Hello everyone. I caught mono in August of 2024. Like other stories I’ve read here, I was on the up and up with my life at the time. Between gaining experience with my new remodeling business I own, working out, and I was dating again after months of being single. I was very active and I had such a great outlook on things since sobering up from 8 months prior.
This virus has taken a massive toll on me in many ways since then. The impact on my physical well being is pretty severe being that I’ve had to rest so much and I’ve lost most of my strength. I’ve also taken a lot of time off from work to rest. I had to. When I would put in a hard days work, I wouldn’t be able to sleep. It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever experienced. At best 4 hours of sleep, and healthy me needs 8 hours. I remember one night after a really long hard day not sleeping a wink.
However, it’s the mental and emotional toll that is the worst for me. One of my first symptoms was severe anxiety. It felt like lightning going through my body and I’ve not experienced anxiety like that before. Stress is the worst part though. It’s like I can’t handle any type of stress anymore. Whether it’s from work or talking to people. Basic things I usually don’t have trouble with. Im dissociating pretty when under stress. Im also not getting pleasure out of anything I do. I think it’s called anhedonia. Normally I wouldn’t sit down and let something do this to me, but it does seem that rest is the only thing that helps. I’m 5 months in and I still have a ways to go it seems. Although things have gotten slightly better.
I just wanted to know if anyone could relate to some of the things I mentioned, specifically about stress. I’ve read a lot here and it’s really helped me. I’m so grateful for the stories and anecdotes I’ve read here because the doctors don’t seem to know much about this. It’s hard to be positive during times like these, so hearing that I does get better has helped me so much. This virus can be so excruciating for some of us, and I sincerely send my support to all of you going through it.
ps. Ive been coughing up this clear phlegm since I was diagnosed in August. I haven’t heard anyone else with that but it’s a reminder to me that I’m still fighting the virus.

So, I have a bad habit of getting very tense in my shoulders while skating and executing choreography. I try to be conscious about relaxing them when I start my program but by the time I am getting into my elements, my shoulders are practically in my ears.
Any tips/exercises/drills I can do to help relax more while on the ice?
