2025.01.20 16:49 toomanysynths is there an app that puts firework noise on a map in Los Angeles? how do I find the least exploding neighborhood? (I have a dog)
the fireworks in Echo Park scare the crap out of my dog. right now the only guidelines I can think of are look for lots of white people or look for lots of trees. "look for lots of white people" sounds like an extremely racist housing guideline, and if the neighborhood's truly got a lot of trees, like Elysian Park or Runyon Canyon, it's also more likely to have coyotes. coyotes see my dog as a snack, and weirdly, I know from experience that coyotes are one of the only things in the universe that my dog is not afraid of. so they might try to eat him, and he would certainly try to either play with them or fight them.
anyway, also, with devastating fires raging in the hills and ruining lives left and right, I'm skittish about any of the really heavily forested neighborhoods for that reason also. TLDR neither of my guidelines are ideal, so: what's a better way to identify low-explosion neighborhoods?

So, I have my own bank account and my own job but I unfortunately still live with my parents. They are very controlling and check my bank statements regularly.
I have applied for a lottery subscription and the lottery company sent a letter confirming my subscription to my house which my parents opened and read without my permission.
They are now freaking out because they think I am getting scammed as the lottery said that it will charge a monthly subscription (which is to be expected and which I signed up for with my own money). I have tried explaining this to them but they refuse to listen.
They are demanding that I go to the bank with them to complain about fraud and to demand the money back which I already paid. What am I supposed to do if they refuse to accept that I am not being scammed?
Also, what am I supposed to do if they refuse to accept that I can simply cancel the subscription online via my lottery account and demand that I embarrassingly go to the bank with them to get the bank staff to phone the lottery company to cancel it because they won't accept that you can cancel your own account?

 | Introduction We've had a lot of different types of Heroes added to the game over the years. We've got the obvious ones like main lords, common playable characters, and major villains. We've seen more minor bosses, allied NPCs with roles both large and small, and even characters that only exist in a setting's lore be added, some without even initially being an option in CYL voting. Yet of all the eligible characters, one group has had absolutely no representation in FEH in its near 9 years since launch; the second generation substitute characters from Genealogy of the Holy War. Now, in a way it's understandable why they haven't been a priority. FE4 typically only gets one New Heroes banner a year, with them alternating between Gen 1 and Gen 2 at that, so IS likely wouldn't choose any of the substitutes over more well-known and well-liked Gen 2 characters first. With that being said, as time goes on, and more and more alt types are added to New Heroes banners, it feels like the chances of any of the substitutes getting into the game at all are growing smaller. Not unless we do something about it. I understand that everybody has their priorities this CYL, and that voting for who you want to win is important. I'm not asking you to spend all seven of your votes on the substitute characters (unless you have nobody better to pick, like me). I'm just asking that, if you have a vote to spare, please, give one to a substitute, show IS that despite their obscurity and lack of relevance, we do want to see these characters in the game. I'm advocating for Jeanne specifically, as outlined below, but any will do. I've played the 3DS games to completion, done a couple of routes of Three Houses, played most of Engage, and finished one run of Eirika's route of Sacred Stones. I'm aware of the older titles, but outside of briefly playing the eShop ports of the games that were officially translated or the first chapters of some of the ones that weren't, I haven't played them. I'm more familiar with the Oosawa manga adaptation of FE4 than the game it's based on. But one thing I do like to do, as weird as this may sound, is read things about the games I haven't played online, typically their pages on TV Tropes. Through this I've learned random tidbits about the games I haven't played that intrigue me, and it's even lead me to liking characters whose stories I've not experienced myself, sometimes through character design, other times due to what's been written about them. Of the characters in FEH that make up my main team (my user flairs, if they're visible), only one is from a game I've played to completion. Hell, Priscilla is a character I like enough that my profile pic is art of her I commissioned, and I stopped playing FE7 the chapter after I recruited her! All this is a very long-winded way of me saying that Jeanne is a character I like despite never having played FE4 beyond the prologue. The substitute characters intrigue me in general, seeing all their backstories and the way the game will justify them being there if the character they're replacing is interesting, even if it does raise the question of where they are if the main Gen 2 characters do exist. I particularly liked Jeanne's connection to the Nordion family, being the daughter of Eve, one of the Cross Knights sent to protect Lachesis and later defend Nordion. Like her counterpart Nanna, she is raised by Finn alongside Leif, which makes me wonder what happens to her if Nanna is alive. It's little, but that sort of thing can draw me to a character. I'm also generally a fan of troubadours, and seeing as Jeanne is the only one not yet in FEH (unless I'm mistaken) means I'm particularly invested in getting her in. As I mentioned before I'm a big fan of Nanna, which you wouldn't think would mean I'd like her substitute, but hey, taste is weird. I also kinda just like her design. Like, yeah, I know it's a little basic compared to some others, but I think that helps highlight the more "unremarkable" nature of the substitutes. They're not descendants of the Twelve Crusaders, they're just ordinary people. Even then, I think the white and pink of her outfit is quite pleasant, and contrasts nicely with her brown hair and eyes. The original art may be a bit plain, but I've seen fanart that makes the colours pop a lot more, and it works really nicely. Speaking of which... art by u/eili_enie This is a piece I commissioned a few months ago from u/eili_enie (her stuff is great btw). She really made the pinks pop, and added a bit of vibrancy to her design the original art lacked. I have no doubt that official art of her in FEH could do the same. With the exception of the first one or two years, I've made sure to give Jeanne at least one of my votes. She's not done particularly well, so this year I've decided to go all in. Most of the other characters I wanted to be added have since joined us, I'm not hugely fussed over who wins overall (I'm sure they'll do fine without me), and while I do occasionally give my favourites a vote or two, this year I feel like I should focus on Jeanne. I mean, I commissioned art of her, and I'm making this post. Might as well give her all my votes, too. I even changed my summoner's message for this week. before after This is how much I care this year for getting people to Reasons for you to vote for a substitute As I mentioned earlier, voting for any substitute gives them a better chance of getting into the game. I feel like enough of the popular FE4 Gen 2 characters are in the game now that it wouldn't hurt to put some substitutes in if there was demand for it, we just need to show IS that there is, and now might be a better time than any before. The most recent New Heroes banner was a Genealogy one, and one focused on Gen 1 at that. Given that we only seem to get FE4 banners once a year and they alternate between generations each time, that means that by the time the next one comes around, IS will have had time to take our votes into account, and the fact that next FE4 banner will be a Gen 2 one means that there's a chance for it to be a substitute themed one. Hell, not even that, just having one or two substitutes alongside main Gen 2 characters would be enough. If we do get substitutes in FEH, then it'll be interesting to see how they're handled. While they're mostly considered inferior as units to their counterparts, some of them can potentially fill certain niches that the other couldn't. Focusing on Jeanne as an example, her magic stat is overall better than Nanna's (if the wiki hasn't lied to me), making her main utility be a staff user, so as a unit in FEH they could have her focus more on healing and buffing allies rather than dealing damage. It'd also be interesting to see how the characters are handled in Forging Bonds, whether they'll interact with their counterparts, or whether set characters in FE4 like Seliph or Leif will comment on the substitutes. We could learn what they were doing if their counterparts exist, or what changes in circumstances may have led them to potentially not joining the Liberation Army. There's certainly room for creativity here. Reasons to vote for Jeanne in particular Aside from my personal bias, I feel like Jeanne's inclusion in FEH, from a writing perspective, could be particularly interesting because of who she's a substitute of: Nanna. While not having any larger a role in Genealogy than any of the other kids, in Thracia Nanna is one of the more important characters. She grew up alongside Leif, her kidnapping is part of what kickstarts the game's whole plot, she even marries Leif by the end. She is considered a main character of the game by IS. So I feel like a substitute of her in particular could be interesting to explore. Jeanne was planned to appear in FE5 as well, there's an unused portrait sprite of her in the game files, so it'd also be interesting if that got addressed. Jeanne's unused FE5 portrait Admittedly, Jeanne hasn't exactly had a... good history with CYL. She's been quite near the bottom most years, with CYL3 having her as the least voted female character (ironically also the year she had her highest number of votes at 63). But still, that's not to say she has no chance. There are lots of characters who have ranked quite low in CYL who have still been added to FEH. Conclusion So hopefully my reasoning for why I'm voting for Jeanne and think others should do the same (or at least vote for a substitute) was clear and understandable, and that this didn't come across as me rambling incoherently about some blorbo you've never heard of. This is the first time I've done one of these CYL propaganda posts (and judging by how long it took me, also the last), so I hope I did alright. I know that her chances of getting into FEH are slim. I don't expect her to do particularly well. But maybe if everyone who sees this post gives just one vote to her, maybe she'll do better than she has done before. Maybe that'll be enough.
