2025.01.18 18:19 AdvancedPerformer838 How do yoy deal with lack of support from family?
So, I'm a 30yo entrepreneur. I have been struggling with my family lately and I'd like to hear opinions of people that experienced something similar in their paths. I'll provide sufficient information bellow, I hope it's not too much to read.
I've got a degree in law, practiced for over 9 years in corporate and tax. I saved some money along the way and have recently left my partner role at the Big Law firm where I worked to dedicate myself to a business I started a aside hustle. I partnered with two real estate agents, a real state lawyer and a fund managing company to form a consulting and financing firm for construction companies.
Business has been very good lately. My days are somewhat crazy at times. I have the opportunity to participate in huge deals, morning to evening. It's tough, long hours, pressure. I'm also very frugal right now. I'm focusing my resources in reinvestment and capital growth. I can honestly say it's a dream come true and I'm loving it.
The problem comes when I deal with my family. To them, everything I'm doing sounds like some crazy schnanigans. It's like they think I'm downright lying when I talk about the projects my clients bring to us. Every time they ask what I'm doing, or how has business been lately, and I tell them I'm very excited because we're implementing a sophisticated solution and/or securing financing of a sizeable amount to help somebody, they immediately go "that's not possible", "that's too risky", "why would anybody take this kind of deals to you", or, my favorite one, "why don't you get a job, at least that way you would be able to afford xyz".
Things get even tougher when they invite me to do things that involve me spending my capital. My brother and my girlfriend have invited me to take two different international vacations in the upcoming year. I've told both of them no. Travelling is not a priority right now. Why would I take money from my firm in the form of profit if I can allocate the resources in profitable projects? In my eyes, this projects will enable me to build a stream of bulky passive income, hire people and position myself in leadership only roles ASAP. Work less and travel more in the future. Work more and travel less now. To them, I'm being selfish, inconsiderate and apparently seem to be poor, or a miser, or both.
What really bewilders me is when they come to discuss their working situations. None of my family members own businesses. There's no problem with that, mind you. But they're not happy. My father is a competent economist and accountant, but is stuck with a terrible employer - the guy goes a month or two without even paying him. My mom has been unenployed for a while. My brother works for a multinational company that squeezes every drop of blood from him - he makes bank, but hates his job, his boss and his colleagues to the bone. My girlfriend is struggling with her job as a public attorney assistant - long hours, little pay, no opportunity to rise the ranks. All of them have voiced to me multiple times how they're discontent about their work situations and how they're looking for opportunities for other jobs or starting their own businesses.
I always try to be positive and tell them to pursue their dreams. Sometimes, if I could, I would even offer the opportunity to participate in a deal I'm involved or to make a connection to somebody I know. This initiatives were met with contempt. They will come up with a long list of reasons why my idea or proposition is too risky, isn't possible, I'm crazy, I should just get a job like them and stop pretending I'm a businessman, etc. etc. Every. Single. Time. I stopped being supportive a while back. I just avoid having these conversations with them right now.
The crazy thing is, I've found a lot of support from people outside or my family. I've met cool people in my business dealings (not all of them, of course, competition is wild and you make your share of rivals) and several of them speak the same language as I do. They give me insight, open doors that were previously shut and are downright positive.
The thing is, I just feel alone. In my own house, in my own family. I get some severe "you're not better than me vibes, stop with the business act" vibes. The lack of support is astouding. I feel largely disconnected from the people I've loved all of my life. I'm not a robot. It hurts.
Fellow entrepreneurs, have you experienced similar stuff in your journeys? If you did, how did you deal with this family dynamics? Your input is appreciated. Thanks.

Did anyone else notice that she left her dog in the car while she was at the gym. She did 30 minutes on the stair master and then waited an extra 20 for Andre to finish up and then took pictures. So she left Blue in the car for about an hour? And then went grocery shopping and left her in the car again? Why not just leave Blue at home? As a dog mom myself I would never do this. Okay, this is a clickbait title. But I want you to hear me out. First of all, the recent comments about the author glazing Rin really amuse me because you've finally started making the same "plot" criticism you've been complaining about for years, only because you can't find any excuse to deny Rin's superiority. The difference is that Rin started the story with a massive gap between him and Isagi. Therefore, since Isagi developed unrealistically fast due to plot reasons, the author has to apply the same treatment to other characters. So, this argument is empty and ridiculous.
Now, about the idea that the author hates Rin. There’s a common notion that Rin always wins against Isagi and it’s becoming boring. The stats might show this, but you can’t determine whether an author loves or hates a character just by looking at this. No one checks the stats; we’re all here for the hype. At this point, I think the author gives Rin far less credit than he deserves. Let me explain.
The first match we saw Rin in was during the second selection. It might seem strange to you, but this match was definitely the one where Rin had the most "aura," scored the most iconic goals, and shined more than the main character. But since this was an introduction match, it doesn’t feel right to count it because no one liked the character at that time, there was no one to cheer for his goals. We could only decide if we liked him based on reading and being impressed.
Now, let’s talk about the second match in the second selection, which everyone keeps talking about. It seems like you only remember the end of the match because, as Rin himself admitted, Isagi outplayed him and won only by "luck." So even though he won, Kaneshiro didn’t reward Rin for it, no one praised him for it; on the contrary, he was seen as someone Isagi outsmarted and won against by chance.
U20... As a Rin fan, talking about this match is very difficult for me. The fact that the character who crashed out to save the match, took a kick to the head without hesitation to stop Shidou’s shot, orchestrated Nagi's goal, allowed Barou to score because Barou followed him, destroyed the whole team for Isagi’s goal and defeated his brother; had the most forgotten goal of U20 written for him, and had no one to cheer when he scored a "lucky" goal while the whole world saw Isagi as the MVP thanks to his lucky goal—none of Rin's efforts during U20 were highlighted, and he didn’t even have a properly memorable panel. In short, the thing that upset me the most about U20 is that the character who worked the hardest never received the most reward from the author.
Now, let's talk about the PXG BM match. The match isn’t over yet, but I still think Rin has shown the most performance so far, regardless of who scores the last goal. So, what does Rin get in return for this? Let me tell you. One of his best moments, the "here's your VIP seat" panel, isn’t remembered because it wasn’t a goal, and people say he did nothing throughout the match except "destroyer mode." Again, one of his best moments, deciding not to score the goal, is forgotten. The chapter where he said to Isagi, "you're not my rival anymore," is overshadowed by Isagi’s "the genius of adaptation" panel. When he scores, Rin praises Isagi. In the chapter after he scores, the author draws an incredible panel for Isagi, not for the character who scored (you can check chapter 276). And the worst is that he leaves everything he does on the field. Did he ever say anything to show he was superior to the other characters for the goals he scored, the shots he blocked, the players he dribbled past, or the first-place title he’s protected since he came? Did he farm any aura? This isn’t real football. It doesn’t matter who outperforms; if you don’t support it with unforgettable panels and lines, people won’t get excited about what he did. You’ll be left with the yap of a few readers. If Rin were truly a character the author loved, the author would have gone for a narrative like Isagi, would say whatever came to his mind to Loki and Noa, who were far superior to him and about to leave the field, while they had nothing to say back. For instance, the author wouldn’t draw one of the best panels of 300 chapters, "you can't outsmart us," for two people stopping one person, but then design the scene where one person stops two people as just another ordinary chapter. You don’t like Rin because the author doesn’t like him. Can you recall any unforgettable goal celebration of Rin? No, you can’t, because there aren’t any. Then is it possible to remember any of his goals, no matter how hard he tries to score them?
