Hi everyone, so I’ve had middle ear myoclonus and tinnitus since July 2023. They believe mine is caused by my TMJ and the muscle tightness it has caused in my jaw, neck, shoulders and back. I have an open bite and bilateral disc displacement, so they think the malocclusion of my bite is causing tension. I’ve worn a splint for almost 9 months and they want me to start Invisalign treatment tomorrow. I’m so anxious that the Invisalign is going to worsen my MEM and hissing tinnitus. Do any of you have experience with orthodontic treatment and MEM/tinnitus? Did Invisalign make anyone’s TMJ worse?

I have been editing novels for about fifteen years as a developmental editor. I noticed that January always seems to bring a lot of questions about self-editing, so I thought I'd share the tips I give to the writers I work with about editing their work.
Below, is a list of questions.
They reflect the core of the questions I use when carrying out a development edit on a novel. It is not a comprehensive list but I think it's enough for you to pick up on the main problems.
The best way to use the questions is to apply them to one chapter at a time. It means you might have to give each chapter a few 'passes'. It is worth noting that not every question will always be relevant to a book's chapter. It's OK to ask the question and decide it's not fitting for the current chapter. This is not an excuse to ignore hard problems.
I'll not lie, implementation is not easy. It takes practice, so don't get disillusioned if it feels overwhelming.
Chapter Purpose and Goals
- Main Theme or Message
- What overarching idea, emotion, or moral does the chapter convey (e.g., love, betrayal, freedom)?
- In what ways does the chapter’s content reflect or reinforce this primary theme?
- Development of the Theme
- Which literary devices or narrative techniques (e.g., symbolism, foreshadowing, dialogue) do you use to emphasize this theme?
- How do specific scenes or character actions highlight the central message?
- Introduction
- Does the chapter’s opening grab the reader’s attention?
- Is there a clear, immediate sense of setting, character, or conflict?
- Are you providing sufficient description for the reader to 'ground' themselves in the scene?
- Body
- Do the events or arguments unfold in a logical, coherent sequence?
- Does each paragraph or section transition smoothly into the next?
- Conclusion
- Does the chapter end with a sense of resolution, a cliffhanger, or a clear lead-in to the next chapter?
- Is the reader given enough reason to continue reading?
- Introduction of Characters
- How are new characters presented? Is their description vivid and memorable?
- Do the introductions clearly establish each character’s purpose or relevance?
- Character Arcs
- In what ways, if any, do existing characters grow or change during this chapter?
- Are their actions and decisions consistent with their established traits and motivations?
- Do any new motivations or conflicts emerge that deepen their personalities?
- Dialogue
- Does each character have a distinct voice that matches their personality and background?
- Does the dialogue move the plot forward or reveal important character information?
- Is the dialogue concise and authentic, avoiding unnecessary filler or exposition dumps?
- Descriptions
- Are descriptions of the environment vivid and sensory, helping the reader visualize the scene?
- Do these descriptions serve the story’s mood, tone, or themes without overshadowing character and plot?
- Context
- How does the setting influence the events of the chapter?
- Are there unique cultural or historical details that enhance the narrative or shape character behavior?
- Pacing
- Does the chapter maintain a pace appropriate to its content (action scenes vs. reflective moments)?
- Are there clear rises and falls in tension to keep the reader engaged without overwhelming them?
- Tension
- How is suspense created or maintained—through conflict, secrets, or unanswered questions?
- Does the chapter resolve any tension or introduce new sources
- Identification
- Which common tropes (e.g., the chosen one, star-crossed lovers, the mentor figure) appear in this chapter?
- Are these tropes used deliberately to meet reader expectations or to play with conventions?
- Subversion
- Do you employ any of these tropes in an unexpected way?
- How can you refine or twist these tropes to add novelty and depth?
- Identification
- Are there any overused phrases, plot devices, or character types present?
- Do certain descriptions or conflicts feel too familiar or predictable?
- Evaluation
- Do these clichés detract from the originality or impact of the chapter?
- Can you replace or revise them to maintain a fresh, engaging narrative?
- Core Motivations
- What does each major character want most at this stage of the story?
- Are these motivations clearly communicated through their actions, dialogue, or internal monologue?
- Reflections in the Chapter
- How do the events of this chapter challenge or reinforce the characters’ goals and desires?
- Is there a clear link between the characters’ personal stakes and the chapter’s central conflict?
- Growth and Consequences
- Does the chapter show any evolution in what drives the characters (e.g., shifting priorities or revelations)?
- How do the characters’ motivations shape their decisions and the chapter’s outcome?

I ordered a lattafa asad from Amazon, probably my first mistake, it arrived damaged and the bottle leaked every where. i really wanted to like this fragrance but my first impression of it was over powering. the packaging was damp from how much cologne was spilled during transit. amazon wont offer any help or support. I wrote a review, not slandering the seller at all, but more so the quality control and lack of accountability and amazon took down my review and asked me to resubmit a review about the product. i couldnt get a refund or replacement. how could i possibly send them back a leaking bottle?
it was my first couple of time ordering frags online and i feel like this was a major set back as ill now worry every time i place an order.

I'm looking to identify nuance limitations of Entra ID Identiy Protection/ any Adaptive Authentication features of Entra you have come across or know about. E.g., no way to combine a hardware key (FIDO2, YubiKeys) with a knowledge factor because its hardcoded as a passwordless option. What other types of limitations exist?? Would love hear about anything you guys have come across? It would really help me and my client, a large organization. Also, if anyone has worked with a similar PING solution. Are there any advantages to it vs. Entra ID for this situation??

2025.01.20 13:51 NaysayerSaysNay What would be the best way/time to communicate CSA and low sexdrive as a male?
43 m, out of an 11 year relationship and not dating yet, not nearly ready, but wondering how to best confront this next time around and wanted to see if anyone here had any ideas.
Short of it is that some unpleasant stuff happened in childhood and while I don't think i carry too much baggage about it, it has made me less interested in sex than my peers and has created issues in my relationships. While i try to regularly touch, tell them how beautiful i find them, openly communicate, offer one-sided pleasure, tried medication, etc, I think it brings the worst of their insecurities when im perfectly content/secure in sexual activity every couple months, especially when the expectation is for men to be the opposite.
I previously tried to be subtle about this, hinted at demi-sexuality, looked for secure women, but I wouldn't say I was successful. The initial phases of dating are easy, i think women appreciate someone who genuinely wants to get to know them, but down-the-line when things are harder I find it creates difficulties. Like a weight that's easier to carry before a relationship requires serious work, but after the inevitable incline post year 2-3 is an extra weight that becomes harder for others to bear.
I'd prefer to be direct, but it's a bit heavy to dump this front and center on a dating profile or on a first date. I don't think it defines me, just a pickle in a ltr with me, and profile space or time is short. I don't mean to make it sound like this is my only issue, I wish it were. I have plenty others in various stages of development, but feel this is the big one in finding something lasting. I live in a major urban area, and get dozens of likes quickly when on dating sites, so perhaps putting it front and center may be advisable? After all, i dont need dozens of likes, just one good one.
Before the seek professional assistance recommends start, I wish it were that easy. I have years of therapy under the belt and while im strongly considering someone geared specifically for adult CSA survivors, i dont expect that to change the core of what i am. I know what happened wasn't my fault, but it's hard not to feel a bit too damaged for relationships outside of short and fleeting. I could likely be content alone, but I'm not quite yet done with hope. Or maybe it's not quite yet done with me? I don't know.
Anyhoo, anyone else dealt with this or have any suggestions? Appreciate any thoughts and your time spent reading.

All over the world we have religions that speak about the tribe that wrote them. Each one claims to be truth and that god chose THEM as the special people. It says that THEIR teachings are the right ones and everyone else is wrong or evil.
And yet none of them can offer proof. Oh sure, we get lots of mental gymnastics about how many copies of this story were published and how many people believed that story and oh there is this city that matches descriptions.
But all of that is a STORY. Like Hogwarts being written to take place in England because the author was English or how the avengers always seem to save Manhattan and thus the world from American Hollywood or how Bollywood heros save Delhi....
It is ALL.. FICTION.
Written by the people who inhabit that small geographic area of the world.
And THAT is the only logical explaination for why an ALL... Loving God, (ALL is the keyword), would only love a single small tribe first.
If god existed, if it were really all loving, it would have appeared the same to everyone. It would have given the same rules to everyone. It wouldn't have chosen one favorite child and told that child to slaughter everyone else who didn't think the same way or had different briefs.
God does not exist.

In my first year, semester one got over in December, and I got an internship in the Trade Finance department of a global bank. Most of it is grunt work. Today, I almost finished my tasks and was checking my phone for a minute. During that time, my boss came in. He had received a call from another head, who works in a different office but is part of our department.
This other person didn’t have my number but could have directly pinged me on the company’s chat system. Instead, they informed my boss about a mistake in one of my previous transactions. My boss, I think, assumes that since I’m Gen Z, I’m always on my phone and idle most of the time. This might have been true atbtomes earlier when I was observing my coworker, practicing occasionally, and didn’t yet have access to my PC last week.
When I talked to the other person, I clarified that the transaction in question was from almost a week ago, back when I was still a complete newbie and practicing. Despite that, my boss, in a commanding tone, told me to concentrate on my work and use my phone less.
For some reason, I didn’t feel bad, even though he’s our Senior VP. I knew I had worked diligently today, and I think I’m doing pretty well for a new joiner. The workload tends to increase during month-end, so that might have contributed to his frustration.
To be honest, I interned at a startup last year after my 12th board exams, and the environment there was far more toxic. I didn’t even get a stipend. So, this doesn’t feel as bad. Still, my boss held me back for 15–20 minutes after my log-off time, probably because the IT team hasn’t provided access to certain software yet. He asked me to email them again. Maybe he also kept me back because he saw me on my phone today😭.
Anyway, I don’t know why, but I still feel kind of satisfied. It’s a global bank, and this experience will look good on my CV, even though the work is all back-end. The pay is also decent considering the work and the fact that I’m a fresher.
