Hi Reddit,
Iām a 27-year-old guy, and Iāve been getting to know a 24-year-old girl I matched with on a dating app about a month and a half ago. Sheās still in college and lives in a hostel about 8 km away from where I live. Weāve both talked about wanting a long-term relationship and turning it into something meaningful, but weāre not officially in a relationship yet.
For some context, I havenāt dated in the last 7 years, so Iām a bit out of touch with how things work these days. Over the past month, weāve met 4 times and have been in constant touch through calls. Sheās not much into texting, so we mostly connect over the phone.
Since she doesnāt have her own mode of transportation, I always pick her up and drop her off at her hostel whenever we meet. Her hostel is on the outskirts of the city, so we need to travel back into the city for food or to hang out.
In these 4 dates, Iāve spent around ā¹3,000 on food and outings. She hasnāt offered to split the bill or asked if she could contribute. I hesitated to bring it up because sheās not working yet, but at the same time, it feels one-sided.
What confuses me is that she often goes out with her friends for food or coffee, so she does have some budget for outings. She also sends me Instagram reels that hint at men providing gifts, surprises, etc. I havenāt given her any gifts so far, but Iām starting to feel like she might have certain expectations.
I genuinely like spending time with her and enjoy our connection, but Iām not sure if Iām overthinking this or if I should be concerned. I also donāt want to strain myself financially or set an expectation that Iāll always cover all expenses.
Is this normal when youāre just getting to know someone? How should I bring this up without sounding rude or awkward? Or is it a red flag, and should I step back before things go further?
TLDR: Iām M27 and getting to know a 24-year-old college student. Iāve spent ā¹3,000 over 4 dates as she hasnāt offered to split or contribute. She often goes out with friends, so affordability doesnāt seem like an issue. She also shares reels hinting men should give gifts. Should I address this, or is it a red flag?

Iām a huge fan of rainbows. Iāve just started a heavily planted 60 cube (24ā/60cm). I had originally wanted Boesmanis, but I think theyād need a longer lengthwise tank.
Iām looking at Kali Tawa rainbows and dwarf neon rainbows now. Does anyone have suggestions for rainbows that have a pretty multicolored sheen thatāll do well in a 24ā tank? I donāt really want threadfins or red blue eyed neon rainbows - the tank has tetras already, and I want them to stand out.
