I want to preference this post by saying this is a lot longer than I thought it would be. I'm sorry.
I got the game not even two weeks ago and threw 70 hours into the game. I did all the gigs, all the side missions they offered, maxed out my cyberwares to Tier 5+.. I genuinely enjoyed the game and story.
At first, this game felt so overwhelming. So many choices and options and skill trees and I didn't know where to start. I chose Corpo, I thought maybe the game had three different storylines you could play as throughout the whole game rather than "dialogue choice". Small disappointment but my expectations might've been too high. I was immediately introduced to characters that I felt like "why should I care about these people?" Specifically Jackie. He was thrown onto me like we go way back but I was in the mindset of "so?". First thing I did immediately in free roam was scrounge up enough money to pay Vik off. I don't know why this was my first instinct but I felt like it's better to get it done and over with rather than possibly deal with always being reminded of it. I enjoyed the slang terms they used throughout the game too.
Fast forward some, heist and relic nonsense. Jackie kicks the bucket, it's a whole thing. Dex isn't too pleased with me. Wakey wakey in that landfill, oh hello terrorist trying to control me. Hated Johnny. Always only ever cared about himself and used everyone that liked him. Takemura, though I was skeptical at first, he was probably my favorite character in the whole game. It was nice chatting with him about his childhood too. Playing as Johnny was pretty cool too though. Ended up getting a lover's thing going with Panam, surprised she kissed me that first time. I cringed whenever River and Kerry tried making slight passes at me. I did not want to be in those situations and felt so uncomfortable. Nonetheless, got those missions done. An underwater city in the dam? That was awesome. Ozob.. is ozob. Cheesed fighting those boxers every chance I got. Had some crazy skeleton armor going, the cyberdeck.. had that one thing that auto uses my health if I dropped below 50% HP, along with 3 blood pumps and a second heart in case I do hit 0. In other words, I was God lol.
I felt so reluctant to give Johnny control at first and this guy OF COURSE goes on a drinking spree, gets a tattoo, fights, car crash, the whole thing.. Unbelievable. I decided to trust him again though against my better judgement so he could hit it off with Rogue and calm down Kerry. Samurai performed again which was pretty cool. Although I was iffy with Johnny the whole game, I think we really connected when we visited his burial site. He fully understood the type of person he was to people and I respected that. I trusted to be his buddy.
Super fast forward to the end. Alright I'm on borrowed time obviously. All the side gigs and missions are done. We meet Hanako, I'm curious about where my pal Takemura is but don't see him so that's a bummer. Hope he didn't die. Anyway, I decide to listen to Johnny after hearing her out and get out of there. Get to the roof and I got to make a decision. I decide to let Johnny take control and do things his way. Works like a charm, minus Rogue.. and Smasher. 7 tapped Smasher in the dome with her pistol. Felt very Johnny-like. Anyway, cyberspace and all. Decide to let V have his body back, though I was confused because I thought maybe there was another chance for him to live? So the choice confused me. And V hurled himself in space wtf? Towards what I assume was an Arasaka space station. I don't know. If I understood the choice better, I definitely would've let Johnny keep the body. My line of thinking is that V already had his second chance at life by surviving Dex. Then again I guess the argument could be made for Johnny for being pure lucky. I would've definitely chose Johnny to keep the body, get more years out of that and I think Johnny definitely matured more from being stuck around V. But that would've just been me.
Overall, I felt empty. If I only paid attention to the main storyline, I think the story would've ended rather quickly, in 10 hours maybe. Which is really upsetting because I enjoyed the mechanics and everything about this game. I just wish there was MORE. Maybe I'm just being nitpicky though. Overall I loved the game but long for more of it. 8/10. I hear Phantom Liberty is basically a whole 'nother game that extends on the story so maybe we can bump it to a 10/10. Is it worth playing?
Sorry for the extremely long post. I don't usually post stuff like this but felt I needed to get my first impressions of this game out. Loved it.
TL;DR - Phenomenal game. Not enough story missions. Need more (sequel?) 8/10 :)

2025.01.19 00:17 SteamyDeck "Stick drift" in a game even though the controller itself is fine?
Odd situation; my Xbox Elite 2 controller and my Dualsense have an odd "drift" in Avatar: FOP. I just bought and installed it. The right stick is behaving as if I'm pushing it up and to the left. I checked the Xbox accessories app to see what's going on, and it looks perfectly good. No issues in other games.
Any idea why I'd be getting this odd behavior in just this game or how I can fix it? Seems to be specific to Avatar. I can't really navigate the in-game menu since the right stick is used to go up and down the list; I can fight it a little, but it's nearly impossible to read the menu as it jitters up and down. When I get into the actual game, it just looks up to the sky and spins around.
Google doesn't seem to have any answers. I restarted my PC, not any better. I'm reinstalling, so I'll report back if it fixes it, but this is just super odd.
