2025.01.19 17:39 bearbarebere YSK that when people come to you with a problem, they may want to be heard, helped, or hugged, and figuring out which one is key to communicating with them
It's not like a formal science or anything, but when it comes to problems, there are often people who want to be helped, people who want to be hugged, and people who want to be heard.
You can even ask - "do you want to be helped, hugged, or heard right now?"
People who want to be helped are interested in solutions. They generally don't want your pity or your validation, they're often looking at the situation from a "what do I do" standpoint.
People who want to be heard aren't looking for solutions, and instead want to be listened to. Their general goal is to be validated, and look at the situation from a "isn't this horrible, oh my god" standpoint.
People who want to be hugged are often looking for physical touch or even just your presence. They may not even want to talk about the problem, just to be near someone who makes them feel safe.
Why YSK: If you try to solve the problem using a method that doesn't work for that person or that problem or their current emotional state, you'll risk making the problem worse. A hugger who had their parents just die isn't going to want to answer questions about their parents' wills, and instead will just want a hug or for gentle conversation around it or maybe even just might want to spend time with you taking their mind off of it. A helper who had their house catch on fire probably wants you to help them call up insurance companies, not sit around and talk about how hard the fire has been for them. A heard-er (strange name I know, but I'm sticking with it) who just had a breakup wants you to listen to them vent and say things like "wow, that's so horrible" and "oh my gosh that must be so hard" to validate them, not solve all their problems for them.
In particular, heard-ers and helpers often get into a lot of issues where the heard-er will say "can't you just LISTEN to me?! Do you not see how horrible this is?!" and the helper will say "I don't see what the big deal is. Why don't you just do X?" and after a long-standing pattern of this, the heard-er will feel invalidated for not feeling listened to and the heard-er will feel the same because the heard-er never takes their advice (because they're not looking for it) and resentment can form, with the helper often feeling exhausted by needing to listen and provide validation, and the heard-er feeling completely unsupported by not feeling understood.
As always, balance is key - some people are a mix and change depending on the time of day, what the problem is, how big the problem is, etc. It's important to not judge other people for their styles, either - heard-ers can often think of helpers as callous and uninterested, while helpers are taken aback at the accusation that they don't care - "clearly I care, I just presented solutions" - and can consider helpers as solely wallowing in self-pity. But in reality the world takes all types!

Excuse this newb question please. My brother and I started playing a few days ago and wonder how to transport our dinos to another island within the same map. We tried having our Dilos getting on top of the wood raft and they wouldn't, so we had to leave them by the coast while we traveled to explore the next island over.
Do we need to wait until we are higher level (we are level 70) to build a different kind of Raft? Or do we need a particular mount that helps with transport?

So yesterday i got two tickets for the bad bunny concerts that were originally sold for $80 at the presale and i got them for $500 each so i ended up paying $1004. After a couple of hours the seller email me directly the PDF including the two tickets that i add to my apple wallet, so.. my problem is that the seller has access to the tickets, he owns the same pdf as me i know that stubhub will return my money if they dont work BBUUTTT im on the mainland and im flying with my wife to PR thats $900 on plane tickets, plus hotel and food and stubhub is not going to reimburse that. So what im afraid of is.. going all the way to PR and be told that the tickets had been reddemed already and not being able to access the concert. As well the tickets have the original seller name on them and the tickets says that reselling them is illegal and that they can prohibit me from entering the concert but they will have to ask for id for everybody, what about if somebody gave them to me as a gift?
Should i spent this next 6 months worrying by thatv is my first time using stubhub i didnt know it was a third party i thought i was buying bad bunny tickets directly from them..
Any advise?

Hello all,
I have a unit built after 2018 that is currently being rented out. With the market rent dropping, there is a possibility that my unit might be more expensive than other units by maybe 100-150 per month. This is worst case scenario since it is hard to do 1:1 comparisons with my unit.
In the event that my tenants end up looking for a cheaper place, I am considering giving them a rent discount. However, I do not want to sign a new lease and leave it as month-to-month. In the event that I do choose to go down this route, I was thinking of two options:
(1) I am thinking of just giving a gift card for the difference at the end of the year or whenever they leave. (2) Sign a new month-to-month lease with the lower rent. However, I am not sure if this would count towards the rule that rent can only be increased once per 12 months. Does this rule apply to rent decreases?
Which option is better? Thanks for the advice.

6 months ago I had to leave a very toxic relationship- literally either got rid of or left behind anything I couldn't fit in the trunk of my car (since I was having it shipped a cross country and I wasn't allowed to have anything in the front or back seats of the car) Left the city that I had called home for 6 years- somewhere I thought I was going to live for the rest of my life.
I was in the deepest depression I've ever been in in my life- traumatized and lost. I lost almost everything. No direction, I had no idea what I was going to do.
I hopped around from living with my parents and with my sister for the summer and fall, and then my parents moved to a new area, and I went with them because I didn't know what else to do. I was a shell of a person, and, if I'm honest, I'm still crawling out.
Even through my depression, I was still able to keep a running journal of affirmations (I like to use livejournal) almost daily. As well as repeat them in my head. My go to's being:
- Everything is always working out for me
- AMAZING opportunities are always coming to me
- My World is Always Taking Care of Me
- Everything is Getting Better and Better Every Day in Every Way
I did some SATs, but not consistently, mostly just the affirmations.
I had a seasonal job from August to November, but after that job ended I hadn't been able to find a job since.
I finally had some movement on January 6th- I had an inspired action to search a specific city nearby and the specific work that I have experience in. The first thing that popped up was an organization that totally aligned with my values. I clicked on job opportunities- the only job available was one that could have been tailored specifically for me- I was qualified for it in every way.
I quickly applied for the job, heard back a few days later, had 2 interviews and was offered the job on Friday!
I just found a really delightful person that I align perfectly with to live with (working on buying a house next hah!) and am about to move in next week, and start my job on the 27th. I don't know anyone else in the city, so my new roommate is going to introduce me to all of her friends.
I'm moving to a cool city that has a ton to do, and is right near the ocean. I've always wanted to live near the ocean.
I'm still crawling out of my depression, but I think when I settle into my new life I will feel better and better!
PERSISTENCE and Dropping Importance is what got me to where I am today.
I've been waiting for the day to share my story, and today is that day!!
