I hear a lot of people in relationships talk about needing “comfort” from their partners, like “he didn’t comfort me after I argued with my bf” or “she wasn’t comforting after I lost that bet”
Wildly stereotypical examples I apologize but I wanna get some opinions because I’ve been hearing this term more and more.
Here is my unpopular opinion: In a long term committed relationship, I don’t believe you owe the other “comfort” or like extra favors, accommodation when they have ups and downs in their own stuff.
Being there? Yes! And ear and a shoulder? Yes! But we all have stuff, and it’s nice to have a partner who deals with their own ish. Then, you can take turns being there for each other in the huge stuff like losing a parent, financial crisis, etc.

It really didn’t bother me at first but now I’ve been thinking about it. So, few days back I got to my car in the parking lot of my building and noticed white tape on the edges of my bumper, neatly placed on both the sides. I’m not sure how long were they there as I might’ve not noticed it immediately on the day they were placed. I assumed someone scraped my car or accidentally hit the bumper and in hopes the whole thing doesn’t fall off, put tape on it. Haven’t been to the mechanic or for servicing in a long time aswell. What possibly could be the reason? I already expect some jokes cos the situation is kinda funny but damn I need an answer yo.

 | Just switched from the 2015 Silverado LT with a 6-banger to a 2021 with the 4-banger. Had lifters and camshaft issues replaced by the dealer under warranty, but still has this tapping sound. 2025.01.18 18:40 Last_Assistant7989 I did everything by the book to avoid my parents and it's still not working- what do I do next?
Tldr; I need help. I used every trick in the book to stop my narcissistic parents from getting to me emotionally and physically and it's not working.
I (27F) am the youngest of 2 sisters. We spent the majority of my childhood with my mom. We were never allowed to go out in our teens, we were not allowed to wear shorts or t-shirts. I am the tallest one among my sisters (i am 5'5) so I was never allowed to wear dresses because I am "too tall".
According to her, I am too quiet and introverted. I don't know how to set boundaries. My eyebrows are weird-looking, I am too fat compared to my sisters (I am curvy and I use food as a self-soothing mechanism). Growing up, I had never invited my friends over, because I was too scared that she would embarrass me in front of them by saying something dumb I did back then.
She used to talk about the mistakes I used to do in front of my sisters' friends, and sometimes family friends or relatives when I was in 6th grade and all I kept doing was crying every night thinking why no one loves me, why am I not enough? Why am I stupid for not being an A++ student? Why am I burden on my family? I never really answered back because I knew that my punishment would be very severe (I have older sisters and I know what would happen if I tried to say something back). I could either be wipped with a belt or slapped or punched.
Those questions kept growing with me and I managed to hide them for years. Until 2020, when I have decided that I wanted to end my life. I used to do different things to try and hurt myself.
When I was in high school, my hair was shedding a lot because of an acne medication that I was taking back then, she forcefully put garlic in hair to "activate" my hair follicles so that my hair grows back. I shampooed it 5 times that day and the garlic smell would not leave my hair. She forced me to go out with family friends later in the evening and the whole car smelled like garlic.
She made me dress like 50 years old woman in my teens. She makes fun of me until this day Those were incidents out of plentyyyyy that I had experienced and I could not resort to my dad because he too would side with her and say that I should be patient and understanding and respectful towards her.
Eventually, I had moved to study and work abroad.
1- I am physically abroad. I thought that my parents would just stop thinking of me and i would be better off. I am financially independent. I thought distancing myself would solve the problem (it did not work). They are forcing me to come back home so that I can "take care" of them.
2- Every phone call I get is about why I won't find a husband and why I dress like a homeless person (I don't but even if I dressed like I had left a Met Gala she would have something to say). I met someone and i told her about him. I later found out that he's a gambler and when I knew that I ended things with him and that chapter was done and over in my life. Both of my parents were yelling at me saying that I am naive and stupid and how can any man fool me like that (I did not marry the guy, never slept with him and he never asked for money- we were just talking for a short period of time).
2-I stopped telling her things that happen with me because she will use those things against me and torment me and make up stories and lies to make me look like the bad and incapable daughter who knows nothing. That didn't work because now she thinks I am hiding things and that I am lying to her. Obviously, when she tells my dad her version of everything I tell her, he becomes enraged and starts to get angry. Plus she never keeps a secret.
3-i nod to everything she says and I pretend to agree to everything even when she insults me from the moment I open my eyes. That does not work because she tells me I have no self confidence and that I don't love myself
4- I started dressing modestly and wore a hijab (i am muslim) and surprised her. She accused me and harassed me about being brainwashed and that I joined a cult. (She wears a hijab and she tried to convince me to wear it 8 years ago). I ended up taking it off after 10 days of actually wearing it, because I could not handle the insults.
5-she's telling me now to show more skin and get plastic surgery so that I can blend in with others back home so that men can look at me and that I could find a husband (she used to call me a w**re for wearing a strapless dress one time).
I don't know what to do anymore. I am thinking about blocking my entire family and go off the grid. But I know that will not work either. Please give me advise on what to do next. I don't want to go home,my mental health is already suffering because of them.
