2025.01.20 05:20 acrazydutch Help with a NAS enclosure or case that supports SAS3 drives
 | I'm hoping to build a NAS using parts that I found at my local University Surplus store. I've grabbed 4 - 8TB Seagate Enterprise 3.5 inch SAS drives and an HP Prodesk 600 G4 SFF with an Intel i5-8500 and 16 GB of RAM. I've been searching for either a case that I can drop in the HP Prodesk mobo along with the drives and connect them to a SAS controller (low profile) PCIe card. Or I'd be fine with putting the same SAS controller PCIe card in the HP Prodesk case and then getting some sort of enclosure for my SAS drives. Then I would connect the enclosure to the Prodesk. I've searched around a lot and can only seem to find enclosures or cases that connect to the SAS connector on the drives but the port that would connect between the enclosure and the Prodesk are always SATA connectors. I'd like to take full advantage of the SAS3 12 Gbps speeds if possible and not throttle it using SATA but it seems like there's nothing out there with a SAS backplane that has a SAS Mini port that I could use to connect to the SAS controller PCIe card. Maybe I'm missing something here but does anyone have any ideas on either cases or enclosures that would make this possible? If I have to throttle it down to SATA I will but hopefully there's some options available that maybe someone else is more familiar with. My (36M) wife (37F) is asking me to get a life insurance policy and I have a few questions since I’ve never gone through the process before.
For starters, I use weed to keep my stress levels down. It’s not an everyday thing, but probably three or four times a week. I’m trying to quit - one week sober! - but she wants to get this going NOW.
I know I can’t lie on the application as that constitutes fraud, but my questions are:
- Will I get denied for marijuana use, or will the premium just be higher? Im not a drinker, im at a healthy BMI, no underlying health conditions and I’ve never had any major health scares.
- This would be through my wife’s employer’s insurance plan. (Voya Employee Benefits) She knows I’ve used it in the past but idk if she knows I use it on a weekly basis. If I get flagged for marijuana use, will she be able to see those results or will it note it somewhere on the policy?
