This is going off the same line of thought I've been following since my last post and it involves a touch of speculation along the same lines, but it's its own question. I do hope this isn't pestering at all.
First, what do we actually know?
• Judean, possibly Jerusalemite, ancestors of the "Josephsons" apparently settled in Galilee in the wake of the Hasmonean expansion at the end of the 2nd century BCE
• Large, tight-knit family during Jesus' lifespan, plenty of aunts, uncles, and cousins by all accounts
• Multiple names and persons associated with Jesus by blood are also associated with his inner circle, well-established, which likely informed what would become the Twelve Apostles tradition in the first place
• However, there are passages in the gospel accounts which seem almost like polemics against any such significance, e.g. “Whoever does the will of God, that is my brother and my mother,” “Unless one hates their father and mother…, they are not fit for the Kingdom of God,” etc.
• The blood relatives are associated positively in early Christian tradition with the Jerusalem Episcopate with the last (plausibly historical) recorded Bishop from among the Desposyni being Judah Kyriakos, apparent great-grandnephew of Jesus via brother Jude and who held the seat c. 130s–40s CE: also interestingly enough the last Jewish-Christian Bishop of Jerusalem.
• However, other early "heretical" Christian communities such as the Ebionites* had distinct, poorly-understood traditions regarding James, Jude, (Didymus Judas) Thomas, et al. which competed with proto-orthodox ideas and in some cases even survived beyond the former Roman domain. One of the most infamous works produced by such a community, the Gospel of Thomas, even curiously contains an explicit command for Jesus' followers to be led by James the Just after Jesus is no longer around (with no hint of an expected crucifixion, resurrection, and/or ascension to boot as far as I can tell).
• Jesus' alleged Davidic right is another concern of the gospels, especially Matthew. A Toledot showing his descent from David literally begins the New Testament, after all. However, I have some interesting thoughts on this which I'll get back to.
A maximalist interpretation of such evidence may suppose a literal "Nazarene Dynasty" of sorts which held official status within the earliest Christian communities. The minimalist may say that most any information regarding Jesus' family relations from Christian sources cannot be safely regarded as having any more historical value than that of pious myths.
I would personally lean towards the possibility that the historical Desposyni being a key player in the development of early Christianity prior to c. 70 CE centered around Jerusalem with their influence diminishing in the late 1st and eventually vanishing permanently in the first half of the 2nd century. I would perhaps even argue the gospel accounts (as well as the Epistle of James and to a much lesser extent Paul, e.g. the intro of Galatians) show signs of this influence and friction between pro- and anti-Desposyni factions and narratives.
What Matthew 1 potentially has to do with this in my view is this: First, it must be said I recognize the likely possibility remains that the author of Mt simply wrote the Toledot himself and incorporated it into the text in emulation of books like Genesis and (1st) Chronicles given his fixation on the Davidic theme. However, given it is a Toledot, I would wonder if there's any possibility this was a document among the local sources the author would have had access to. Such a thing would have, I believe, conceivably been produced as a quasi-"royal pedigree" for James and the other relatives of Jesus within the early Jerusalem community. I'd be very interested if the idea of the Toledot as its own source (probably with Joseph's entry rewritten in Mt) has ever been considered.
That being said, I am here to ask what sound, up-to-date, scholarly research has to say on the subject and I'd love to see what there is to look at. Thank you ✌️
*many of whom are unfortunately obscured by being amalgamated into the Frankenstein's monster of "Gnosticism" and whose existence is confirmed during the times of the so-called Apostolic Fathers, very likely stretching back into the first century and some speculatively having pre-Christian roots, for the record.

2025.01.18 18:37 Doebringer Looking for a bit of guidance as a new Eldar Player
Hey there. While I've been aware of WH40k on the tabletop for 20+ years, I only started playing it myself about 6 months ago with a couple friends. So far I play Grey Knights, and my friends variously play Leagues of Votann, Deathguard, Custodes, Space marines (raven guard).
My daughter recently wanted to get into it as well, and is interested in Aeldari. She's younger, so I'm going to be helping a lot. I bought her an Autarch and a Combat Patrol so far.
Using the app, I've been playing around with 1000 and 2000 pt lists, but there's just a LOT of models and combos to go through and without the practical experience, it's hard to know just what will work well.
So far, I'm looking at Yvraine, the Yncarne, The Visarch, Eldrad, a Farseer, Illic Nightspear, and a Spiritseer as characters, along with a squad of Corsair Voidreavers and 3 squads of Guardian Defenders, a squad of Rangers, 2 squads of Wraithblades and a wraithlord.
The wraith's put me off with their 4+ attacks until I saw that Spiritseers give them +1 to hit. Eldrad seems like an auto-include for his 3 extra fate dice. The Visarch+Yvraine get to lead together the squad of Corsairs, and then the Autarch/Eldrad/Farseer each lead a squad of the guardians. Illic of course leading the rangers.
I guess where I'm struggling is that many datasheets don't have a lot of attacks with very high strength, and those that do barely get any attacks with them. Just based off my experience trying to fight things like Custodes in particular, but also knowing that Grey Knights all have 2+ saves and Death Guard are tougher than most marines, I'm worried I'm setting my daughter up for a not so fun time on the tabletop.
Any list-building or strategic advice would be greatly appreciated. Of course, I'm also trying to look up youtube videos, with varying degrees of relevance since I know that balance changes can come often, so advice from youtube may or may not be relevant currently.

I was studying x86_64 syscalls and i noticed open() syscall writes file path to rdi register. On a 64 bit architecture its only 8 bytes so 8 characters. Its also not possible for user space programs to know exact pointers to file in the disk. I am really curious how this system calls work.

Hi, everyone!
I’m having an issue with mouse sensitivity in Skyrim Special Edition. I play with SSE Display Tweaks and ENB installed. While everything works fine in first person, when I switch to third person, the vertical mouse movement becomes way too sensitive (much higher than horizontal sensitivity).
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Adjusting mouse sensitivity settings in
Skyrim.iniandSkyrimPrefs.ini. - Disabling and tweaking settings in SSE Display Tweaks (e.g., setting
FreeCameraVerticalSensitivityFix=false). - Using mods like Better Third Person Selection, but that didn’t help either.
- Tweaking ENB settings, but they don’t seem to affect this issue.
Has anyone else experienced something similar or knows how to fix this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

So I (16F) have my driver's license, so I usually drive myself to and from school. I also take my sister Maddie (14F). One day, Maddie told me that one of her friends, Sasha (14F), needed a ride home because her bus wasn’t coming.
We all got into my car, and I noticed I had a bunch of gift cards to a café with a drive-thru. These gift cards were about to expire, so I figured I’d be nice and treat them to a drink and a snack. I asked Sasha if her mom would be okay with it, and she said yes.
I went through the drive-thru and ordered myself a strawberry drink. Maddie and Sasha both got chocolate frappuccinos with whipped cream. Maddie wanted a cake pop, and Sasha chose a brownie. I didn’t mind them eating in the back of my car since I clean it regularly.
When we got to Sasha’s house, she took her drink and brownie and went inside. Her mom happened to be outside when Sasha walked in. I drove off, but not long after, I noticed her mom was following me in her car. Seriously? I pulled over to figure out what her deal was.
Sasha’s mom came up to me and started going off about how Sasha needed to lose weight and was pre-diabetic, so she shouldn’t have had the brownie or the frappuccino. I told her, politely, that I didn’t know about her health issues and that I’d even asked Sasha if it was okay, and she said yes. I also explained that I used gift cards that were about to expire—like I wasn’t trying to poison her kid!
She told me I should have called to get her permission first. How was I supposed to do that when I don’t even have her number? Then she asked if my mom would’ve been fine with it if I were Sasha’s age. I said yes, my mom wouldn’t have cared. That apparently set her off because she started ranting about how kids these days are “disrespectful” and don’t follow parents’ rules.
At that point, I was honestly done. Like, was I really supposed to assume Sasha wouldn’t tell me if she wasn’t allowed to have something? Growing up, it was always fine to accept treats unless there was an allergy or restriction, and we’d let people know if we couldn’t have something. I assumed that was still normal. Apparently not.
Was I really in the wrong here, or was this just ridiculous?

It’s often seen on this sub the claim that omega movements are better than Rolex. Disclaimer, I’ve owned many watches from both brands, from speedies to seamasters to datejusts to gmt masters and currently own more omegas than Rolex watches, so this isn’t a fan boy take.
Let’s go point by point on their mass produced movements
Accuracy: Rolex is -2/+2, omega is 0-5 or 0-6 depending on on size. Rolex is tighter and averages closer to 0
Rate: Rolex is 4hz. Due to coaxial, omega is 3.5hz a slower rate.
Antimagnetism: omega has Rolex beat here at 15k gauss vs Rolex’s 10k gauss. Both are way more than you need, though
Service interval: omega says 8 years to Rolex’s 10 years. So coaxial didn’t give a longer service interval one of its main raison d’etre
Thickness is often acknowledged. Omega watches are thick, even when they are hand wound like the speedy.
Finishing: people often say Rolex doesn’t finish its movements. Total nonsense. Attached is a photo that shows perlage and beveling, *even in the areas you would never see *. Omega makes the top plate look pretty, but sand blasts basically everything else.
Personal anecdotes, I track my watches accuracies and as an example I’ve included the last week of my 20 year old GMT master. Incredible accuracy for a vintage piece.
Ultimately, they both make awesome watches and great movements. I just wanted to address the off hand comments I see all the time and help people see that Rolex makes incredible movements, especially a million of them a year!
