Ok so, Iām going to get right to the chase. I feel like I am spending a lot on my gf. She does not earn any money and has strict parents who donāt know about us, so she is very limited to help me with my expenses.
I went and saw her a couple of months back paying for the flight, the food there, Lyft expenses. 80-90% of the trip was from my pocket. The 10-20% that was not was the meals she paid for herself and some cash she gave.
After that trip, I exchanged Christmas and birthday gifts with her, which was fine (although I felt I bought more to be frank). There are also times when she feels low and I attempt to cheer her up by sending food to her location, which she is happy about. And I paid for the tickets to go see her in a month.
But today, she kind of āindirectlyā asked me for food and while she denies it, I can tell she was being somewhat serious. I already sent her food earlier this week and not sure why, but this got me thinking about how much I spent on her and how much I will continue to spend. She also admits she feels bad which i appreciate but I am not sure how to mitigate these thoughts.
Also, when I saw her for the first time, her roommate was not comfortable with me staying over and said something of the lines of āif heās coming all this way to see you, he obviously doesnāt care about his money, make him stay in a hotelā to her, which she fought for because she wanted me to stay with her.
I really hope she does not think I do not care about my money and Iām blowing all of it. She makes me happy and I only want to see her happy thatās why I spend so much on her. But, her indirectly asking me today kind of made me slightly upset because Iām not doing it because Iām rich. Iām doing it because I love her and I want to, so I am.
But I am not sure anymore. Any advice?

I opened my eyes and immediately regretted it. On one hand, I was still alive, and I didnāt mean to be ungrateful for that, but on the other hand, I had the worst headache since Spring Break of 2125. Even the subdued lighting of the escape pod felt like mining lasers boring holes through my skull. Through the pain, I knew I needed to assess my situation. Okay, I thought, Iām in an escape pod. Wen will have a field day when the team picks me up, thereās no avoiding thatā¦ Running my fingers across my forehead, I winced as I brushed against the swollen lump that served as a reminder of the fight my head lost with the panel. No blood, thatās good. Blood. Oh, that reminds meā¦
Shit! Whereās my sidearm? I reached to my holster, but ā
āLooking for this, predator?ā
The high-pitched voice was familiar. For a moment, I couldnāt remember why, but as I turned to look for the speaker, the first thing I noticed was a ten-millimeter barrel staring back at me. A very familiar barrel, in fact -- I just wasnāt used to seeing it from this angle.
Yep. The Farsul is holding me at gunpoint with my own gun. Iām NEVER gonna live this downā¦assuming I live through it, of course. Okay, Tom. No sudden movements, and donāt provoke them into doing something bad for your health.
āAh, well uhā¦not particularly. I mean, I wasnāt planning to use it. Mostly for safetyās sake, you know?ā I slurred, realizing that I hit my head pretty hard earlier. āArmor piercing rounds in that thing, I wouldnāt want to breach the hull of the pod and lose good air, right?ā I hoped that they werenāt aware that it was actually loaded with frangible ammunition precisely because breaching a shipās hull is not something you usually want to do, assuming you like breathing. And I hoped that the concussion I surely had wasnāt making me sound as full of shit as I actually was. My head felt like it was full of sand, and I was having a hard time focusing on anything more than how desperately I wanted to go to sleepā¦yeah, definitely a concussionā¦
āThatās not a problem, monster. Our escape pod landed on the planet half a paw ago.ā They rolled their eyes at me. Apparently not just a human reaction. Interesting.
Feeling somewhat relieved and still incredibly groggy, I nodded. āThatās good. Thatās good. Really good. Waitā¦wait, wait, wait. Why are you still in here with me? Bad atmosphere? Acid rain? Why not, you know,ā I held my hand up, pointing my index and middle fingers down, wiggling them both, āget out and get away?ā Something wasnāt adding up, but I couldnāt quite place my finger on it. What was I missing?
They sighed, lowering the gun briefly. āI wish I could. There are two reasons I canāt. Reason one, your stupid predator ass is blocking the hatch. Reason two, my leg was injured, and your stupid predator ass is sitting between me and the first aid case.āā
I nodded in what I hoped appeared to be thoughtful. āHmmā¦yeah, I can see how thatād be a problem. Iām guessing you donāt want me to move closer to you, but you also donāt want to get any closer to me. You probably wanted to kill me, but you realized that then youād have to move a big stupid predator out of your way, and with your leg hurt that would probably be awfully hard to do.ā A thought surfaced in my mind. I hoped it was a clever thought, but either way, I had to play the hand Iād been dealt. āAnd you might have already realized that you canāt shoot me with my own gun, since itās got a biometric lock, and wonāt respond to your paws,ā I said, wiggling my index finger. āā¦So, you are bluffing to try to get me to cooperate with you, arenāt you?ā I raised an eyebrow and gave a little smirk, remembering to keep my mouth closed. I wanted to pull off smug, without being frightening. I didnāt want to provoke them into doing anything stupid, after all.
It mustāve been my lucky day, because the Farsul looked down at the gun in their paw, let out a heavy sigh, and placed my pistol down on the bench between us, before back up at me with tears welling in their eyes. āSpeh. Stars brahking SPEH! Iā¦I guess you win, predator. Justā¦just kill me quickly, please.ā
Cautiously, I reached out and took hold of my sidearm. A slight press back on the slide confirmed that it was still loaded, as I expected. Returning it to my holster, I sat up, trying not to wobble too much. My head still felt like a Mazic had been taking tap-dancing lessons on it.
āI donāt think thatās necessary right now. Besides, do you have any idea how loud it would be, shooting that thingā I said, pointing at my pistol, āin here? No, thank you.ā Resting my hands on my knees and looking at the Farsul, I continued. āI think we both need to see that first aid kit, so Iām going to turn around and get it. Iāll need you to read whatās in there, if you want me to take care of that leg for you, ummā¦uhā¦Iām sorry -- whatās your name, anyway?ā

Humans have always gotten sick and we never truly knew why until recently. This didnāt stop us from coming up with numerous theories that were all based off of whatever information we already had. All of our theories for why we got sick were all extremely wrong, then we invented the microscope and discovered an entire universe and life forms coexisting with ours.
Why then is the current Phenomenon any different? Something unknown is going on, and so we draw on our current knowledge to try and explain it, and yet we most likely are again extremely wrong. How in the world would a medieval peasant been able to infer that the reason he got a fever was because the billions of cells in his body were forming an immune system response to billions of evil life forms reproducing in his body to ultimately try and kill him? Why then is the current phenomenon any different?
Microbiology has already shown us that reality is more complex and strange than we could possibly ever conceive. I donāt think for a second that the lights in the sky are going to have an explanation that we could derive from mere observation. A million years of observing illness wouldnāt get us any closer to discovering germs unless we had a microscope. A million years of observing the phenomenon wonāt get us any closer to the truth until we develop some new form of technology that lets us actually study whatās going on.
Every theory we have today is going to be completely wrong then, we are observing the cause and then trying to describe it through the lens of our current culture. It must be aliens, it must be demons, it must be interdimensional. We only throw these terms around because thatās all we know, thatās our only frame of reference. We are just like the medieval peasant trying to figure out illness, it must be god, it must be demons, it must be something spiritual. We wouldāve never guessed our bodies are made up of billions of life forms working together to create our consciousness, and we will never guess what the phenomenon is via direct observation of the evidence.
I donāt know what the phenomenon is, all I know is that not a single person on this earth knows what the phenomenon is unless theyāve developed a quantum phenomenon detector or something of the sorts.

2025.01.18 03:42 Cdb1414 Do you ever get intimidated starting a new project?
So far the metalcore band I'm in has released four singles and two EPs (each with four tracks) within the last 6 years.
Last year, we released an EP, and Iāve decided I want to push myself further by writing a full-length album.
The thing is, Iāve been procrastinating because Iām nervous. Iāve only worked on singles and EPs, so the idea of putting together a full album with 10-12 tracks feels daunting.
I know that releasing singles and EPs is considered the "best" approach these days, but creating a full-length album has always been a personal goal of mine. Plus, we could still release like five singles from the album before its full release or even release each song one by one. Either way we're pushing for an album.
I think my issue is I want to take our band into a somewhat different direction but I guess I'm scared of veering off of what we're "known" for. So that mixed with having to write a lot more songs is sort of stressing me out a bit lol
Also to give a little insight of how the band works were sort of just an internet band. It's only me and the vocalist (he does screaming). I track all the guitars and his vocals at home and the bass/drums are all MIDI. Then we just send the tracks out to get mix and mastered. I write all of the instrumentals and he writes all of the lyrics/vocal melodies. It's been working great. We would eventually like to start playing live soon once we can find reliable members, but that's another story.
My main reason for this post is just a few questions:
- Can you relate to how I'm feeling?
- Do you have any advice for us when writing?
- How many songs should we aim to write to dwindle down to say 10 songs?
- I'm also someone that has ADHD so it can be hard for me to actually sit my ass down and write. So if you can relate and got any advice on that, that would be great. š
- I know setting deadlines isn't necessarily good for creativity but what is a reasonable amount of time for us to have an album finished? I'm not trying to put pressure on us but I do like setting goals to aim for. Even if we don't necessarily reach them. (Obviously if we set a goal and we aren't happy with what we got we wouldn't release the music)

Thatās an exaggeration but I have an older male friend at work. He acts like heās close to me (he texts me a lot in the evenings, heās called me from the bar or when heās waiting to pick up his kid, and weāve spent time alone together outside of work twice, one time to see a movie). When weāre alone heās relaxed and really sweet. Weāre not in a relationship, just friends. But at work I donāt feel as close to him. We talk and joke around but itās not like when weāre alone outside of work.
And sometimes he teases me and it hurts my feelings a little bit. Why does he want to spend time with me outside of work and then act like it never happened? Maybe Iām guilty of doing the same. But for example at work he organizes a social event (cake day) that you have to pay for. I paid my share and in front of our lunch group he knows exactly who paid and is begging on guy to join who he already knows doesnāt want to join. Then he acts like he canāt remember if I paid and he said something like āI was hoping you wouldnāt join so there would be more cake for usā. I know itās a joke but he only does that to me and he does it in a way like heās looking for a reaction/he doesnāt say heās teasing. I donāt like feeling really good around him when weāre alone and feeling like shit with a group
