Yes yes I know that the post sounds like The Sun wrote it but bare with me.
I have this weird fear of flying - anxiety, panic attack, call it whatever you want which is not every flight - I flew to Japan from UAE and it was bumpy over Pakistan and China (and if you know anything about airspace over China is thatās annoying to deviate in general due to being a military controlled) and I was completely fine. For my wedding we went to Maldives and on our back home I had such a panic attack (mind you not because of newly wed) that for an hour or so I was clenching like crazy. I flew to Amsterdam and we had a turbulence for 3 hours and I was completely unfazed. What can lead to some flights me having a panic attack and being scared shitless and then next completely normal experience?
Now for a plot twist - I want to become a pilot. I have approximately 10 hours in a Cessna 172 in a right seat, just randomly paying for hours at my local flight school. Iāve never had an issue, I love taking off and landings, I love doing rounds around the coast of UAE where I live. My wife is a purser and we fly a lot and I am always concerned how Iāll react on flights - Iāve started seeing a psychologists to see what would be a deeper meaning of this - but in the meantime Iād like your personal experience. Am I too mentally weak in some situations? Is it partial anxiety that randomly starts? Is it because I didnāt sleep well that day - beats me
