2025.01.18 23:50 Imaginary_Drama_457 Clearing rectal stump mucous with enema
I am 7 years post total colectomy with end ileostomy due to UC. My surgeon left my full rectum in (I was told 7 inches by a different doctor who scoped it but have no way to confirm) in anticipation of a J pouch which I've decided against. At first I had lots of mucous coming from the stump (and active UC which has since gone into complete remission in the stump) but over the years it has slowed down considerably. Now it only happens once every 2 weeks or so. Because of that, I have a new problem of the mucous not wanting to come out and getting backed up. It usually results in me getting urgency feelings over the course of several days without being able to expel anything. I eventually get it out and there is no blood or coloration, just normal mucous. I consulted online and saw other people with similar issues used enemas to regularly clean out their stump. I had recently moved so I couldn't see my last GI doc irl but I messaged using an online portal about the issue and he said that it would be safe to use an enema to clean it out. He wasn't very specific at all. I've tried looking online everywhere and can't find much about what to use or how much so I figured I'd make an account and ask here.
So does anyone else use an enema to clean out your rectal stump? If so, what liquid do you use? Distilled water, saline, mineral oil etc? How much fluid do you use, and how much should I use on a 7 inch full rectum rectal stump?

2025.01.18 23:50 Silver_and_Salvation Kneeling for communion is coming back.
Just attended a Saturday vigil mass, and had my second daughter baptized. At the end of mass our priest made an announcement saying something along the lines of during the current synod the pope has ordered churches to start having kneelers for those that want to kneel during the Eucharist. I and the five other people at my parish greatly appreciate this, and this is a win for the church over all. God bless everyone, figured I’d post something since I haven’t seen anything yet.
