2025.01.19 16:56 mission-vitality The Absurdity of Modern Job Interviews: A Comedy of Errors

Job interviews used to be simple—show up, shake hands, and answer a few questions. Fast forward, and they feel more like auditions for Corporate Gladiators, where the prize is a paycheck and the cost is your sanity.
You find a perfect job listing (finally!), only to discover it requires years of experience, fluency in dead languages, and the ability to juggle flaming torches. Oh, and it’s entry-level. But rent doesn’t pay itself, so you proceed.
You upload your tailored CV, only to be asked to retype every detail into glitchy online forms. By the time you’re asked “Why are you the perfect candidate?” you’re questioning your entire career. Spoiler: The ATS probably won’t even read it.
If your CV survives the ATS, it lands with a recruiter. Here, your font choice might get you eliminated. Worse, some companies ask for a video intro. Nothing screams "hire me" like recording, “Hi, I’m Alex, and I love spreadsheets,” while your cat knocks over a plant.
Congrats! You’ve made it to the STAR interrogation, answering questions like, “Tell me about a time you overcame a challenge.”
“Well, once a coworker ate my lunch.”
“And how did you handle it?”
“I bought another sandwich.”
Rejected. You’ve failed the “problem-solving” metric.
Next comes the “culture fit” test—deciding if you’re tolerable at happy hour. The questions are absurd: “If you were an animal, what would you be?” Say “lion,” and you’re aggressive. Say “sloth,” and you’re lazy. Pick “platypus,” and they think you’re weird. Just pick “dog” and hope for the best.
Your CV and portfolio prove your qualifications, but they’ll still ask you to complete unpaid “challenges.” Coders write 500 lines of code; designers create masterpieces. Feedback? Ghosted. It’s like auditioning for West End, but instead of Shakespeare, you’re solving riddles.
Picture this: five strangers, no smiles, and questions like, “How many golf balls fit in a double-decker bus?” Answer wrong, and you’re done. Right, and you’re still done, because they’re testing your “thinking style,” not your maths.
You survive. Surely the job is yours? Weeks pass. Then, the dreaded email: “We’ve decided to pursue other candidates.” Translation: The CEO’s nephew needed a job.
This mess exists to avoid “bad hires,” but it filters out the best candidates. Instead of focusing on potential, hiring is now an Olympic sport. Metrics win, humanity loses.
Modern interviews are a comedy of errors—if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. Maybe one day, the process will be more human. Until then, let’s toast to surviving this gladiator arena. And if anyone figures out how many golf balls fit in a double-decker bus, let us know.

2025.01.19 16:56 Throwaway-9726 Friend I met in support group is having what I think are ideas of reference, but they justify it by saying it is considered normal within their faith... Does content and insight matter at all in a situation like this?

TL;DR- They believe they are getting a message that told them they will inevitably kill themselves and I think it is delusional but they think it is true and automatically not delusional because of their religious beliefs. If I convince them to tell someone, will their psych not do anything because it is tied to their religious beliefs?
Whole Story:
I have mental health issues, and I attend a weekly peer support group for people with related issues. A friend I met there disclosed to me privately that they have been receiving direct messages from God.
I have encouraged them to share this with their therapist and psychiatrist because I feel like they are ideas of reference (they involve messages being left in Free Little Libraries in the person's neighborhood and I think a Biblical quote referenced by an AI search engine (?) and because the content is not fully aligned with their faith (I don't think it is anyways).
My friend has some insight though - at least they know that their Church leader and their mental health team would all think this is some level of psychosis returning for them. However, this isn't enough to cause them to not believe the "messages" because of the following reasons: - They believe people are just predisposed to believing anything slightly out of the ordinary is a mental health issue in the case of people like us who have been in the psych ward in the past and stuff - The messages have been too "direct" to be a coincidence (but I don't see how) - They keep saying that if something is accepted within that culture or community it isn't considered mental illness, and Catholics/Christians believe in direct messages or signs from God.
My concern is that the messages have basically said that they aren't a bad person (someone mistakenly accused them of something but no one actually believes it - it still bothers my friend though) but that they will inevitably take their own life and they will know when it is time because God will show them the sign (but they wouldn't tell me what the sign is). They said that for all they know they won't get the sign for another couple of years, or it could come next week. They also said they don't want to hurt themselves but they also get that they might need to make that "sacrifice".
So ya, this is psychosis right? Or because it does align with their personal religious beliefs their psych team would just dismiss it?
I am nervous about pushing them too much into telling someone because I feel like it could end up isolating them more (like if they are temporarily hospitalized) or it might even further cement the delusion if their psych doesn't do anything about it. Plus, I don't know if their psych can do something about it because they haven't been on their medication for awhile and won't take any. And, as far as I know, they have never attempted suicide because one of the reasons we initially connected is because we both got hospitalized from self-interrupted "attempts" so I don't even know if this is a legitimate worry or if people who self interrupt aren't likely to complete suicide.
Sorry this was so long!

2025.01.19 16:56 maanik_baadshah Looking for a Pen Tab with slim stylus for writing (Note-Taking with Onenote)

I currently use
Lenovo Active Pen 2 and
Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite with its s-pen
App: Onenote for Windows and Android
So far so good. Now I am looking to get a pen tab exclusively for note-taking because the laptop and tab are not mine and I need a less expensive alternative
What I have tried so far:

  1. XP-Pen Deco Mini 7 and
  2. VEIKK S640 V2
Reason for returning them both: Both the stylus were too fat/thick and uncomfortable to write with.
After extensive research, I have finalized the following tablets:
  1. XP-Pen G960S (Not the 'plus' variant which has fat stylus) priced around 4k INR
  2. XP-Pen Deco M (the one with PH10B X3 Elite smart chip stylus) priced around 5k INR
  3. Wacom CTL 672 K0-CX priced around 6k INR
I have not tried any of the above because there is no return policy in amazon anymore. Only service centre replacement. Earlier I had the option to return, so I had the opportunity try the deco mini 7 and veikk for a day before returning them.
Now, Please help me choosing the right pen tablet that has a slim stylus which will be used exclusively for note-taking purposes.
Note: I have seen in this sub, that G960S gets scratched in the middle which very much hinders with the writing process. On searching xp pen website, there seems to be no protective film for that particular model.
I don't know if the same issue persists with Deco M. Wacom is very old model but the only expectation out of it is note-taking.
Help me choose. Currently there are attractive offers going on. Thanks :)

Help me name a new friend? Just got this pal today and I can't decide on a name for them! My potential picks so far are Polaris or Oswald. Only reason I'm not 100% sure on Polaris is that's that name of one of my MLPs. Oswald, only because of the smile and I've been watching Oswald lately 🤭 I would love either wintery/icy/celestial or sweet food name suggestions! 🤗🩷🩵

2025.01.19 16:56 Worldly-Ad-3204 2016 Camry, Crank no start!

I have a 2016 Toyota Camry. I have been having this problem for 3 years and so far unable to fix. On cold days, well below freezing, the car will start and run for approximately 3-5 seconds. It then shuts off, doesn't stall simply shuts off like turning the key. Then it will crank but will not restart. I started by changing the fuel pump, but this did nothing to fix the problem. I cleaned the throttle body and changed the plugs, still no change. I recently checked multiple cylinders with an inline spark tester and did find when cranking I had no spark. I have good voltage on battery and also installed a new crank sensor and replaced the engine ground wire to frame. The car shows no codes and I am unsure where to check next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

2025.01.19 16:56 Embarrassed-Ad-4264 Check balance for all possible cryptos and wallets from Seed Phrase

Hi!
Last year I found an old (+5 years) crypto recovery phrase, and restored using Coin98 wallet, found I had some BTC there and nothing else. This year, doing some tests I entered that same seed phrase in my Atomic Wallet and discovered I had some ETH and other coins there !! seems Atomic uses non standard derivation paths for some coins.. The thing is : I don't recall which specific Wallet my seed recovery phrase belongs to, so If I created it using XXX Wallet seems there might still be some balance out there and I want to find it. Is it there a tool, API, script.. python library, whatever (other than download all possible wallet and trying on each of them the same seed phrase) to check if this seed phrase has balance in any coin in any wallet out there?? thanks :)

2025.01.19 16:56 nicchamilton Is it ever okay to ignore someone in a relationship? Especially when they don't know how you handle conflict?

If you bring up a concern and it legitimately hurts your partners feelings. Is it okay that your partner ignores you right after it happens when you ask if they'd like to talk about it or what's wrong? Im in the camp of letting your partner know "hey that hurt my feelings and I need some space" or "I don't want to talk right now". If your partner was verbally abusive or yelling then shutting down is the only way to combat that. That is when I believe ignoring someone is justified. Also I believe if the person being ignored doesn't know that you shutdown during conflict it can be very confusing.
Keep in mind this concern was not brought up by yelling, or just outright being rude or belittling but more so your partner took it in a rude way and rightfully so. It was a sensitive topic to them.
