2025.01.19 06:10 lozzadearnley Do the canon events allow for Jaheira's Vampire Cure?
I never played BG1 or BG2, but I'm aware that Jaheira probably knows the cure for vampirism* - which is, as I understand it, involves taking a living vampire/spawn (ie Astarion) and the vampire that turned them (Cazador) to a certain temple in Athkatla, the capitol city of Amn, where placing the vampire and the heart into a statue's arms will rid them of the curse.
Here's my thinking - post-BG3 Spawn Astarion probably has Cazador's heart. He just doesn't know what to do with it.
This wouldn't be an option for Ascended Astarion, I don't think, as the 7000 bodies were all destroyed in the ritual - including Cazador's. Ironically enough, his bid to be 'free' would be what dooms him to becoming a vampire forever.
But Spawn Astarion? It seems perfectly within character for him to keep the heart, like a trophy. Jaheira might have even scooped it up for safe keeping, or its just lying forgotten inside the temple within Cazador's corpse. He wasn't killed by sunlight, but by a stake. So if I know my lore (and granted I may not) his body would have returned to the age he would have been had he not been infected - ie, suddenly aged 200+ years. But it would still be there.
So there's Astarion, several years after the fight for the Netherbrain, being a generally decent guy and living off cow's blood. With Jaheira keeping a close watch on him, to make sure he doesn't backslide now he's free.
Then randomly Jaheira says "hey there old friend, why don't you come with me on a little adventure to Amn - oh and I heard you always travel with that shriveled heart of your Masters. That's cool, bring it along."
Is that possible? As in, canonically correct at least?
And is that likely, given what we know about Jaheira - again, I'm limited to just BG3, and it seems like she might prefer to wait and see what sort of person he becomes once he's free, rather than just casually mention mid-game "oh yeah I totally know the cure for vampirism." She doesn't seem the type to just spoon feed him the answers - he has to earn it.
*And yes, I'm aware of Wish and True Resurrection being possible cures too, amongst other things, but BG3 does not address them, and it kinda seems like they don't work along the same lines as in D&D.

I recently bought a 2015 27-inch iMac because the price was too good to pass up. It has a Fusion Drive setup with a 3TB HDD and a 128GB SSD.
My usage is mostly web browsing, so having a large hard drive isnāt really a big deal for me. Normally, 128GB of storage would be plenty for what I do.
Iāve been debating whether to keep it as a Fusion Drive or separate it and install the OS on the 128GB SSD. From what Iāve read, for light usage like mine and with no large files involved, thereās not much difference between the two setups in terms of speed. But Iāve also seen people recommend splitting the Fusion Drive for better performance.
Does anyone here have experience with this? Would splitting the drives actually make a noticeable difference in this case, or should I just leave it as is?

I feel genuine distress when a sock or gum wrapper is on my floor. I constantly feel like I'm being watched by my stuffed animals and it makes me feel guilty when I draw or write or edit or color or watch anything. The only way to avoid the feeling is to hid under my blanket. I feel like if objects aren't in their spot, are slightly tilted in their position, or they're on the floor my rooms gonna get dirty and it's gonna get icky and they're gonna get mad and hurt me for me making their space messy or them being on the floor. I don't understand why but I'm so terrified that one of these days they're gonna kill me.

Weddings are expensive and $250 in 1990 would be a lot more in today's money. Everyone acting like he's crazy for wanting it to be less expensive makes me grumpy and it's hard to watch. Iāve made several posts on here but Im now aware I have an infection. After experiencing a lot of pain and swelling today, I did some jaw stretches and pus came pouring out. Thankfully I have a short round of antibiotics from a week ago that I didnāt use because I didnāt have an infection at the time and I was nursing. But I canāt get into see my surgeon for a few more days and Iām worried the infection is pretty bad because I thinks itās been infected for a week maybe longer and I just didnāt realize because I thought the pus was blood when I would taste it. He looked in my mouth yesterday and didnāt see it either but itās definitely there. Does anybody have any tips on what to do until I can get in? Iām taking clyndamycin and ibuprofen for now but i didnāt know if there was anything else I could do. Also if anyone has any reassurance from their infections š

Saw ants in my bathroom after the first treatment and I let the building management know. The exterminators came while I was away and I came him saw these traps in my kitchen and bathroom.
What traps are they and how long should I let them be there for before removing them or contact the management if I see more ants?
Also a few days after they were initially placed down, I saw a huge amount of ants near my bathtub some distance away from the trap, is that normal?

Hey all,
I'm planning an expedition to the Himalaya to climb Cholatse (6,400m) in OctobeNovember and am looking to figure out my layering system. I was hoping for some feedback (mainly, do I need a legit expedition down jacket, or will my Nuclei SV be okay?)
For the upper body, I'll layer:
- T-shirt
- R1 Techface (can thrown another baselayer under if necessary)
- Patagonia hybrid nano
- Arctery'x Proton
- MEC Gortex Shell
- Arteryx Cerium SV
- I have a Nuclei SV to throw on top of all of that. I'm thinking of bringing it, but worried it might not be enough and I might want a proper down jacket. Patagonia's Alploft jacket is on a really good sale right now and I'm wondering if I should upgrade. The Nuclei has served me well, but it is pretty bulky and I'm not sure how it would rate up to 6,500m.
For lower body, I have some MEC T2 midweight fleece underwear and the OR Cirque pants. Based on reading posts for Denali, I'll probably pick up a pair of puffy pants too.
For footwear I'm thinking G Summit, G2 Evo, or Phantom 6,000m to upgrade from my current setup of Cubes (pretty useless below -15c).
For hands I'm going to do a pretty standard light glove / heavy glove / heavy mitt combo. Any specific suggestions would be appreciated (I'm currently rocking the MEC T3 Mitt but they're just not cut out for the Himalaya).
