2025.01.19 17:41 AlfonsodeAlbuquerque Origins of long working hours in the financial services industry?
I had always assumed that the long hours put in by professionals in investment banking, private equity, and similar fields was a product of twentieth century New York, especially for junior employees. However, I was reading Goldthwaithe's "The Economy of Renaissance Florence" again and noticed commentary about junior bankers in the late 13th and early 14th centuries also being expected to work extreme schedules; "in 1446 Lorenzo di Matteo Strozzi, then fourteen and working in Valencia, wrote to his mother in Florence that he only got three hours of sleep at night ... Giovanni di Francesco Morelli, newly arrived on the job at Lisbon in 1509, wrote home about how 'one spends all day and half the night writing in the writing room, so much work is required".
Is this just an accidental historic analogue? A misrepresentation of a wider body of source documents? Or can working culture in the financial services industry be traced with precedent further back into the history of banking than some today might expect?

In a fit of rage and frustration, I fed ChatGPT the current table, our piss poor run of form, our abhorrent injury list, and the remaining fixures. Here's the response:
"Given Tottenham’s recent poor form of only 2 wins in the last 10 matches, their relegation risk increases significantly. Here's the updated analysis:

2025.01.19 17:41 Nervous-Log8152 Am I wrong to feel hurt?
Last night I was feeding our daughter in our bedroom, while my husband was gaming with his friend. His friend got really happy and was talking about playing one of mine favorite games with him, and my husband excitedly agreed to play with him even though I ask to play it with him all the time and he always says no to play together, and that he doesn’t like the game. We only played it once together months ago when he got the game for me. Am I wrong to feel hurt? He never wants to play any games with me anymore, and when I brought it up he got super annoyed and said “I didn’t get you a gaming computer, so we can game together.” Most of the time his friends aren’t ever on, and I’m available and he still won’t play with me.

2025.01.19 17:41 Yuri_Gor Othala - light from the past
The light of your life was given to you by your parents to keep and share with your children. In Runic Alchemy we learn how to create and grow the seed of Crystal, even if everybody already has it. This is what we already do to live, so we need to learn from ourselves. Othala rune name means own land, heritage, inherited estate. The idea of home was invented by life eons before any sign of humanity on the scene: hole, cave, nest, hive. However, the principal evolution in the idea of a home made by humans is bringing artificial fire inside, the source of warmth and light. Another significant step forward was extending the home to a tamed and ordered part of an initially wild environment, having your water source, and growing your food instead of hunting it outside. To make our artificial, tamed segment of reality work, we have to invent and implement certain rules and keep following these rules to maintain order within our home space, to keep it alive. Keeping fire inside, not letting it go out, but not letting the house catch the fire - this is probably the brightest symbol of the idea of home. At the same time, the light and warmth of the hearth, oil lamp, or candle was bringing all the family together. Protecting this light, passing it from ancestors to descendants, preserving and teaching rules in the form of traditions - this is a key part of making a home last for generations and preventing premature death of its inhabitants. And this is how life itself, being preserved and passed from parents to children across the unimaginably long chain of ancestors, and hopefully projected far into the future, is sitting in the very core of the idea of home. According to Norse creation myth, this light of life was breathed into our first ancestors, trees Ask and Embla, by the same three brother gods, who created our world, the Midgard. "Allfather" is one of Odin's names. Some scholars dispute if it really is and does this paternal role extends to absolutely everything in the world, but for humankind, he is explicitly described as a creator. So with the help of the Othala rune, following back along the chain of our ancestors, passing the light from hands to hands, we can connect to our very divine source, to the light shining for us from the past and lighting the way to the future. From the Runic Alchemy perspective, the Othala rune spans across four top levels: Water, Air, Emptiness, and Earth. It shares its diagonal bars with almost all runes we already know, except Isa which has no diagonals, and yet more runes that wait for us ahead. It makes this rune so multifaceted and gives it an integrative role. The chapter about Othala rune was added, check it for instructions how to do Othala and share your comments if it works for you. submitted by Yuri_Gor to RunicAlchemy [link] [comments] |

2025.01.19 17:41 Budget_Public3629 Former Game Hacker looking for a group of friendly enthusiasts who want to make a game!
Apologies for the title but thought it would be funny to share the irony in my background as I now wish to make a game. I used to be a cheat vendor for 2.5 years reversing games/engines and their mechanics, therefore I'd say I'm not completely new to game development even though I have not made a single game in my life.
But I'm eager to learn nonetheless and have quite the baggage of ideas of games I'd like to make, would love to have a set of people to pitch ideas with and even collaborate on games.
If you are an enthusiast please reach out to me in DM!

2025.01.19 17:41 hellsrt New Sr15, 16" failures
Took the new SR15 (and my BCM and DD, all 16") to the range.
SR15 is straight out of box, lubed up, unsupressed.
Soooooo, It chambered and fired fine but wouldn't lock back on last round with frequent double feeds. Also, not picking rounds up about every other shot.
Turned into a single shot.
Used 62 and 55 grain. 55 gr. a bit better but not much.
The BCM and DD worked flawless so it's not ammo or mags.
Are Knights known for being finicky unsupressed?
I would hate to think something out of spec in regards to the gas system but certainly possible.
gonna switch out some buffers and do a full clean and inspection.
