 | My 15 year old tortie and I took a nap on the afternoon of October 3, 2024. I woke up with her having passed in my arms. I was broken. It wasn’t expected at all. She lost some weight but was still herself. She was definitely one of my soul cats. I already have horrible depression anxiety adhd autism and losing my baby put me into a bad spiral. Luckily I had my pup and boyfriend who were very supportive while I grieved. My boyfriend knew I was struggling not having a cat by my side all the time (he was also grieving as he and Boo were very close and my pets are the first he had. I have a girl Lily but she is skittish and since Boo passed has been hiding out in the basement. I am taking her to the vet to make sure all is well). He said he’d get me a kitty for Christmas. He was set on an orange girl. He heard orange babies are playful and always around I did warn him they’re also crazy. We searched rescues near us but the lady was a tad weird. I found a post on craigslist. She was beautiful. December 1 we went to Detroit and I fell in love. I must’ve hugged the lady 5 times and gave her some canned food and cat nip for momma. I was so worried Christmas would be horrible not having Boo, but Daisy instantly became attached. Today is my birthday and she has kept a smile on my face the entire day, as she does every day. I want to cry thinking about how grateful I am to have her. My soul girls definitely sent her. I swear she’s 1/3 Angel, 1/3 Boo, and 1/3 wildcard. This is just a sappy post about how I was broken hearted beyond belief 3-4 months ago and within 1.5 months of having her she has helped me heal so much. It’s so fun watching my boyfriend play with her (his first pet!!). I am entertained and laughing so much everyday. I love her so much and know she loves me so much back (she’ll look at me and her pupils get bigger 🥹😭). How lucky are we to have beautiful orange cats. Despite pushback from the housing board—who see the pandemic as over, fear lawsuits, and have anti-vaccine residents—I believe these measures are crucial to prevent illnesses like shingles, the flu, and COVID-19.
Some UU friends have mentioned the 4th Principle ("A free and responsible search for truth and meaning") as a reason not to get vaccinated, but I feel that Sunday services or someone's own apartment/house are different from shared communal housing. Your feedback and advice are welcome.
I'm reaching out for feedback on a proposed health safety policy for our UU intentional community. Our goal is to enhance resident safety and well-being while respecting privacy and addressing the nuances of our shared living environment.

Additionally, the board is concerned about potential lawsuits for mishandling medical records and violating HIPAA regulations. While I deeply sympathize with their commitment to serving our community, their approach often focuses more on minimizing organizational risk than addressing the genuine human dynamics and safety concerns that shape our daily community life. But I don’t want COVID again, shingles, or the flu.
