIA classes. We go to Mass together every Sunday at school. Now that she is home, she’s been attending mass alone on Saturday night, and then going to her non denominational service the next day with her parents.
As I visit them, is it permissible to attend the nondenominational service with her family in addition to fulfilling my Sunday obligation by attending a Catholic Mass?

2024.11.30 16:30 AnimalAffectionate24 Colonoscopy on Monday, work Christmas meal on Friday

Hi everyone, I’m scheduled to have a colonoscopy and gastroscopy on a Monday at 2.30pm and I have our annual Christmas dinner at work on the Friday before. My letter says I have to start a diet 3 days before the procedure. My meal contains roasted vegetables and potatoes which is on the “avoid” list. Would it be ok to still have the meal as I will have more than 2 and a half days before the procedures?

2024.11.30 16:30 lildissonance We should be concerned about politicians weaponizing Islam to further their causes

Hi everyone, I'm sure a lot of people hold strong feelings about the recent happenings in the country. Whether you support PTI in their bid to free their leader via protest or support the establishment in their attempts to suppress (what they perceive to be) an insurrection, I think there's a tangentially-related conversation that's more important and relevant to our little sub worth discussing: How easy it is for politicians to weaponize Islam to further their causes.
Now it's no secret that political parties have been using the "Islamic touch" to curry favor with certain demographics (some parties doing so more frequently than others) for many years, but the recent debacle did strike me by how overt the "Islamic touch" was. Bushra Bibi and Gandarpur (I don't care about the guy enough to look up his name proper) began spouting Islamic quotes about fighting against oppression during their protest speeches.
If you've seen the clips, you can hear the crowd erupt to the point where it became apparent that they felt they were engaging in "jihad" by putting their lives on the line for the political party.
This is an interesting approach because it's reminiscent of groups that would get their warriors high on different substances before pushing them into the front lines of battle (i.e: Norse Berserkers on shrooms, Aztec warriors on peyote, or Sikh Nihang warriors on bhang).
We're all well aware of the way religion functions as a drug for people, but this might be the first time in recent history that a mainstream party (i.e: not ISIS or a similar terrorist group) has weaponized the religion to push their causes.
I feel like a certain line has been crossed that sets the precedent for other political parties or groups to do the same, and that's kinda frightening. Just imagine, a mob of tens of thousands of people who no longer fear for their own lives, believing they're serving a higher power by trying to free a single politician from jail.
A little (disturbing) food for thought.
