2025.01.18 06:40 Chidi_IRL How to interpret Training Load data?

I recently switched over from a Venu 2 to an Instinct 2X. I always used the body battery as an indication of when I needed to slow down in the gym to avoid fatigue / injury and it was a good enough indicator of when I was pushing too hard. If left to my own devices I have a tendency to not slow down until I'm injured / I collapse with exhaustion so it was always nice to have an indicator like this to help me plan how far to push myself.
Now with the Instinct 2X I'm discovering a whole new load of information in the acute / chronic training load, training readiness, training status etc. but because I'm new to it I don't really understand how to interpret it.
Is chronic training load like a cumulative build up of fatigue? If it says productive but my acute training load is above recommended, am I ok to carry on as I am or should I slow down? I'd appreciate any advice from others who use this data.
The benefit of the body battery is that it's not just dependent on the session itself (I know Garmins struggle to assess weight training) but more on my recovery. My stress levels are usually higher after a tough session and my body battery will compensate, will the training loads also take that into account or is it just based on what it records during the sessions?

2025.01.18 06:40 JinTaisa Racist comments at work - should I let HR proceed with the disciplinary process?

TLDR: Racist comments were said about me at a work party. Of the very few facts I can prove, HR has agreed that objectively, it is racism and harassment, but they warned me that taking further action would likely result in the members in my department no longer wanting to work with me.
I am a male westerner and I've been working in a Japanese company for the last 10 years. I initially joined as a translator and interpreter so my Japanese abilities, while not quite native level, are not far off. About 8 years ago, I transferred to another department and since then have received 2 international awards in the industry and acquired external qualifications in my field.
At the end of year department party, I overheard the new employee (who transferred from another office in Japan to our department 2.5 months prior) sitting at the neighbouring table saying my name in a mocking manner. With very little to prove it and not wanting to make a scene, I left it as it is. However, later in the night, I heard them mocking my Japanese with an exaggerated foreign accent. I called them on it across the tables, and said "Is there something you'd like to say to me?" They then continued to mock me and said "Oh no, he heard me," covering his face in fake embarassment.
I let it sit for 5 minutes, but felt the anger slowly build up. I called him over in front of everyone and told him what he was doing was racism. He cocked an ear and said "What are you referring to?" I replied "You know exactly what I'm talking about. Saying my name in a mocking way and making fun of how a foreigner speaks Japanese is racism. I don't ever want something like this to happen again." Embarassed at being called out in front of everyone, he said "Ok" and went back to his seat and that was the end of it.
I was ready to leave it there, but after the party ended and we were all out on the street in front of the restaurant, he came up to me, put one hand on my shoulder and the other hand on my elbow and said "I wasn't mocking you before." I pulled away from him and said "No, you were mocking me. Just drop it." That was the end of it. I found out later that one of the leaders in my department had told him to apologise.
I had the weekend to think about it, but mocking me, making racist comments, and then afterwards instead of apologising saying that he wasn't mocking me, with unwanted physical contact no less, was unforgiveable in my books. However, I was away on holidays for the next two weeks and couldn't report it directly to HR, but I knew if not reported straight away, people would start to forget details, twist the facts, etc., so I called my manager to tell him I wanted to file an official complaint, which is still in accordance with company regulations. My department manager said a few times on the call "Do you want to get him kicked out of the company", which is very passive-agressive in Japanese, as well as things like "I'm not protecting him, but once you report it to HR, there's no taking it back," and "He's still young and just needs to be taught (proper conduct)" In the end, my manager didn't report it, so I had to wait until I was back at work in the New Year two weeks later.
On my first day back at work, there was an email in my inbox from the other person wishing me a Happy New Year and apologizing for "Making me experience unpleasant feelings." I ignored the email I reported the incident to HR, who investigated it, questioning the other person and the 3 leaders in our department (not the manager). One of the leaders was on my table, the other two were on the table of the person who made the comments.
As a result of the investigation, HR only have proof that he made fun of my Japanese, but not for saying my name in a mocking way, or mocking me when I made it clear that I could hear him. Nobody else remembers the mocking beyond making fun of my Japanese and the other person denies it. Despite this, HR said that based on the facts they confirmed, what the other person did constitutes as both racism and harassment and if I give them the greenlight, they will report it to the CEO who will decide the appropriate disciplinary action. Based on past cases, the other person will likely be forced to leave the company. However, HR also warned me that the members in my department thought that I was overreacting, and that my department members thought that the other person should be forgiven because they showed remorse and that if disciplinary action was taken, they "may not want to work with me anymore" (very passive-agressive in Japanese). If not reported to the CEO, HR said they will make the other person write a formal apology. HR wanted an immediate decision from me, but I asked them to give me until Monday, which they agreed to. This conversation happened Friday (yesterday),, 2 weeks after I reported it and 4 weeks since the incident.
Before the end of work, one of the leaders (same one who told the other person to apologise) pulled me aside after a meeting to talk about it. I usually get on well with this leader, but it's also worth mentioning that he has a very good relationship with HR as well as all the members in our department. He asked about what my decision was, and I told that HR judged it to be both racism and harassment, but that my department members would not like letting the CEO handle it and that HR gave me until Monday to decide. The department leader said it would be a waste if I had to leave the department because of all the good work I had done, and for the other person too, because of future expectations.
The department leader then said he didn't think the other person mocked me outside of making fun of my Japanese, but I reminded the department leader of the conversation I heard them having leading up to it, which he'd completely forgotten and it made him blush. I said that I thought it was dangerous to let the other person interact with any of the members in our overseas offices, and the department leader thanked me and said they want that kind of feedback and won't let him with with anyone from overseas again. However, the department leader said that the other person is still young and needs to be taught (proper conduct). This is exactly what the manager said in our phone call. As a final comment, the department leader said that the other person genuinely felt remorse and he deserves a second chance.
Based on Japanese culture, my department manager would also be disciplined, particularly because there was another harassment incident against me 5 years ago that resulted in the other person being forced to leave the company. At that time, the manager received a warning, which was put in his permanent record.
Seeking advice, I've talked to my wife (Japanese), my father back home, and our European office's HR manager, whom I have a very good working relationship with. My wife was initially against having the incident reported to the CEO but is now more of a neutral stance. My father is telling me to drop it, saying it's not worth it and the other person would be stupid to try anything again. The European office's HR manager has said it needs to be reported to the CEO. I also asked them if a transfer to their office was possible, but they said that there are currently no vacancies for my skill set and I am more valuable to the entire company working in Japan.
So that's where I'm at. I have no idea what to do. I can let it be reported to the CEO but be ostracised and/or forced to leave the department. I can put up with it, but hopefully give HR my own conditions (e.g. any future offences by the other person against any employee and it gets reported). Alternatively, I can look for another job either still in Japan or in my home country, and with my experience and qualifications I don't think it should be too hard, but then I still have the decision of changing jobs while being alienated or just putting up with it in the meantime.
It's also worth noting that my level in the external qualifications can be upgraded from level 1 to the max level at the end of January, but my department has to approve it and any evidence of meeting the requirements would completely vanish, as it is experience based and needs to be verified by an already qualified member. It is very possible that my past 3 years of experience could all go down the drain right before I can qualify for the max level, which is a permanent qualification.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel lost.

2025.01.18 06:40 evilcandybag Water in glove before playing?

I'm a hockey dad (currently U9) with no hockey experience of my own. My kid has recently started pouring water into his catcher before playing claiming it's better somehow.
I have heard of using hot water to break in new gear, and some people seem to like to rinse their gloves after playing to combat stink. I have never heard of watering the glove pre training, and I haven't managed to find anyone online recommending this. Is there any benefit to pouring water in your catcher before training or is my kid just cargo culting?

2025.01.18 06:40 xsmallpixie wedding alternatives?

My fiancé and I (both 25) are secretly getting married at a courthouse this July.
We’ve been together since we were 18 and have already lived together for several years. Our families already consider us married, so it’s not that we’re hiding anything. The reason we’re not telling anyone is simple: we’re skipping the wedding planning chaos. Plus, neither of us wants to waste money on a big celebration when we could save that cash for more important things, like buying our first house or reinvesting in our businesses. As for a honeymoon, we’re not bothered— we already travel a few times a year for work, and we plan to visit even nicer places once we’re more financially comfortable. We’re not in a rush to travel. After all, we’ll be spending the rest of our lives together.
So far, the plan is to hit the courthouse in the morning, then eat a bunch of food at some of our favorite restaurants throughout the day. It feels a little… mundane, and I’m trying to think of ways to make the day feel more memorable. Any ideas? What are some fun or unique alternatives to a traditional wedding celebration?

I'm preparing side salads for hubby's 60th. There will be 60ish people & 3 other salads. I make caesar salad as a meal for the 2 of us & never measure out the ingredients. I need to know in this case for purchasing.
Could someone guide me with what I need proportionately? I've been advised that a 2.5kg (5 1/2 lb) salad feeds about 10 people (I'll probably make 2 of them). How much would I need for a 2.5kg caesar salad for each of the following ingredients that I use:
