Lately I've been delving into statistics. Here's afew I've collected from the Internets.
The world population in 2024 was 8.2 billion people. The countries with the highest populations were India, China, and the United States respectively.
The universe is estimated to be around 13.7 billion years old. Earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. It is estimated that there have been 117 billion people that have ever lived on Earth. In around 1.3 billion years Earth will become unlivable for most organisms due to the Sun's evolution.
Over 350,000 babies were born in 2024. That's around 250 per minute. India's birthrate was around 2600 births per hour. On average 150,000 people die each day.
It is estimated that there could be as many as two trillion galaxies in the observable galaxy. Most of the elements of our bodies were formed in stars over the course of billions of years and multiple star lifetimes.
The sun doesn't just give off the heat needed for life on Earth to exist. The sun, and stars like it, also create most of the oxygen in the Universe.
An atom is the smallest unit of a chemical element and the basic building block of matter. Atoms are made up of three subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. If you imagine an apple, the size of an atom relative to the apple, is roughly comparable to the size of the apple compared to the entire Earth.
Earth can survive without humans. Infact the entire Universe can survive without humans. We are not essential to its existence.
When a person dies, the energy that kept them alive dissipates into the environment as heat and other chemical energy. This is because energy cannot be created or destroyed, but instead is transferred from one form to another. This does not mean or insinuate that a magical afterlife where you get to hang out with your dead mates or relatives exists. It's even more unlikely that reincarnation exists, since the Universe has no practical use for allowing you to be reborn, just so you can learn some silly lesson to facilitate "spiritual growth." It also doesn't imply that we get reborn just to amend some "karmic" event in which we hurt someone and made them feel boo-hooey one time. You think the Universe would be that petty? You think the Universe cares? C'mon now...

 | My Swedenborg book collection. I plan on collecting Arcana Coelestia down the road, along with many other works. I've read through a chunk of Heaven and Hell, and began True Christianity. The latter really helped illustrate many of the beliefs of Swedenborgianism. I only recently got into Swedenborg, around late September last year. It has had me within its wonderful grasp since. I've met various Swedenborgians in person. I've been to the Glenview location in Illinois, and the Swedenborg Library in Chicago. All very nice people. I also made a post in Christianity a while back about my copy of Heaven and Hell and had some interesting replies. A pastor commented and helped clarify things, especially the Swedenborgian views on the trinity. 2025.01.19 04:08 om3g Burnt wire in baseboard heater
Hi folks,
Moved into a new house a few months ago, and woke up to a burning plastic smell this morning. Thankfully no fire, but I traced the smell to one of our baseboards and turned it off at via the thermostat and breaker.
I removed the side plate and discovered one of the wire connectors (pic 1) and a surrounding plastic tube (pic 2) were singed. The singed connector sits inside the plastic tube and was connected to the metal rod going through the fins of the heater.
This baseboard has been running fine for months, but the weather has been particularly cold for a couple weeks, so our heating is on a lot more.
A few notes: - There were mouse droppings inside which I’ve since cleaned up, but they looked old/dusty so I don’t think a mouse was in there recently. - The connector might’ve had electrical tape on it, since the other end of that wire does. - This baseboard is on the same thermostat as two other baseboards, which appear to be fine. - The wire nut connections look pretty tight but I haven’t unscrewed them to check yet.
We’re waiting to get an electrician to take a look, but I’ve some questions I’m hoping you can help with.
- What could be the causes of this connector burning?
- What is this type of connector called and can they be replaced easily?
- Is there a safe way to disconnect this heater from the others so we can stay somewhat warm while we wait for the electrician, or do they need to be a fully connected circuit?

Around 2017-2018 I found out my boy Hiro had cancer and my friend at the time kindly commissioned this painting for me before he passed. The friend and I have since fallen out of touch due to unfortunate circumstances but he never told me who the artist was or gave me any information on their socials etc, sadly I was unable to decipher the signature and was curious if anyone had any insights. I was hoping to reach out to the artist again for additional work if they were still doing so

Our FL (Kaya Gardenia Wesley/Ainsweld) in her past life, had religious trauma, and was mistreated by her mother, affected by religious psychosis. A shaman told her mother that she was the cause of all the pain in her life, and her mother basically killed her, and our FL was reincarnated as Kaya, the princess and a side character in a webtoon she only read once, and she only knows the plot and not the characters. Once she was reincarnated, she made it her mission to spend her life freely, and to never believe in a god. But then she gets engaged and married to our ML, Laurel Crovo Ainsweld, the representative of something she loathed, spirituality and religion, since it would help the saint’s status, since he used to be a commoner. The purpose of their marriage is what I mentioned, and also apparently marriage between a saint and an imperial family member helps the kingdom gain more favor in the gods eyes. Their supposed goal is to be happily married and produce an heir, but Kaya wants freedom, and Laurel wants to help his people. Laurel is a kindhearted and intelligent person, though he likes to tease and play around sometimes, and his advances go way over Kaya’s head. Hi everyone, I just released my first paid game and I'm trying to spread the word a bit! It's called Key Gunner, and you play by shooting enemies who are coming to attack you by typing the letters above their heads. It's meant to appeal to arcade fans and those looking for edutainment games.
My plan for the game is to release this base version now, then release a DX version later down the road. How far down the road will be determined by whether I can get funding to add localization. I think it would be so cool to accept any character as input, so you could use it while learning how to type in Korean, for example, but that will take much more time and work than I could justify without funding (unless the game somehow does extremely well, but I am quite doubtful of that, haha). But even if I don't get funding, I still plan to make the DX version worthwhile, with things like achievements, skins, extra modes, etc.
