I tested negative on january 3 using abbott 3rd generation hiv rapid test kit Last week i talked for 9 hours for 3 days at work and on the third day i was so tired my throat hurts so much, i was feeling feverish and body aches. I went to the doctor again and gave me orahex and monteleukast and asked me to get an xray for PTB because i have cough since january 2 but its inconsistent and the first doctor said it was just because of my tonsilitis. I was also asked to get my thyroid profile Do you guys think i might get infected. I know its my fault and i truly regret it. Hopefully you guys can help me

2025.01.18 04:00 JUULiA1 I am, regretfully, switching away from Linux
I’ve read the rules, I promise this is not promoting Linux as I am very reluctantly making the switch and still believe that, unless anyone has a use case like mine that makes Linux difficult or impossible to use for said use case, everyone should consider switching because it is more user friendly than ever before. I’ve never been one to use privacy, security, etc as a reason to switch when singing its praises to others, since lots of people don’t really care about that when making such a substantial change like switching an OS. But instead hyped up how awesome it is to have a more responsive computer, that after the learning curve of switching is actually a very easy OS to use for non-technical folks with basic needs and the lack of distractions that come from pop ups, integrated ads and the like. But I digress. I write this to share my story, as I feel these types of stories are on the rarer side here in linux and to vent I guess lol.
I’ve been running Linux as my primary OS for nearly a decade now. It started with my first introduction into Linux in a computer science elective I was taking. I’ve always been a tinkerer and I had very little, but nonzero experience using CMD in windows before psh was a thing and it made me think terminal stuff was awful. Upon using Linux for software dev on a university Fedora machine, I both readjusted my view on terminal workflows and become interested in trying it for myself on my laptop where I installed Ubuntu 16.xx.
Fast forward to today and I’ve gone through the all the common phases. Distro hopping, trying out WMs, ricing, you name it. About three years ago I landed on Fedora as my permanent distro. Well, kinda. Once silverblue matured and I had learned about distrobox for handling stuff that’s not suitable for atomic distros I switched to that. Then I learned of bazzite and switched to that. Finally I learned of ublue’s blue build and made my own container image containing my layered packages so any new install would have everything I need. I’ve more or less perfected my Linux workstation, personally tailored to me and my needs. Throughout this time, all versions of my Linux workstation, it has been where I dove into software more rigorously, found my love for graphics development and GPGPU for scientific computing. It was what I used throughout my subsequent graduate education and research, developing a novel method for 3D acoustic propagation using CUDA. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
It has, however, always lived side by side with windows. I used windows sparingly for games that don’t run well on Linux. Once I got my hdr monitor, it became the only OS I used for gaming because of its mature HDR support. I have been anxiously awaiting HDR support to mature on Linux, which it most assuredly will some day soon. While dual booting was somewhat annoying, it hasn’t really been a problem since gaming only happened at the end of the day, when I knew I wouldn’t be going back to any software. So there was no back and forth task switching.
Where things started to change was about 5 months ago when I bought my first digital camera, the Canon EOS R8. It has been a wonderful hobby, where hobbies were something I could not afford throughout school for lack of time by working full-time + full-time student + research.
Over the last decade, I’ve seen a number of posts lamenting the poor photography ecosystem on Linux and even some posts like this one that stated they left Linux or the one thing stopping them from switching is photoshop and other editing tools. Despite this, I was sure I could do everything I needed with darktable and gimp. And, in a way, that isn’t false. I could do everything I need to with those tools. I love darktable and haven’t even touched gimp yet.
But recently, I was struggling to edit a photo. It was then that I realized I kinda wanted a tool that had a strong collection of presets. I started actually diving into GIMP, exploring plugins, etc. While technically possible, this was a hassle. Then, I started looking into web-based editors that could handle this use case or other photos from time to time. None of them really seemed right for me, despite there being some decent options.
Then I started exploring other tools, thinking maybe I can get at least one of them running via wine. There have been a number of tools that have piqued my interest, most that are impossible to run on wine, with some maybe working. Didn’t want to do this.
So, I started looking into running a windows VM with single GPU pass through, which I had done once before. The reason I didn’t want to fallback on switching to my physical windows install like I did with gaming is that, unlike gaming, I might take breaks from working on Linux to edit some photos throughout any given day and didn’t want to deal with the task switching. With a VM, I might lose access to Linux during the editing, but once the VM was shut down I’d be right back to where I was. I struggled getting the vm to work, and although I likely could’ve, I stepped back for a second and thought “what the hell are you doing, photography is supposed to be a fun hobby and this is not fun”
Given that my development workflow is now entirely terminal based, using neovim with plugins to bring it almost up to par with a proper IDE, and WSL on Windows, I begrudgingly wondered if switching to Windows is not the better solution for me.
It would completely eliminate dual booting, freeing up space for photos and games. It would allow me to try pretty much any photo editing software, giving me the chance to find the tool that is truly the best for me and the chance to just have fun with experiencing the unique features of all these editors. Aside from just photo software, I would no longer need to worry about any other type of software I come across not working on Windows. It would make it easier to develop for windows and Linux simultaneously, something that has recently been on my radar as I start contemplating a few projects that I want to make that I intend to make public, some of which are user applications where having a windows build would broaden interest. It would eliminate the mental load of switching OSes between my professional job and personal work, as my current job forces me to use their hardware running windows. I would no longer always be maintaining my personally tailored workstation because as shitty as it is, windows doesn’t give that type of freedom. Time not spent tinkering is time spent enjoying other things. It’s not that I don’t enjoy tinkering, but it has become apparent that I’m not feeling fulfilled because I keep devoting time to it instead of other interests I also have.
I realized, I need to make the switch. I might not want to, but I will be happier. And it’s sad, but there’s almost a relief to it. I’m not completely ditching it, because like I said, WSL is there. But my time using Linux desktop has come to an end, for now.

TL;DR- My grieving mother in law is using me as her sole emotional outlet and won't see a therapist. It's getting to be too much to handle.
My dad passed away about 6 months ago. Of course I miss him, but overall, I think I'm handling things pretty well. My mom on the other hand, is not handling it well. Her life has been turned upside down, and despite everything my husband and I do to support and help her she is miserable.
She calls or messages me all day long, every day and cries and complains about how terrible things are. She cries about how alone she is, and she has no one in her life that loves her. She calls and she cries that she has to sit on traffic. She cries because she stubbed her toe, or her takeout order was wrong, or because she hated these curtains, or a million other things Every. Single.Day.
I completely understand that she is grieving, and we've given her a lot of slack even though some of her comments are hurtful- like she doesn't even realize that I might miss him too. She doesn't really have any friends and I'm really the only person she talks to. The constant negativity from her is weighing very heavy on me. It is just emotionally draining constantly trying to console her and talk her down, and it doesn't seem to be doing any good.
She won't see a therapist. She just says "it's not going to fix anything." She has a tendency to get offended really easily and take things personally. So I'm afraid if I stand up and tell her to lay off a little bit she's going to spiral and just see herself as a burden and refuse to speak to me at all.
What do I say to her to quit using me as her sole emotional outlet. She needs to talk to someone who will help her deal with things, but it's just getting to be too much to bare on my own.
