2024.12.01 04:39 CyberHoff Weird thing happened today - mystery power outage
My master bedroom is on a single circuit breaker, with the exception of the GFCI power sockets in the attached master bathroom which are on their own breaker. The only thing plugged into my GFCI sockets is two electric toothbrush chargers.
I have pretty standard electronics in my bedroom: phone chargers, a TV, and some lamps, but with two exceptions:
- I have a mini refrigerator where I keep some water bottles in case I get thirsty at night.
- I have a towel warmer that I rarely use.
I open my bedroom door to check the lights in the hallway, which are still turned on (makes sense, they are on a separate breaker) and I am about to make my way downstairs when all of a sudden the lights in my bedroom turn back on. Power is restored, everything works, to include the TV, lamps, celiling lights, and mini refrigerator.
This made me confused. I checked with my family and no one noticed any power outage in their rooms/spaces, nor did they mess with any power objects or GFI outlets. I checked the breaker and sure enough, nothing was switched off, everything working as normal.
So what happened in my bedroom? The power was off for about a minute and then turned back on, but ONLY my bedroom. It definitely wasn't a whole-home power outage. So what could have happened? I thought that maybe a couple surge protectors could have tripped and then turned themselves back on simultaneously after a small delay. This is highly unlikely, but it is possible....but that does not explain why my ceiling lights in both the bathroom and bedroom would cut out.

2024.12.01 04:39 MidnightWanderer01 Struggling quite a lot
This is my second semester of college; I’m taking computer programming classes. Most of this semester I feel like I’ve really been struggling quite a lot and it’s really discouraging. Like, I feel like the workload is just so overwhelming. During the first few weeks of the class, everything was fine but as time went on the workload increased (it feels) at an exponential pace as well as the complexity of the concepts in the assignments. Before I know it, I could barely keep up - there was just so much to do and so much of it were assignments on concepts that I could barely comprehend. I just wish it was a bit slower so I had time to digest what I was learning and could catch up. I’m not gonna give up on this major and im gonna study a lot of the things I’ve missed over this semester after it ends in a bit, but at this moment I just really feel disheartened over how things went for me. I considered emailing the professor and asking if there’s something that can be done, but honestly I’m not sure if that’s reasonable. Like, what’s he supposed to do - give me less homework? I don’t know, that just feels like it wouldn’t be fair to the other students and I don’t want to be a bother by asking for something like that.
